About what papa expected. Mason 15-11 after 1; Scott 25-24 at half; Scott 37-32 after 3; Mason outscores Scott 17-7 in the final stanza. Royals led by Black and Johnson with 11 apiece, Hamm with 9 including 5 big ones late, 7 from Chambers. Eagles led by Jackson's game-high 20; Pouncy and Castleman with 6 apiece. Coach O'Hearn gave big props to Josh Harris for his defense on Jackson late in the game.

Congrats to the Royals on the win; and to Scott as well.

Harris gave Mason Co the win tonight with his late forth quarter D.

Look like scott quit playing in the fourth quarter. Much credit to mason county for taking away What appears to be our only option. When scott gave the lead up it appeared that all the kids were afraid to shoot. That's a tough loss I'd rather go down swinging Rather than holding the ball. It seems like everytime we have a kid drive to the basket It was outside our offemsive play And they would be pulled. That caught up to us by the end of the game no 1 wanted to shoot. Not going to win a lot by only scoring 7 in the fourth quarter.

Not sure why Pouncy wasn't on the floor late in the game. He was the hottest outside threat tonight but was pulled repeatedly late in the game. Don't think he even played the last 4 min? Hit his only two shots in the 1st half, both 3's! Kind of frustrated that he wasn't even given a chance to help the team at the end of the game. Scott continued to have key turn-overs and bad shots at the end. Should not have lost this game. Fouls at the end of the game were a huge margin 13 Scott - 6 MC?

The Eagles' Blake Daugherty (5) and Nick Jackson (23) defend.

MOUNT STERLING | Having done the region tournament dance a few times as both a coach and a player, Mason County coach Chris O'Hearn knows "if you have a weakness, it will be exposed" this time of year.

Scott was able to exploit a Royals weakness -- shooting from the field -- in the 10th Region tournament quarterfinals on Thursday night at Montgomery County.

But Mason's experience, a question mark coming into the season, showed itself to be strong down the stretch as the Royals found enough points to advance with a 49-44 victory.

Senior Tyler Black and sophomore Shawn Johnson scored 11 points apiece for Mason (17-13). Senior Cody Hamm scored seven of his nine points in the fourth quarter, including the go-ahead 3-pointer as part of a 9-0 run.

Junior Nick Jackson led everyone with 22 points -- half his team's final total -- and 11 rebounds for Scott (15-15).

Both teams found themselves on the business end of wide foul discrepancies for a half. Mason was whistled for 11 fouls to Scott's five in the first half, and after halftime, the Eagles were called for 12 violations to the Royals' six. That made the math even at 17 fouls each for the game.

I don't think its the officials job to 'balance' fouls. A foul is a foul regardless of how many. However in no way did the officiating beat Scott. Scott beat themselves when we had 5 point lead and basically stopped being aggressive. The whole momentum changed and complexion of the game. I'm scratching my head as to why the kids that got us there were no longer the ones playing key minutes. When kids are sat down for drives at the rim and wide open 3's then our coaching staff has no confidence in his players. The players pick that up and play that way. Scott apparently wasn't as good as I thought. We seemed to have only 2 options the coaches trust. They aren't efficient options either. When you have 2to new starters in the region tourney then you know your team is in turmoil and that's never good for the teams chemistry or confidence. Its a shame is all. Too much talent sitting there watching a two man game. Next year is not going to be much better because its the same group of kids.

It seemed like we wanted two kids to be in control of our destiny. One finishes well, not 1 on 5 though. And the other over penetrates and forces something terrible. We have more weapons than that. Like a coach told me last night during the first half. Stack the middle against your big and let the other short PG attack. He will shoot you out of game's . Also felt that they could attack him offensively away from ball as he often is watching the ball. Basically... he was wondering the same thing because he has a lot of respect for our staff. Quote" Scott's easy to scout".
