UK was on plus gas prices are high.

So I am wondering if the Boone County Board of Education decides to not allow the students to miss school when their teams play in WKU and Rupp, since students don't attend the local games anyway! :idunno:

 

Was told by a co-worker who attended the 33rd District games, that he was shocked that Boone County HS had so few students attend the District games.

 

If you don't care to attend the games locally, why should you care to attend the games when they get to the state tourney?

I rember in the regional finals against Holmes a couple of years at the BOK Center, the Boone County student section was packed. The wheels seem to have fallen off.

That group of players deserves far better. They represent their school very well

That's a statewide problem at a lot of places, not just Boone Co. At Bardstown, where the students have developed a nice reputation around the area for their spirit, the kids showed out in droves on the opening-round Thursday of the the All A Classic in Frankfort (tip-off was 11:30am for their game). In every succeeding round, the student turnout dropped, despite Bardstown making it to the finals on Sunday. Of course, there was no "miss school" incentive to attend the other three games.

It was so bad that the Boone band (outstanding as always!) would play for a while, set their instruments down, and then go down and be the cheering section.

 

I saw more recent Boone grads than I did current students.

 

The students missed a great day in Boone history.

I saw two Boone home games this year. In both games the student support was closer to zero students than 20. In fact, in both games the overall turnout wasn't nearly what I expected.

I wondered the same thing about pricing. The cost of a ticket and the additional $4 to park, adds up pretty quick to a teen.

$6 pre-sale ticket, pack the car and everybody chips in a buck, and you bring in a drink and a bag of M&M's .......Bingo. This was not a problem for any of the other schools.

I think it is a problem across the state. Why pay to watch high school basketball when you can watch college games at home. Most schools struggle to create an environment of school spirit. We live in a society where it is easier to criticize the other team and complain about your team or coach instead of just showing support for the kids and coaches who are giving their all! Think about adults that attend games, most of them spend their time complaining about the coaches, players and refs! Instead of just being supportive and cheering for their team!!

Something else many people may not realize is a lot of Florence is downright poor. Almost 50% of the residences in the city of Florence are apartments. Add to that travel, parking, admission, refreshments, etc. when those same kids can hang at home and play PS3 and use FB for "free" it is easy for me to see why the turnout is so poor.
