I don't think anyone is trying to make anything personal at all. I have nothing against Boone or its students. Some of my best friends and even my wife went to Boone. I was sitting with a group of people from Boone. All of them said the same thing as soon as they walked in...."Why doesn't Boone ever have a student section?" Its actually pretty sad. One of my greatest memories of playing high school ball was playing in front of some great student sections. I'm happy for this Boone team but its sad that for a school that size that it doesn't have better school spirit.

 

As for the "poor" or "unwealthy" excuse. I'm pretty sure many more families from Holmes and Newport have "poverty" problems than the kids from Boone. I believe both those teams played on the Sundays with UK playing the past couple years from what I recall.

Because I think the kids who play the games and work hard, deserve to be supported at all the games by their fellow students and not just when they go downstate and the students get out of school for a day!

 

So explain to me why the Boone County students will come to Rupp in droves? Do you think it is because they can get off school (Boone County will play at 1:30 pm 3/15 Thursday) or is it because they all of a sudden care about their fellow classmates? You tell me!

There were actually alot of Boone students there but not sitting in one big cohesive group. The Boone County fans are very proud of both of the teams advancing to state! It would be nice for one day that the rest Northern of Ky could just be excited for this school instead of putting something negative about them on the same day both teams advance to the sweet 16. These kids are never given any credit on here. The students at this school are a wonderful group of kids! GO REBELS!! Bring back the win for Northern Ky!

I'll back up your contention that at the high school level KY is more of a football state than a basketball state. To be fair , playing once a week during the fall on a Friday does lend itself to more support than multiple times/various days in the winter for basketball.

To be fair to Boone, NC's student section wasn't very big considering 400 kids in the school and NDA didn't have a formal student section that I saw. My guess is this game being on Sunday contributed as well.

100? My public school math must be the problem.

A lot of high school kids work part time jobs, mostly on the weekends. The games are expensive for high school kids, plus many of them don't have transportation there. I saw a lot of students there, but they were spread out. As a matter of fact, at the beginning of the girls' game there were a bunch of students sitting together at one end, and they had to move.

 

I tend to agree with this. When I was in highschool I missed the semi's of my schools All Tourney for work (I was there for the 1st 2 games and the finals) and also missed the regional semi's that year b/c I had to work (I made the finals), though I had the games on the radio. When I was in school outside of football season there was hardly a weekend I didn't work Saturday and Sunday.

Keep in mind another 7-8% of NCC kids were in uniform (have to include the cheerleaders)

Disappointed with this thread. Boone County won two games and are moving on to state. Time for BGP to move on too.

 

I have no affiliation with Boone. (St Henry and Cooper---after I make sure I am aligned with the right feeder schools :lol:)

 

So many posters who I usually respect and enjoy reading what they have to say have really turned sour here.

 

Let's see, what can we complain about. Refs? Nah..both games were pretty clean. Players? Nope. Sportsmanship? Nothing to really harp on. Cheering sections? Yeah, that's it! Boone did not have one so let's start some senseless chatter...

 

But this is just my thin-skinned opinion.

The second, while I see where you are coming from, I simply was shocked that a school of Boone's size had such poor student support with two teams in the finals. However I think my question has some LEGITIMACY. :idunno:

It is more of a convenience issue than a poverty one if you ask me. Sunday afternoon game about 30 minutes away that is relatively expensive isn't as appealing to your average high schooler than if the Region final were on a Friday night down the road at Conner or Ryle. Not justifying it, I just think that is what is at play here a little bit.

 

Side note: How sad is it that this thread has more posts than the game thread? Talk about taking away from the team...
