It sounds like Shelby Valley is a very young team with a 6'9" freshman center.

It's all Christian Co. at the half 45-16. Shelby Valley with 23 turnovers in the first half.

Nobody said he went off on them the first half. I said he was beating them and getting the ball. They did a good job of keeping him from scoring once he got the ball. The second half he couldn'g even get the ball because they fronted him very well.

Brown was beating the Dixie bigs in the first half but the second half they did a better job of fronting him and as you said he got a little frustrated when he couldn't get the ball late.

Here's hoping that he doesn't come out a little stiff after the fall. His defense on Downs and then Stanley was outstanding and today he will have to be at his best on Hightchew.

Yes Ky. counts all their pts. but only 9-12 are counted on the national high school level for record purposes.

I would assume that would be Jamie Walz but then I guess you are talking male here. Jamie scored an amazing 4948 pts over 6 seasons (1991-1996) and she is the top ranked in Ky. history. She is #10 nationally all time with 3872 since they only recognize high school years which means she had 1076 pts in the 7th and 8th grade. Scott Draud is the leading scorer in 9th region history with 2865 pts but he scored about 2000 of those in his jr. and sr. years so that means he didn't reach 1,000 until early in his junior year.

Based on this the 5th, 8th, 12th, 13th, 15th and 16th regions have no chance whatsoever to win the state tournament but then I guess that's why they play the games.

In the regional tournament teams seem to take the moment more seriously and put a lot of emphasis on making every possession count. I could see the smart coaches look to use the inside game more because of this especially in the first round until the outside guys get their shooting eyes. If I am not mistaken Holmes reluctance to go inside last year led to a lot of errant shots and bad shooting percentages. I say advantage teams with a good inside presence or one that can get to the basket for high percentage shots. Will be interesting to see how teams adjust to the shooting backdrop as the tournament goes on.

Should be a good matchup but when playing on the open court @ BOK teams always seem to have shooting problems from the outside due to the open space behind the baskets. First games could be interesting because of this and inside play may be the road to victory for teams in the early round.

Interesting if you look at the top rated teams in the 8th, 13th and 15th regions they would be rated last if in the 7th region.

He was a star @ Holmes in 1987 and 1988 who led Holmes to the semis in the state tournament where they lost to eventual state champ Louisville Ballard and Allan Houston who starred @ Tennessee and later for the Knicks in the NBA. He averaged around 30 pts a game in 1988 and scored 68 pts in a game against Newport Central Catholic. Jack went on to play @ Western Ky. and over in Europe for years. While only about 6'5" he weighed about 250 in high school and probably around 275 in college and in Europe. He was a prolific scorer and rebounder who reminded you of Charles Barkley. Here was the line of the Holmes / NCC game where Jack scored 68. 68 pts. Jack Jennings, Holmes High (W 101-86) Newport Central Catholic, 1988 (21 reb.)

Late bloomer. He went off in the 9th region championship game versus Holmes in 1966 and Florida State saw something in him. He was only about 6'5" in high school but grew another 4 inches in college and the rest is history.

Why does everyone keep saying that Jack Jennings was a big man. He was only about 6'5" but he did weigh close to 250 in high school so I guess he was a "big" man. Jack didn't just hang out under the basket though. He could shoot it from anywhere but was a strong rebounder that couldn't be moved once he established position.

It's a shame that maybe the best of the bunch won't be there next season, Peterson.

It sounded like they missed a lot of easy layups but as you said got the rebound and scored. Holmes players just get off the floor so quick that they beat some teams to the rebound and get easy putbacks.

The outcome of this game didn't surprise me but CCH playing man defense for most of the game certainly did. In the 2 meetings this year Holmes proved that CCH was unable to guard them man-to-man and Holmes exploted it. Holmes won't be so lucky as to face man-to-man defenses in the regional. They will have to make some shots in order to win it. On a side note none of the other 3 district winners will want to draw CCH in the first round.
