Honest question because I really don't know. If you attend a school that doesn't offer a particular sport, is it permissible to attend a neighboring schools sports team that does offer that sport?

For instance- if you attended St Henry as a Frosh and Soph- then wanted to play football- could you play at whichever Boone Co High School district you lived in (or anywhere for that matter) but still attend St Henry for school?

 

I don't see why not. The KHSAA allows middle-school students who don't attend a particular high school play to play for whomever they choose. Might as well open it up to everybody .... justsayin.

I have to assume they would have to transfer to Campbell County as a student. I can't imagine any scenario where a student could be enrolled at one school and play a sport at another.

I spoke to Coach Wiehe last night. He is taking over the middle school program to get the younger kids interested and playing before moving up to the varsity level. All the best to him as he builds the program.

The boys program contains only 9 players, most of whom are seniors.

 

Mr. Gary Traylor, who played at Silver Grove from 1956 though 1959 was inducted into the Northern Kentucky Athletic Directors' Hall of Fame last night, and while on the dias, he recited the names of all of the greats who have passed through Silver Grove High School, or lived in Silver Grove and went elsewhere to high school. The school and community indeed have a storied past.

 

During the late 80's Jim Elam coached a team that had two Division I players among its ranks. Bev Smith and Cristy Greis.

 

Unfortunately those days appear to be in the rear view mirror on both the boys and the girls side.

 

Due to the efforts of folks like Bernie Sandfoss, there will always be a school in Silver Grove, however it may well be a grade school/middle school. While I'd hate to see it go, the high school may be in its final years.

 

During the same time Smith and Greis played for the ladies, the boys team also had two giants. I know one of the two was a Greis, both kids were 6'8" or taller. Remarkable for a school of that size.

Hopefully the plug will get pulled on the school next. If it's really about the kids, they would be going to CC, and getting a better education with more resources. I don't know what there is to be proud of - the school district test scores are at 56%, some of the lowest in the State, vs 74% for CC. This isn't 1903 and the railyard is long gone. Move on.

I realize this question was posed last year, but following up anyway.

 

Didn't Cole Von Handorf play for Villa Madonna High School while attending Blessed Sacrament or some other school as an 8th grader? I know that is a little different than attending one high school and playing for another, but I believe he did attend a school other than Villa Madonna and played for them.
