Final from the Boyle Co. Invitational. Conner girls got better 3 pt. shooting from their freshmen guards and Western Hills was not able to handle the Conner press very well.

This Conner team is not a good shooting team and weren't last year so they are shooting pretty much the way they can.

Oh Conner shoots the 3 plenty. Problem is they don't make very many. Opening game of the season against Ludlow who played a zone I believe they were 4 for 24 and 2nd game 6 for 23 against Beechwood another smaller team who zones a lot. don't have stats on other games as coach hasn't updated KHSAA yet.

Refereeing at the high school level is bad all around the state. I'm sure they can't get a lot of referees that are ex athletes and guys who really know the game to do the job. I've seen referees that do recreation league games out there doing high school. Nobody seems to want to do it anymore unless they need the money.

How did Conner shoot from the outside? They have been awful from 3 pt. land this year.

Funny I read this entire thread and outside of maybe 5 or 6 posts the entire thing centered on the fans, the stands and UK#1 fan. Does no one even want to talk about the game?? Why was SK not able to score after the middle of the 2nd quarter? Bad play calling, bad execution, turnovers, just facing a better team?? I thought there were a bunch of intelligent football fans on BGP. Some of us were not at the game, guess I'll have to go to the news online.

Of course he should. It would be stupid of them not to since he is so close to the area but like I said kids in this area are more likely to be scouted by Midwest schools as opposed to a Florida school.

It's nice to think that this is possible but it's a long shot dream to think that a kid from SK could end up at FSU. Like I said they don't NEED to recruit kids from Northern Ky. There are over 300 D1 kids come out Florida, schools in their backyard and they can get the cream of the crop. Besides what does Lakota West have in common with SK? Lakota West sends kids to high D1 schools all the time. This is not uncommon for them. Ohio State is very active recruiting Cincinnati but not Northern Ky. Kerry Coombs has a lot to do with that.

It's nice to dream that a local kid could end up at a traditional powerhouse but Florida State does not need to recruit in Northern Ky. period. I'd be willing to bet they don't have a coach that even knows where Independence Ky. is. Take a look at the FSU roster sometime. Their roster has 110 kids listed and 76 of those come from the state of Florida. 13 of the other 34 come from Ga, Ala, SC, or Miss. They just don't need to spend any time in Northern Ky. They can get the kids they need much closer to home. Now if SK has kids good enough to go D1 they would be much more likely to be recruited by midwest schools. That's just the way it is.

Sorry to hear about this. Did not know Mr. Groeschen but it sounds like he was a good man. Not to steal the thread but Gary Sargent from Holmes did almost the exact same thing to lead Holmes to their only baseball state championship in 1963. Went on to college and then played 4 years at single A but never really was the same pitcher. Here is an article from Mike Fields. Before high school rules were adopted in the last 20 years to limit the number of innings a pitcher could work, it wasn't uncommon for coaches to ride one kid's arm to glory. In 1963, for example, Holmes won the state title behind the dominant pitching of Gary Sargent. The junior left-hander worked four innings in a quarterfinal victory over McDowell, came back the next afternoon to go the distance in an eight-inning semifinal win over Flaget, then a few hours later pitched seven innings to beat Lone Oak in the finals. Sargent worked 19 innings in 36 hours, gave up one earned run and had 28 strikeouts. Holmes had 23 victories that season, and Sargent had 15 of the wins. Tell that to the Dickie Beal led Holmes team that lost to eventual state champs Owensboro in 1980. They played the late game Thursday night, 2 ot late game Friday night that finished around midnight against a very good Ashland team. Because of a wreck on the Watterson in Louisville got to bed about 3:00 am and had to come back against Owensboro on Saturday morning at 11:30 am. They had no legs and got blown out. Everyone was convinced that the winner of that game would win state that year and would have loved to see it on a level playing field. Under the old format the teams that drew the last game of the Thursday night session had to play last game Friday, 11:30 am Saturday and 8:00 Saturday night. You telling me that you think that is the way basketball in that intense setting should be played? I want to see the best teams play with no disadvantages. I have no problem with teams getting the luck of the draw but 4 games in 50 hours is a little much imo.
