It's about them expecting the state of KY and surrounding areas to treat them differently, because of their successes or "who" they are. It's about the lack of respect for other programs and constant nose towards the sky. It's about mile high egos and them feeling that they can collect players from all of NKY. It's not all their fault though, parents (such as Mike Mitchell's) buy into this and move their boys in to play football. Everyone who hates Highlands, hates them for those reasons.

Dont know where you heard that but thats not true. And if the school couldnt afford it then I am positive fundraisers would be placed in order for the trip to happen. Maybe meet a team from Florida and play in Tennessee somewhere or Georgia, they could bus there. And that is the one thing you pulled out of my entire post? I mean really?

 

When I read your post, I spit my Oreo's across the room. The same stood out for me. If you are a graduate and religious follower of the program and school, then you would know HHS does not have the money to send any type of athletic team on a National trip. UCRN is spot on. It would have to be raised and those wells are drying up, especially with these times we are in. Would love to see it but it happening. Not by the school anyway.

I agree Highlands doesn't have the resources and funds to fly just ANYONE in for a home game, but to make it sound as if they're broke is far from the truth.

 

I will say though that the facilities could definetly use an upgrade, especially the weight room and locker room.

You also need to know that Fort Thomas schools don't have busing therefore they do not have available school busses for transportation. Fort Thomas schools own one small school bus for special needs and two eight passanger vans. Charter buses for 80 plus people is the only option.

 

I agree with the bolded part, and the fine people of Fort Thomas are giving all they can to make that happen. It would be nice if the state would give alittle. Heck, we pay enough in taxes.

The only thing I have to say about this is that people often forget that Highlands is a 3a sized school playing in 5a.

 

Actually, as of last year's enrollment numbers Highlands is a 4A school. Not by much, but they were 4A.

Then they hate them for reasons that speak more about the hater than the hated. None of these things are true in the least.

As to the first bolded part, isn't that just a blanket statement to say that everyone hates Highlands? Do you really believe that to be true?

 

And, as for the second bolded part (Highlands is hated because of who they think they are), let's be very clear here. You and the other haters (your words) may hate Highlands, but it is because of who you think we think we are. There is a big difference between the two, and it is your perceptions that have led to your feelings. You may even have examples of behaviors that have led you to the perceptions you have, but you have chosen your response.

woody, there are people who dislike Highlands and people from Ft. Thomas. I can't disagree with that. But what we should be examining is whether that dislike is justified. I know way too many people that disliked Highlands and people from Ft. Thomas until they actually got to know people from Ft. Thomas or really understand Highlands. There are some posters on here that grew up in other N. Ky communities that now live in Ft. Thomas who will tell you that their perceptions about people from Ft. Thomas and Highlands were all wrong. Honestly, a lot of folks from N. Ky engage in the same type of stereotyping towards Ft. Thomas that we see in other areas of society. I have a feeling that the Guru had certain wrong perceptions about Ft. Thomas and Highlands before he took the opportunity to spend some time and get to know people from Ft. Thomas and Highlands, but he'll have to tell you that himself.

 

I'm sure there are some people from Ft. Thomas that look down on others; isn't that the case in almost every community? I think so. But those folks in Ft. Thomas are in the very small minority.

 

Do we take great pride in our community, our school and our athletic programs? You betcha we do. But that pride and its expression, isn't looking down on others in my opinion.

 

I'm sure you've heard the oft stated cliche of "no one likes a winner". I really think that is more the cause for the dislike than the actions or beliefs of a majority of the Ft. Thomas residents. And to be blunt, if in order to be liked, Highlands has to quit aggressively attempting to be the best in athletics and academics, I'll just have to accept being disliked by other folks I guess.

Seems to me like a matter of perspective. It seems more like people feeling they have to look UP their noses at people from Highlands. Of course this isn't true; but that doesn't stop a certain number of people from carrying those kind of stereotypes.
