  1. Start the "everyone loves the atmosphere of the close gyms" thread. While I appreciate the fact that they rotate the districts through the schools the district loses a lot of revenue by not having enough capacity to hold the crowds that they could accommodate at a larger venue. Imo it causes fans to lose interest in even trying to go. I can remember getting shut out of district games at Holmes with 3000 seating capacity. I wouldn't even attempt to go to a district game with 750 capacity.
  2. Here are the 1976 state tournament results. I remember being there to watch Holmes lose to Henry Clay in the 1st round. Edmonson Co. had nail biters until the semifinals and then they just blew out a tired looking Christian Co. team in the championship game. Edmonson Co. was lucky to draw in the early session playing Wednesday and not again until Friday afternoon. Christian Co. was in the bottom half with the Lexington and Louisville schools. They had to play the late Thursday session, late Friday session, Saturday morning against a tough Henry Clay team and really didn't seem to have anything left against Edmonson Co. Saturday night. Not to take anything away from Edmonson Co. they were truly a team of destiny and a great small school story. This probably did save the "sweet 16" as we know it. I am glad though that we now play the finals on Sunday. I think we get a much truer championship game with some teams not having to play 4 games in 48 hours and twice on Saturday. 1976 First Round Shelby Co. 74, Apollo 68 Paducah Tilghman 75, McCreary County 60 Edmonson Co. 77, Betsy Layne 72 Harrison Co. 75, Green Co. 54 Henry Clay 74, Holmes 65 Ballard 95, Hazard 67 Christian Co. 67, Ashland Blazer 63 Shawnee 85, Clay Co. 57 Quarterfinals Shelby Co. 64, Paducah Tilghman 54 Edmonson Co. 61, Harrison Co. 57 Henry Clay 77, Ballard 74 Christian Co. 75, Shawnee 69 Semifinals Edmonson Co. 53, Shelby Co. 52 Christian Co. 68, Henry Clay 67 Championship Edmonson Co. 74, Christian Co. 52
  3. Not to take away from your post but there were no 3 pt goals at that time in high school in Ky. He was definitely something to enjoy during the games.
  4. 10 in a row for CCH since losing to Holy Cross in the shoebox. Looks to me like colonels are clicking and more than ready to defend their regional titles. It would be hard to not bet on their doing that.
  5. Good win for the lady cougars against a Notre Dame team that has been playing very well of late having won 6 in a row including wins against Scott and HC. Still say this Conner team can be dangerous if they can score the ball as they play pretty good full court pressure defense. Anybody have any details?
  6. Cam needs to go back and look at the way Peyton Manning handled their loss to Seattle in 2014. I guess it's all a matter of growing up. If you are going to celebrate the wins, learn to handle the losses. You can't win them all unless you're Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw. Let's see how he responds to this loss next year.
  7. Is this thread about Cam Newton? If Cam Newton is trying to show someone up then yes it is unprofessional.
  8. If you think that I was condoning this then you definitely misread my reply and yes it is a GAME played at that level by big, fast and sometimes violent men who are mainly out to get as much money as they can in the short amount of time they are in the league.
  9. While I don't like to see any player get hurt to the point that they miss games or have their careers shortened it is tackle football and still a brutal sport at times. Antonio Brown is the best receiver in football from a numbers standpoint but if he continues to put himself in the spotlight with his celebration antics, a la Ocho Stinko, he's going to become the target of many dbs and lbs who are going to want to put him on the sidelines permanently. With the number of plays that he is involved with over the middle he will become a good target for more of that treatment. He needs to shut up, play ball and act like he's been there after scoring! After all winning is the other teams livelihood also.
  10. Thought this SK team was a team that had promise to start the season. What seems to be the problem? Are they young or is Trent just not getting production out of everyone? Not seeing them play I wonder if someone could enlighten me.
  11. Conner struggling of late. After starting strong they have lost 7 of their last 11 games and are not trending in the right direction. After seeing this team at Christmas time I thought this was a team that could scare some teams. They have a couple of games to get it turned around and finish with Holmes and NCC before the districts start. Could still finish strong imo.
  12. Wouldn't you empty the bench early in a 37 point beatdown?
  13. Loved Lou Piniella but hope mentally he still has baseball knowledge to share with the young kids. Toward the end of his managing career he looked like he was lost in the dugout tossing a ball in the air at times and his post game interviews were somewhat sad to watch. Maybe he was just tired of it all and has been rejuvenated. I certainly hope so as I loved his style.
  14. The one and done is ruining college basketball as we used to know it. You no longer can identify with certain players because they are here today and gone tomorrow. You never really get to see them develop as players or as young men. Let's face it there is a large percentage of people that follow college basketball who could care less about the NBA. Once a player leaves your favorite school they are forgotten and most people have no idea where they even are. If kids out of high school don't want to spend 4 years in college let them go overseas and play or go straight to the league. I know the idea was to try to get unprepared kids ready for the life in the pros by spending 1 year in college. I just don't think it's working. For every Anthony Davis there are many Daniel Ortons. Change the rule like it is in baseball or football or get rid of it altogether.
  15. Congrats on the win and Stamm's 200th. The lady cougars continue to struggle with their shooting woes, 15 of 45, 2 of 17 from 3 and 13 of 24 from the line in the win against Boone Co. If they don't start shooting better it will be a tough stretch here at the end with ND, Highlands and NCC still on the schedule. The district looks to be set with Ryle #1, Boone Co. # 4 with Cooper #3 and Conner #2 set to face each other in the districts. Cooper just beat Conner recently and they need to tighten things up if they want to get to the regionals. They are dangerous when they play tight "d" and hit the "3" but have dropped 4 of their last 6 and these upcoming games loom large in their getting momentum for the tournaments imo.
  16. Per the KHSAA site Conner was 11-20 from the foul line. Free throw shooting continues to haunt the lady cougars. Have to think that a few of those the second half were front ends. Also looks like Hurst struggled with only 2 pts and 0-9 from the field. This team is capable of upsetting someone should they get to the regional but they would have to be clicking on all cylinders imo.
  17. Heard that Conner held the ball for 6 minutes in 2nd quarter and score was 13-13 at half. Conner had a 2 point lead with about 2 minutes to go but would end up losing by the final score of 46-42. Sounds like they made it interesting for the lady raiders.
  18. Pretty amazing for anyone any year. I never thought that Jamie's record would be topped and this girl is going to blow it away. Congratulations and much success at the next level. Go disprove your doubters.
  19. Is this a serious thread or did you just have a nightmare and woke up at 2:30 to post this? What makes you want to dub this team the best ever? A good team yes but best ever I hardly think so. They had numerous games this year where they had to hold on to win at the end. Can you say this team is better than the Pats the year they lost their only game in the Bowl to the Giants after a freak helmet catch.
  20. If my math is correct it looks like Miss Creech needs 63 points to surpass Jamie Walz - Richey after scoring 220 points in her last 5 games to give her 1035 on the season. She still has 9 games left in the regular season so based on her current 49.3 average you would expect her to break the record on Feb. 4th at Perry County Central. In an earlier outing against Perry Co. Central she scored 55 points. She faces Painstville next On Feb. 2nd at Paintsville. I would expect a full house for those next 2 games in anticipation of her breaking the record.

  22. Congratulations to the Conner lady cougars JV team as they captured their 3rd consecutive regional championship last night at Notre Dame with a 39-19 victory over the Highlands lady bluebirds. Congratulations to the girls who made the all tourney team, Casey Hite, Maddie Burcham and tourney MVP Madi McLemore. Over the last 3 seasons the lady cougars have only lost 3 games, 2 in 2013-2014, 0 in 2014-2015 and they just recently lost a heartbreaking 2 pt game to Simon Kenton for their only blemish of the 2015-2016 season to date. Finish out the season strong ladies and enjoy yourselves.
  23. They need to do something to try to attract more fans to home games, apparently winning their conference alone isn't enough. There are only 6 teams in the NFL that fill a lesser % of home seats than the Bengals (93.7%); St. Louis (80.2%), Oakland (86.5%), Washington (89.7%), Tennessee (90.1%), Cleveland (90.4%) and Tampa Bay (93.5%). Two of those teams are leaving town!
