$3.00 Parking at the 10 Region All A at NKU

Before I start my rant I want to give alittle background. The 10th region "A" member schools agreed years ago in order to host the tournament their gym needed to hold 1000 people. Cal. Christian's gym does not meet the criteria so they passed it on. Same for Augusta, Silver Grove, and St. Patrick. However, for some reason Bishop Brossart who does not have a gym big enough to hold the tournament. Can't follow suite and pass on the tournament. They have to have their say. In years past they have used the Campbell County Middle School for their site. This year there is a conflict with CCMS so they have decided to move the tournament to Regents Hall on the campus of NKU. IMO I believe this is a time for the "A" schools to have the chance to showcase their gyms. Because we all know they will never be hosting the at-large region or even their own district tournaments.

Now to add insult to injury the 10th region schools today were informed that NKU will be charging $3.00 to park. I've been to the All "A" at CCMS, Bracken County, Deming, Nicholas County, and Paris and I've never had to pay $3.00 there to park. But thanks to Brossarts selfishness you will be doing it this year if you attend the tournament. I hate to think that this will cause some people not to attend the tournament. Especially the students of the participating schools. So I hope Brossart is proud of how they are conducting this tournament.

If anyone would like to voice their displeasure you should contact A.D. Mel Webster at Bishop Brossart. Tell him what you think. I know I will!!!:madman::madman::madman:

That is NKU fee for using there facilities. When Highlands played Cov Cath in soccer at NKU they also charged the 3 to park. Brossart probably knew the fee was coming since they used the soccer field for there senior night. If the all "A" schools wanted to showcase there gyms why would you put in a rule that the gym had to seat 1000 people. Think of it as a convience fee and enjoy the basketball.:D

The point is Brossart's Gym does not seat 1000 people. What gives them more right than the other Class A Schools. I will go to some of the games and pay the $3 for parking, but this should of never happened. Thanks for the convience fee.

I won't be going then, am sure admission will be $7 and bottled water $5, just another reason to love those Northern Kentucky schools. Being old school, for me the 10th region stops at Pendleton County. Wish Brossart, Campbell County,Scott, etc. would just go where they belong(in the 9th). Wish the 10th region would pick up some 16th region teams and go with it. Northern Kentucky is just Southern Cincinnati.

More like an inconvience fee.

The split occurs after the host school takes an allowance.

Not the case. The host school gets reimbursed for expenses. Normally the host school makes their money from the concessions and from programs if they wish to sell them. Since NKU is getting the concessions, all BB will get is reimbursed for their expenses which is not generating revenue. Plus, 1/9 of the gate after expenses. So this is not the cash cow for BB as you make it out to be. I bet Bracken County is counting their parking spaces as we speak. At $3.00 they will generate alot of revenue for their program next year!!

Before everyone goes piling up on us, (Brossart), I'd like to clear a few things up.

We're sorry that our on-site gymnasium only seats 750 and that we are unable to host the 10th Region "A" tournament at Brossart High School. We would love to have a gym that seats 1200-1500, but we don't.

We really want to be in the rotatation. We feel that just because we can't host it on-site shouldn't mean that we (or Augusta, Calvary, SG, or St. Pat) can't host it at all. We have gone to great lengths in the past to host it at the Campbell County Middle School and this year to host it at Regents Hall at NKU. It would be easy to pass and not go through the time, effort, and trouble to host the tournament. But we feel that we can do a first-class job, and provide a positive experience for everyone involved - teams and fans alike. Just because school's with gyms that seat 1,000 people doesn't mean that all of the other bases are covered - parking, locker room facilities, etc..

At Regents Hall we will have ample seating, four spacious locker rooms, and parking areas set off for our fans.

We are working tirelessly to make this tournament a success. We will have a first-class hospitality room sponsored by Barleycorn's (Jan 19-22nd) and Subway (Jan 17th). We are producing a full-color, spiral bound program and are creating sharp commemorative T-Shirts that we plan on selling at a minimum price. We are going to broadcast the entire tournament over the internet so that those who can't come to Northern Kentucky can listen to the games and those at the game can go home and listen to the replay. We are going to provide pizza (or something suitable) and Gatorade to each team following their games. We are really going the extra mile to gain approval from the participating teams and their fans. I feel like the rental car company who was Number 2 and had to try harder - that because we don't have a gym that meets the requirements, we have to work harder to make up for it with a quality product.

When we contracted with NKU to host the tournament there, they said they would block off parking for us, but the first mention of a fee was at our meeting with the facilities coordinator last Wednesday. We pushed back, requested an exception, and are presently pursuing the possibility of paying a "blanket" charge that perhaps we could deduct from tournament revenues to eliminate the parking fees. Nothing is etched in stone. I will be honest, because this is a five day event, it is likely that a "blanket" fee, should NKU agree to one, might be cost prohibitive.

The parking fee is is the same argument that led to a multi-page thread on this site back when the 10th Region tournament was held at the BOK Center two years ago. When all was said and done, the consensus was that the 10th Region was a huge hit with the fans and that as long as it was part of a four-year rotation, it was a welcome change of pace, and something that most fans/teams would look forward to every four years.

The same applies here. Brossart is only one team in a nine team rotation. Even narrowing the rotation down to the teams who presently wish to host the tournament, Brossart is only going to host the tournament every five years.

All we ask is to be given a chance. I would hate to see a great effort on our part to conduct a first-class event be totally overshadowed and only remembered becasue of a $3 parking fee. Give us a chance and then write the reviews following the tournament. I think we will pass muster with flying colors.

It also gives the players a chance to play on a college floor in a very nice arena. This is a thrill for a lot of the players. They'll play if your there or not. So don't go. The players will still have a great time.

Were talking Regent's Hall which is not all that grand. I believe your refering to the BOKC.
