Both were technicals.

A legit argument on the Avery dunk...but go to 9 second mark and pause in Bolden video. Kid grabs the ball underneath him and Bolden looks down to protect himself which is why he spun the other way on the rim. Not a T, IMO...that was a quick whistle. If they are going to call it, you can't call it on one but not the other. Avery's was much more obvious than Bolden's.

 

Just another example of how inconsistent the officiating was down there in Louisville.

Neither are a T if we go by college basketball or NBA standards. See guys hang on the rim much longer than those two and not get T'd up all the time.

If I were Mike I would try to sell that as well. Not valid but I would still try.

I personally didn't think either were a T...but people will say that's because I'm biased. I sent both videos to a college coach that's a friend of mine and he agreed neither were a T as well...but as LionEagle said, he is probably going on college standards.

 

Clyde, what is the official rule on hanging on the rim? Is there a certain amount of seconds? Or is it more a refs discretion that the player is taunting or trying to show the opposing team up? At some point, a kid has to be able to protect themselves as well if there is traffic underneath them...it's not like both dunks were breakaways where they were by themselves.

The rule simply says you cannot hang on the rim other than to prevent injury. Neither of these can be claimed to prevent injury. The T came because both not only hung on the rim but they spun around.

 

That's always a T in high school.
