No. I will say that the top big-school private in TN will generally beat everyone in KY, with the exception of if one of KY’s big-school blue bloods (T, X, Male, BG, Boyle, etc.) is having a banner year. The depth of high quality big-school teams in TN is exceptionally deeper than it is in KY. I would say that there are, between the big school privates and publics, 10 or so teams in TN that would have a legit shot at beating any KY team this year. Flip that statement and I would say only X from KY would have a legit shot at beating any TN team this year. That’s not a knock on the talent or coaching or prioritization of football by KY… it’s really just a population thing.

Father Ryan is 2-5 with losses to: MBA - Would beat EVERYONE in KY East Nashville - Currently the #2 big school public school in Football rich TN BG, PJPII, and Knox Catholic, all top 10 in their classes and states. Anyone remember what South did to Highlands THIS YEAR? Now we’re billing Highlands as a potential measuring stick of Cov. Cath. I get the Devils Advocate angle but I think we all remember Woodford Co.’s vaunted offense against their first real test of South last year.

I don't think they are the best team in SCKY, but are they the best physically looking team getting off the bus... yeah, I stand by that.

Coach Griffith has a beast of a team this year. Physically getting off the bus, they may be the most impressive looking team in South Central KY.

This is gonna sound snippy but I would put Douglas, Cov Cath, South, and BG all as 14 to 21 point favorites over Woodford and Southwestern.

I have to respectfully disagree about a shift in the talent. Aside from the Woodard kid, Logan is winning with Logan kids who have been in the Logan system all their lives. Logan has always had a couple of kids that we all stopped and said, “Man, they should be better than they are with those kids…” The difference now is that they are maximizing what they have. The only significant Logan kid (aside from last year when Baptiste and Woodard did their 5th year at RHS) I can think of that went to RHS was the Dickerson kid.

Logan has been thriving for awhile now under Coach Adler. You keep waiting for them to drop off… they keep getting better.

I'll keep saying it... if you have seen Warren East up close you know they have some really good looking bodies and they can run. Their QB is exceptional. When East is up, they become formidable.

Warren East is a sleeper. Be on the lookout for them.

A couple of things... 1. Anyone who knows anything about St. X knows that no money decisions "just get made" without the higher-up's knowing. 2. St. X has a responsibility to do what is best for the students at St. X. If that means using another dealer that provides their student-athletes with better opportunities in terms of apparel and equipment, then that is what they're supposed to do. 3. In this day and age, any school that is not forcing the vendors to compete for their business by routinely bidding out their needs is doing a financial disservice to the school.

When I see "High School students should be free.." I see a statement that is true but is the product of far greater issues. As KY continues to fail to keep state funding relative to inflation and demands of schools, school districts continue to feel the crunch and every dime becomes critical. The first places that this hits are the peripheral aspects of schools such as early childhood education, transportation, and extracurriculars. As a result, school districts tell schools that when it comes to sports, the schools can expect little to no help on the funding. In other words, "Pay for it yourselves." Hence, almost every HS in KY has athletic budgets that are 75% driven by the football and basketball gates. Compound this with less adults coming to games for many reasons already listed and you have a critical need for every spectator's dollar. That means if you have to give up a crowd of 300 students who haven't paid for a crowd of 150 students who HAVE paid in order to make sure that 65 players playing are able to be safe in good equipment and that the mower that keeps the grass cut gets repaired, then so be it. That is why schools charge students. It ain't to make a buck. It's to survive.

Running the ball does not work well against the Purples. Never has. Other than Warren Central in 2010 and Indianapolis Warren Central last year, I cannot think of a primarily-run team that has beat the Purples. South Oldham doesn't have the players either of those Warren Central teams had. BG - 42 SO - 14

Without Ezell, Madisonville could realistically running clock Logan. Even a hobbled Ezell keeps it close, kid is a warrior and it would be awful if this run for Logan with him running the point comes to an end without him on the field. I do feel like this is the best 1st round playoff game in KY.

Russellville, a 1A school with 135 boys in the whole school, opened their season against the following teams: 4A Warren East (4-5) 3A Glasgow (8-1) 2A Butler Co (1-8) - This is the bad loss for RHS 4A Logan Co. (8-1) 4A Franklin Simpson (5-4) That's a deceiving 5-4 2A Somerset (8-1) That's an absolute killer of a first 6 games. I would not be surprised at all to see the Panthers in the Regional Finals. This RHS team is almost all Sophomores and Juniors too. This may not be the year to take on the big boys, but I would say that the Panthers will be a tough out in the playoffs in the first two rounds. That said, this is also a RHS team that no win is guaranteed and they will need to play well to get out of the first round.

I would say that the East game may be tighter than you may expect.

Well...they played a 4A team from BG. Which has not worked out well for the Panthers in the past... The last three times RHS has played Warren East: 2019: Lost 48-0 Now get to play what looks like the best Glasgow team in awhile. 2010: Lost 49-24 to a 2-9 WEHS team Ended up going 9-4 and lost 14-17 in the Regional Championship to Tilghman 2009: Lost 42-16 to a 1-9 WEHS team Ended up going 8-5 and lost 14-21 in the Regional Championship to Tilghman People forget how small Russellville is. The Panthers play: East (4A) Franklin Simpson (4A State Champs) Glasgow (3A Ranked team) Logan Co. (4A winner of 20 games the last two years) Warren Central (4A and winnable) Somerset (2A state ranked team) I think the Panthers actually have a decent 1A team if they can survive the non-district schedule!

A good hire in the sense that Central got someone with a lot of coaching experience. As for the outgoing coach, Coach Taylor, I do feel that it needs to be said that he inherited as bad a situation as there is in KY and did what I consider to be an admirable job. His teams did not lack discipline. They played hard, he kept numbers respectable despite what many would think to be all the reasons in the world to quit, and began to restock the talent pools to a degree. He knew what he was taking on and never once complained in the media that I saw. He lobbied for his kids and I don't think I ever heard of them just laying down in the three years he was there. Good luck to Coach Fowler, but I thought it just needed to be said that Coach Taylor did a good deal more than his record showed.

Greenwood opened in 1990 and split Central, who at that time was one of the biggest schools in KY. Central held on till 1993 and then faded considerably until 2001 when they turned the corner and then took off again as a dominant force in KY from 2002 till 2012. That said, it took them about 8 years (1993-2001) to recover from the Greenwood hit. South Warren came along and split the school again in 2010. Central again held on for about three more years as a serious contender but then faded considerably. It's been about 6 years since they last were holding on (2012). I will say this...their kids have begun looking more like Warren Central kids in recent years. With the right coach, I would consider the job to be a sleeping giant on the verge of waking back up. Just my two cents.

In 2019 BG will play: Male (Scrimmage) St. X Trinity South Warren (District) I don't think anyone can point at the Purples and say they've padded the schedule...

Fredrick Douglas is going to have to pick up a few more wins of consequence to be considered Tier I. they lost to a Scott Co. team that got manhandled in the Finals. I just say that in respect to putting BG, a team that has won 5 of the last 8 5A State Titles in the Tier II group. I think 5A will be fascinating... Cov. Cath is coming back to earth a bit.... South will have to reload quite a lot, but has shown they can do this.... Highlands appears to have finally stopped the bleeding.... BG has a Tisdale, but what else.... Is Fredrick Douglas for real or the product of playing Lexington teams... What happens to Scott Co. when Great Crossings opens.... Pulaski Co. never seems to be out of the mix... Collins is always a potentially dangerous match up... Christian Co?.... Owensboro showed that they are coming back to life... Cooper....Conner...one of them will likely be pretty good... I mean seriously, top to bottom, what an awesome collection of teams to duke it out in 5A. Reminds me of the old 3A in the 80's and 90's. Should be fun!
