He was a remarkable shooter, probably the best high school shooter I ever watched play. I'll never forget watching him at a basketball camp at Northern when Kenny Shields coached there. He had Scott who was out of college by then give the kids a few tips on how to improve their shooting. He told the kids he might be a little rusty and that he hadn't picked up a a basketball in several months. All he did was shoot 10 shots from each of 5 spots from the foul line to half court and proceed to make 48 of 50 shots. The kids and I as well sat there with our mouths open as he did this, amazing if you ask me.

I don't think any of these kids mentioned here had extreme averages these were just exceptional games in their careers. Scott Draud did lead the state in scoring in 1986 at 35.3 pts/game. He also led them to the 9th region championship and a trip to the state tournament. I agree with you that it's no fun to watch one player take most of the shots but there are days when a player is in a zone.

Got to see sophomore Jake Ohmer from Covington Scott High School score 51 pts. last night in the Lloyd Memorial tournament. It was a fun game to watch as the young man helped bring his team back from an early 17-2 deficit to defeat Stewart's Creek, TN 87-80. I thought it would be fun to reminisce about some of the highest individual scoring feats in Ky. high school basketball over the years that you have witnessed. I personally have seen maybe the top 4 in Northern Ky. although there may be others that I missed. I saw Scott Draud score 69 against Holmes at the fieldhouse in 1986 without the benefit of the 3 pt shot. Two years later I witnessed Jack Jennings make a run at that Northern Ky. record also at the fieldhouse at Holmes and fall just short with 68 pts. He also had 21 rebouds in that game, against Newport Central Catholic . In 1980 I saw Dicky Beal drop 50 on Holy Cross at the fieldouse at Holmes. What do you all remember about the highest scoring games you have witnessed?

You can't be serious can you? She was Miss Kentucky in the modern era and she can't make your top 20 all-time in Ky.? What do you base that on, stats?

Donna Murphy was really ahead of her time in 1976. She was a tremendous athlete and did actually play in a women's professional basketball league but women's basketball back then was always on the back page of any sports pages.

In all fairness to Jaime Walz, girl's basketball is a different game today than it was in 1996. I'm not saying that Jaime wasn't a great high school player, she certainly was. She actually gets cheated in the state records with 4948 pts because she played as a 6th grader and those pts don't get counted in the records. I believe she might have even started she was that good. I saw her play and believe me there weren't many fans in the stands back then and a lot of those wouldn't admit being there. If anything I think Jaime was a pioneer for girl's basketball as girls everywhere in this area wanted to be like Jaime but Sydney Moss is a real athlete that does and probably will get a chance to play in the WNBA. I don't believe that had Jaime been playing today that she would get that chance, just my opinion.

My top 5 Holmes players. Older folks forget how good Herndon was but he had to battle the CovCath giants from 1965/1966 and more than held his own. I wish I could remember his stats from high school but here is a bio on him from the draft review. He was drafted 3rd round by the Chicago Bulls, 45th overall in 1970. Dave Cowens coming out party was the 1966 regional championship game versus Holmes. I believe they won 88-56???, don't quote me on the score. Dave went off that game against a pretty darn good Holmes player named Lou Herndon who would be on my top 5 all-time Holmes player list.

Who's to say what the player was thinking as it happened real time? With the recent injury scare that Bolden had he may be gun shy with anyone near him on that kind of play. I think I would tend to hang long enough to make sure I could come down and land straight. I agree with Walter on the inconsistency of refereeing but refereeing all over is just awful imo. I have seen enough games lately to wonder where some of these guys come from. Maybe that's another thread to beat to death.
