I have always been amazed that schools this small could field teams. I am surprised this doesn't happen more often. I hope there were not any senior girls who played. Shame that they would miss out on their senior season.

Just another reason to question why Silver Grove is not absorbed into the Campbell County school system or is it just a matter of when? Are they down to a one room schoolhouse yet?

I agree with this and this would take us to a whole other thread! But the folks in SG are very proud of what they do have. They are the last of the small close nit communities and you can't fault them for trying to hold out what they own today. I get it from their side of things. But from the outside, the benefits are huge for merging with CC. CC's education has made a huge jump in the last 10 years and that alone would be a reason I want to send my kids there if am from SG.

The boys program contains only 9 players, most of whom are seniors.

Mr. Gary Traylor, who played at Silver Grove from 1956 though 1959 was inducted into the Northern Kentucky Athletic Directors' Hall of Fame last night, and while on the dias, he recited the names of all of the greats who have passed through Silver Grove High School, or lived in Silver Grove and went elsewhere to high school. The school and community indeed have a storied past.

During the late 80's Jim Elam coached a team that had two Division I players among its ranks. Bev Smith and Cristy Greis.

Unfortunately those days appear to be in the rear view mirror on both the boys and the girls side.

Due to the efforts of folks like Bernie Sandfoss, there will always be a school in Silver Grove, however it may well be a grade school/middle school. While I'd hate to see it go, the high school may be in its final years.

That's sad for seniors.

I'm not sure they had any seniors playing. If I'm not mistaken, the majority were underclassman and (I think) middle school kids.

Understanding and disappointment. When you talk recognition for top coaches everybody looks at the programs that dominate and are loaded with talent every year, and in many cases, rightfully so. But after watching the girls at Silver Grove the last couple of years compete in both volleyball and basketball with diminished numbers against overwhelming odds, I have come to admire the players and the coaches. No matter the score they always seem to keep trying and working hard. Which is an amazing feet in and of itself. Just to keep this kids positive and motivated enough to keep coming to practice and showing up at game time and giving all they have is CoY material to me.

My heart goes out to the kids who will miss this season and I hope a viable solution for them is found. And to the coaches who have worked so hard in the face of adversity just to keep the program going over the past years I applaud your efforts. You would definitely have my vote for CoY.

Sure. If they transfer to Campbell County...

Honest question because I really don't know. If you attend a school that doesn't offer a particular sport, is it permissible to attend a neighboring schools sports team that does offer that sport?

For instance- if you attended St Henry as a Frosh and Soph- then wanted to play football- could you play at whichever Boone Co High School district you lived in (or anywhere for that matter) but still attend St Henry for school?
