Past KY Teams that NOBODY this year could beat

Featured Replies

What teams from KY’s past would dominate everyone (regardless of class) in KY this year?

I’ll start… I would say the ‘98 Highlands team would beat everyone by 14 to 21 points

The 2011 BGHS team would cruise through the state this year.

Who else?

  • The Male team with Michael Bush at QB way back when was a team that in my opinion would beat anyone at present.  They were dominant both sides of the ball.

I think the 2017 Covcath team. They destroyed everyone that year. Great high powered offense. AJ Mayer at QB.  Maybe the 2019 Covcath team as well. Michael Mayer playing  both ways and doing what

  • 2000 Boyle County Rebels is one of the better teams ever in the history of Kentucky football. That team had the combination of size, speed, and just overall talent. Eventual 2001 Mr. Football Jeff Dug

2011 Trinity team would absolutely dominate anyone this year.  So much talent on that team.

Never understood the hype on the 98 highlands team.  So they would beat everyone in the state this year by at least 14-21 points.  Guess the whole state must be weak as pondwater this year considering Highlands only beat a 5 loss Simon Kenton by 16.  1 of their other losses was by a 28 point margin.  Only beat a 5 loss Sheldon Clark by 16.  3 of their 4 other losses was by a wider margin.  I wouldn't say Highlands was head and shoulders above everyone in 98, nevermind trying to compare them to teams 25 years later and claiming they would beat everyone by close to 20 points.  Frederick Douglas, and St X for starters are pretty dang good.

I could come closer to believing 2011 Trinity, and BG.  98 Highlands no.

I’d say 2015 Male could be added to that list.

2000 Boyle County Rebels is one of the better teams ever in the history of Kentucky football. That team had the combination of size, speed, and just overall talent. Eventual 2001 Mr. Football Jeff Duggins along with 2000 Mr. Football nominee Matt Quinn. They could run. They could pass. Taylor Begley could hit field goals from 50+.  The Leffew brothers. Just a complete overall team.

2011 (Nationally ranked) ,2013 (Ranked best team in state, no matter class), and 2016 Purples.

I'm sure other programs like Trinity, Male, Highlands, etc have elite squads as well.

Speaking of 2016, 2016 Trinity was also unbelievably talented.

I played on the 2016 BG team so I think I’m a bit biased on that one.  I think it would’ve been a great game.

Maybe the 2019 Covcath team as well. Michael Mayer playing  both ways and doing whatever he wanted to do. Man amongst boys.

The 2017 team had a better offense and I believe they were better than the 2019 team.

I would put Highlands 04 and 09 teams against any team from this year. Both teams finished National ranked. The 04 team had one loss against Elder. The 09 was undefeated and had a marquee win against Cincinnati St  X. The Cincy X beat both Trinity and Louisville St X handily that season.

Highlands was beating Sheldon Clark 35-0 that year after the 1st quarter before pulling their 2 All Americans and several 1st Team All State players. That was never a contest. Spin it anyway you like. I will give you that the SK game wasn't that Impressive but no one was beating the Highlands 98 team that year.
