5. South Warren vs. Christian County

What exactly is the win that is propelling Woodford to #2?

FD doesn’t have much of a resume either but they are at least annihilating Lexington schools.

Cov Cath on the other hand has been crowned the 1A (beat Pikeville) and 2A (beat Beechwood) state champs AND beat Lex Cath (ahem, cough (dodge) Douglas).

BG beat South

South obliterated Highlands

I just can’t understand the Woodford ranking. Maybe the playoffs will shut me up… but I doubt it.

I’m amazed at the number of people who can’t breakdown schedules to figure out who has quality win/ losses compared to those who just have wins.

Woodford County is benefiting from making state semifinals last year and following that up with undefeated season. I think their game with Simon Kenton will show how good they really are or aren't.

Move Owensboro out of the top 10 please.

They're starting to inch their way out, but as long as they win, I don't see them going anywhere. Beating Graves big and beating Hendo period would solidify a top ten ranking, I think.

If CovCath and BG were going to leapfrog Woodford, it should have happened after CovCath's win over Beechwood or BG over SW, maybe even Father Ryan. If the move didn't happen then, then it's definitely not happening after they both had bye weeks and Woodford clocked its opponent.

I do agree that Woodford hasn't done enough to earn #2, but the timing of that move, this week, would have been off. If CovCath and and BG both win this week, I don't see how Woodford can hold on to its current ranking another week.

It’s a poll. It is what it is. Quite frankly this one doesn’t make much sense. It’s just too bad some people don’t look at schedules and take them for what they mean.

Woodford started the year at #3 and hasn't done anything eye catching to move them down much, if at all.  Both CovCath and Bowling Green lost a game this year.  Those combinations make it hard to just wave a wand. With that said, if CovCath beats Highlands I expect them to be #2 in the rankings next week.

Tough crowd.

Woodford Co. is undefeated and has beaten every opponent except one by 29 points or more. The one opponent they didn't beat by 29+ is Franklin County, who they beat 36-21. Their strength of schedule is virtually the same as Douglass. Do people think Douglass should not be #1?

I assume the reason Woodford is being questioned is no signature top tier wins. I get that. This week Woodford Co. plays 6-1 Collins. Still not top tier but a good test.

Owensboro's win over Daviess County is better than any wins Greenwood or Pulaski County have. In fact,  it is better than any wins Woodford County has. One of their losses was to the #1 team in the state St. Xavier and it was a relatively close 2 TD loss. The other loss was to a rival who is ranked #3 in 2A. Right now, I would say Owensboro is ranked right about where they should be.

Good points VOR.

This is a little like playing poker with these teams as your cards and bluffing and raising and folding as the season plays out.

Woodford County is a good team.  But I will say they aren't doing themselves big favors IMO when it comes to preparing for the playoffs.  And it could just be a scheduling thing as year before last they weren't being touted as high as these last 2 seasons.  That's just the process to become more of a prominent football program.  It's just you don't see many teams go deep in the playoffs without being tested at some point during the year.  Could it happen?  Yes, but is it likely?  No.  Especially in 5A.

For Owensboro, I just think many of their fans expected from last year when they saw their schedule come out in the preseason to go 9-1 - Automatic.  Just doesn't work that way.  OCath always circles that game; they have to or they get embarrassed and who would want that.  I know one thing about Owensboro though.  Rash Stadium is a very tough place to win in the playoffs and I still expect them to host Round 2 of the Playoffs vs South Warren and be one of the best games in the State that week!

Beat Hendo and they are top 5 again, but losing to OCath is a disgrace, even without 2-3 starters (Goodwin).  They could play Ocath 20 times and not lose - so that loss is unacceptable to a team as loaded as Owensboro is.  They should beat Graves by 3-4 TD's.  Henderson was beating Boyle in the 4th an is loaded too, so that win and they are in good shape.  Goodwin, Pendleton, Johnson all need to be back - particularly Goodwin - standout both ways.

If CovCath beats Highlands by much less than South Warren did, I feel like there’s an argument for Bowling Green to be made for BG at #2 and Cov Cath at #3.

Regards to Woodford, their schedule is just unbelievably lackluster.  They remind me of Norte Dame in the CFP, sorry Notre Dame fans.

In a vacuum I suppose.  In what I see as the "real world" the SW game gets thrown out (other than being a win for SW and a loss for Highlands) at this layer/level/time of the rankings.

That's some "selective" slicing of the cake don't you think Big Guy!  ?

I'll say again.  I have no problem with BG at #4.

I'm focused on this "potentially" being one of the first years I can recall that BG will likely have a "favorable" path to the Semi-Finals IF they can take care of teams they certainly should.  No guarantees, but that sure beats:

1st Round: Easy

2nd Round: South Warren

3rd Round:  Owensboro

4th Round:  CovCath

5th Round:  Finals

That's a tough road!
