WC head football coach Joel Taylor announced on Tuesday that he was stepping down as head coach and retiring from coaching. He was the 4th coach in 4 years when he took over from Clay Stephens in 2016, but spent 3 seasons as head coach for the Dragons without a single win.

 

Life's been tough for Warren Central football fans. The team has had fewer than 10 wins in the last half a decade.

 

Who takes over the job next?

Looks like they haven't even been competitive in a good chunk of their games for the last 3 seasons. What is going on there?!?!

South Warren opening seems to have destroyed WC football. I'm not sure what the answer is, but I hope the administration takes some time and makes a hire that makes sense and wants to be there. Football in Bowling Green will be better if WC can become relevant again.

Greenwood opened in 1990 and split Central, who at that time was one of the biggest schools in KY. Central held on till 1993 and then faded considerably until 2001 when they turned the corner and then took off again as a dominant force in KY from 2002 till 2012.

 

That said, it took them about 8 years (1993-2001) to recover from the Greenwood hit.

 

South Warren came along and split the school again in 2010. Central again held on for about three more years as a serious contender but then faded considerably.

 

It's been about 6 years since they last were holding on (2012). I will say this...their kids have begun looking more like Warren Central kids in recent years. With the right coach, I would consider the job to be a sleeping giant on the verge of waking back up.

 

Just my two cents.

The split after the South Warren opening was more devastating than the Greenwood opening. Mostly due to gerrymandering by the Warren County school district. It hurt Central academically as well as athletics. The basketball team has maintained pretty well but football was shredded. They have some really athletic kids but little support from administration.

Central does have some of the best athletic facilities in the state. I would guess with leadership the football program will rebound.

I’d like to see them hire someone with some HC experience at the HS Level. Hopefully we get a few of those applicants.

Been awhile since I've seen Warren Central play (I think maybe 2 years ago). They were very athletic, just didn't have the numbers. I hope they pick it up and become competitive again.

What has also hurt Central is playing a super tough out of district schedule. District play is already tough having to play Franklin-Simpson every year, but to schedule John Hardin and Central Hardin for example doesn't do them any favors.

They’ve tried scheduling area teams outside of BG. They either are being told no or are not getting phone calls returned.

Ah, I didn't know that. That sucks for them.

It sounds like we should be hearing an announcement about a new coach any day now.
