I’m just kidding, I do see it as a talking point at least.  The SW - HHS game can be seen in the same light as the BG - NH game, at least in some way as the teams have changed.

If we are going to do away with "Rabbit Hole Rankings" I think we would have to throw out BG's 14 point loss to Boyle County.  Otherwise we would have to consider Boyle's loss to LexCath and LexCath's loss to CovCath which I believe is all more relevant than claiming something close to if CovCath doesn't put a running clock on Highlands then maybe BG should move ahead of CovCath.

I am kidding too (mostly) and I agree it all makes for good discussion and your BG - NH example is something else that would have to be considered that works against BG in this particular simulation. 

Coming full circle, rankings are very challenging period. 

To add to this, look at what KSR had to do this week with their rankings:

LexCath had to jump up 9 spots, CovCath had to jump up 5 spots, Corbin jumped up 5 spots (I am totally lost here), Boyle had to drop 6 spots, and they have to pretend Trinity wouldn't beat teams 5 through 10.

That is Rabbit Hole Rankings if you ask me.

I think you’re confused on the idea of polls in general. They are not meant to be a direct reflection of the best resumes. If they were, FD wouldn’t be #1 despite the fact we would probably all agree they are the best team in the class. Instead, a poll is who ‘the people’ think are the top-10 teams in the class.  

With that being said, I would personally have WoFo behind Cov Cath, South Warren, and BG. But that’s just my opinion.

I know last year is last year but Woodford looked really good last year against CovCath.  Woodford is 20 - 1 this year and last year combined.  Not bad. ?

I’m not confused on what a poll should be.  I know what they should be. Which is you out the best teams with the best resumes in order. And I don’t know why you would think FD would automatically not be #1.  Maybe, maybe not. 

And your suggestion of having WoFo behind Cov. Cath, BG and South Warren is correct because it’s based on real data.

Part of what happens in polls is determined by where you start. Here is the BGP 5A Pre-Season Ranking:

1. Frederick Douglass 

2. Owensboro 

3. Woodford County 

4. South Warren 

5. Highlands

6. Southwestern

7. Cooper 

8. Bowling Green 

9. Covington Catholic 

10. Pulaski County 

Woodford County started at 3 and Cov Cath started at 9. Then Cov Cath lost their first game. Woodford is still undefeated. How does one loss Cov Cath get past undefeated Woodford?

After the Elder loss, Cov Cath beat Pikeville. That was game 2. As good as Pikeville has been, it is still a 5A school beating a 1A school, it was only by 8 points and CovCath seemed to be struggling on offense. Obviously no one is thinking Cov Cath should jump up the rankings and they stayed at 9 in the BGP ranking.

Week 3 Cov Cath beats Lex Cath 7-6. Lex Cath was #3 in 4A so good win but still not a win 3 weeks into the year that motivates a big move up the rankings. Cov Cath moves up a notch to 8.

Week 4 Cov Cath beats Dixie Heights 47-14. The win is no surprise but that score gets people's attention because the struggling Cov Cath offense put up some numbers. Cov Cath up to 7.

Week 5 Cov Cath beats Beechwood 31-14 and they control the game from start to finish. THIS is the eye opening win. Cov Cath makes a big jump up to #4. This is the same week Woodford beat Franklin County and South Warren dominated Paducah Tilghman. Does Cov Cath deserve to jump over those two season long higher ranked teams after they each had a very nice win? Tough to do, hence Cov Cath to 4.

Week 6 Cov Cath squeaks past Cooper 14-7. Fair or not, this looks like a step back. It is not a win that is going to make pollsters leapfrog Cov Cath over higher rated teams, especially when #3 South Warren pounds Central 24-0. Nope. Not jumping Cov Cath over South Warren off those two scores. Woodford Co. was open so they sit at #2.

Week 7 Cov Cath beats Boone County. That is no help in the rankings. However, South Warren loses to Bowling Green so Cov Cath gets to #3. Woodford puts up 77 points beating West Jessamine. Nothing in a Boone County win merits Cov Cath over Woodford County.

Week 8 Cov Cath is open and Woodford beats Madison Southern 36-0. Does that scream jump Cov Cath over Woodford? 

That gets us here with Cov Cath at #3 and it all makes sense to me.

For your line of thinking to logically follow, there should be no poll until after week 10…

 

Why have a preseason poll when no team has a resume? 
 

Why have a Week 5 poll when teams have only played half of their season and their resumes aren’t developed yet?

 

I could go on. Fundamentally, resume based polling isn’t the standard. It’s an eye test. It’s for fun.

Win over South Warren and Father Ryan.  Father Ryan was very competitive with McCallie last night, South Warren blew out Highlands who just beat Cov Cath.

I have South here because of their schedule and win over Highlands, although I could very well see Woodford here.

4. Woodford

I knocked Woodford down a lot because of a competitive game with Collins.  However they haven’t lost and I know that means a lot to many people, I could easily see them at #3 but I put most of my eggs in the strength of schedule basket.

5. Highlands

Beat Cov Cath and from what I’ve heard, look like a completely different team than I watched in week 1.

6. Cov Cath

Still a great team with good wins, but according to the thread didn’t play their best game last night.

I’m guessing  they’ll move Greenwood up higher in the top 10 and probably move BG down. ?

BG should be hands down #2, but they’ll probably just move up to #3.

Yes, because I believe Collins is worse than Greenwood.  My personal rankings before yesterdays games had Woodford at #3 anyways.  I’ve voiced my opinion on them multiple times, which again, is just my opinion.  
 

If Bowling Green struggled with Greenwood, it would’ve been a knock on them.  If you’re going to play a very easy schedule, then you need to blow out everyone just like Frederick Douglass.  That’s my philosophy, I know many others have different ways of thinking about rankings and that’s just fine to me.
