I was. Knowing Gary pretty well I just can't picture him broadcasting a game.

Does this mean that we can eliminate the Birds from serious contention for the 9th region crown or does this game give Birds' fans hope still?

Couldn't agree more on Perkins. I'd take 5 of him and beat just about anybody.

Nobody is questioning his talent thus far. When I said a long way to go I meant 3 years for him to graduate. He will get a lot of opportunities to showcase his talents but he may not get any better over those 3 years. There have been other players who have peaked at a young age. Hatton is a very mature 15 and I am sure that a lot of the kids that he has been compared to were not as physically mature at 15 as they will be at 18. I hope he does but let's not be too quick to make him the next Damon Bailey. Imo he will have to improve his quickness to play at a high D1 level. Here's hoping he is able to do that but let's let him grow up and allow us all to enjoy his talents.

No one has answered a question I asked in an earlier post. Is CovCath eligible to play in the "All" A with their 2009 total of 496 enrollment in 9-12?

Hands down I see GRC as the favorite. The other side of the bracket for the championship is wide open imo.

Very nice article but there is still a long way to go for this young man and he will have to prove that he can play with the best talent in the country to elicit a scholarship from some of the schools mentioned in the article. His ability to get the shot off against bigger, stronger and quicker kids will be the key. I will admit he is a tremendous talent at 15 or 16 years of age whichever he is now.

I think that you are seeing the lack of guard play by CovCath. They just aren't getting any offense from the perimiter. This may be by design but they need to take the pressure off the inside guys, I think Thelen had his way because Scott plays basically a 4 guard set which is why Holmes was able to match up so well against Scott with their quick bunch.

I have seen the Bulldogs play quite a few games and one interesting thing that I've heard people around me say was that the Holmes players go over the back on a lot of rebounds. Personally I thought that the reason that they were getting these rebounds were because they are such quick leapers. With the exception of Knox, the other players are all lean and quick and have excellent leaping ability including Chris Hayes. I also think the additional minutes that Peterson will get now that Mayfield has been lost will help them as well. He is tall and lean and also an excellent leaper. Coach Booher can go to a really quick lineup with Rice, Peterson, Gray, Hayes and Palmer on the floor at the same time. They will need to find some minutes for a few others off the bench but this team could surprise some teams.

I think you hit the nail on the head, it's all about matchups and I'll add something to that, coaching. I think that coaching will play a big role in who wins the 9th region this year. Which coach can make the proper adjustments against their opponent for the night and who can have their kids ready to play. I will be curious to see how the regional tournament is laid out. If it is spread out like it has been on occasion in the past it will give teams more time to prepare for their opponents.

Do you think coach Carr had more than a few things to say to the boys after the Holmes game?

After reading the posts in this thread I think the results of this game show me a couple of things. After watching Holmes play NewCath and CovCath earlier in the year I thought that the key to beating Holmes was to throw various types of zone defenses against them and hope that they missed shots. You obviously don't want to get into an up and down game with them unless you have the talent that Ballard displayed in the high scoring affair at the Hoopin it Up classic where Ballard prevailed 100-96. I clearly expected Dixie to show a 1-3-1 zone utilizing the length of Stansberry and Pike much the way coach Listerman came out in the 2nd half of the CovCath / Holmes game. I thought it was very effective in that game and that Holmes wasn't prepared for it at that time. What this game shows me is that coach Booher has made some adjustments and had them ready to attack the 1-3-1, based on Walter's assessment. Another thing that I thought after watching Dixie play a few games was that the key to beating them was to try to get Pike in foul trouble and not let Hatton go off on you. From some of the posts here it looks like that also occurred in this game. Dixie needs to have Pike on the floor for a lot of minutes to beat the better teams in the region. Muntis gives the team good minutes off the bench but he is not the threat that Pike can be on both sides of the ball. All in all I think this game just reiterates what most of us have been saying all along in that the regional tournament is setting up to be one fantastic tournament with any one of maybe 5 or 6 teams capable of walking off the court at BOK arena with the trophy. I do think that one thing that could help the Bulldogs at the BOK is the 94' floor but the background there could cause them some shooting problems as well. As TO would say "better get your popcorn ready". This could be a great show.

Is that total enrollment 9-12? Do all boys school have to have less than boys/girls schools? I know CovCath only had 496 in grades 9-12 last year. Holmes was only about 32 schools behind Christian Academy last year with 789 in 9-12 and their enrollment is dropping every year. Their enrollment based on the smallest 125 schools could make them eligible in a few years.

Dixie comes into this contest 19-2 and Holmes is 14-7. Who wins this big 9th region battle? Will it be the red Colonels who are looking to gain the respect as 9th region favorites by many or the homestanding Bulldogs coming off the big win at Scott on Saturday?

Just curious what is the enrollment of the biggest school in that bunch of 125?
