My argument is one that I like Highlands very much, but this latest introduction of being a NATIONALLY ranked team makes me laugh. Some of the most ardent Bluebird supporters do not believe that Highalnds is, was, or ever will be the #3 team in the nation. thenamerobdigity and I have come to a thoughtful conclusion where he thinks Highlands basically plays a decent schedule-doesn't lose and positions themselves further and further up the national rankings as other teams lose, and I say fair enough to him.

 

My belief is that if Highlands really wants folks to believe they are a NATIONAL power they need to schedule WAY UP with local and state powers to prove they are the best around here. For national rankings it doesn't matter how many kids you have in your school or on your team as it is football. Just a good lively discussion and other posters and I have come to a peaceful conclusion; however, I am always glad to be enlightened by others thoughtful responses.

Highlands can afford to fly a team down to play on a Saturday 1 time a year, and we all know people would follow. And have a big powerhouse come into our house 1 time a year. Dont know where you heard that but thats not true. And if the school couldnt afford it then I am positive fundraisers would be placed in order for the trip to happen. Maybe meet a team from Florida and play in Tennessee somewhere or Georgia, they could bus there. And that is the one thing you pulled out of my entire post? I mean really?

The only thing I have to say about this is that people often forget that Highlands is a 3a sized school playing in 5a. The only small school Highlands really plays is Beechwood. Almost every year Highlands plays one of the top GCL teams and plays a bunch of local teams. I would like Highlands to play a team from one of the big 3 states as you mentioned earlier. People often forget that in those Ohio vs. the USA challenge that the Cincinnati teams won a lot. There were top teams from all over the country that played in those games and Ohio fared very well. Out of Cincy St. X, Elder, and Colerain, one of them is nationally ranked at one point in the year. Outside of Miami Fl., Cincinnati has some of the best football teams in the country, its just a matter of getting those teams to schedule Highlands and determining if it is worth it. Like I said before, I think Highlands schedules great the way they currently do it.

 

And as far as the national rankings go, a lot of top teams in the country lost last year for Highlands to move up that high.

REALLY! Have you been around the HHS program(s)? The $$ well runs only so deep...and it is CONSTANTLY being pulled from in MANY directions. The "let's just have a fundraiser" solution is just about tapped out. Better to have the Herbie...or some other promoter...bring the game local and stimulate our economy rather than give it away to another locale. And although Bluebird Nation travels well...they would be dominated by a crowd from a school such as 6A Texas (et.al.) But hey, cut to the chase, you just want to see someone...anyone...beat Highlands.

If the courts ruled in Highlands favor then I think that the KHSAA should have no choice but to give back the wins. One would think that if the KHSAA did not return the wins Highlands could take the KHSAA to court again and probabley get the court to rule in their favor. Of course that would make the KHSAA hold a grudge against Highlands and they would make up for it at some other point in time I am sure.

 

I have to tell you that in the past, there was certainly a belief by some that if a school appealed the KHSAA's decisions, the KHSAA would take vindictive action. There was a belief by some that if a school appealed the Commissioner's imposed sanctions to the BOC, the BOC would impose even greater sanctions if the BOC agreed that violations had been committed (sort of a " you better not question the sanctions because if you do, they will be increased" message). Let me state loud and clear that I do not believe the current Commissioner or a majority of the current members of the BOC feel that way. But again, certain folks felt that was the case previously. Which may explain why Highlands may not have previously taken the KHSAA to court over this issue. I think Highlands is hoping that by presenting its position to the KHSAA in a non-confrontational way, the KHSAA will see the merits of Highlands position and correct a past mistake.

Actually not the case because Im a Highlands graduate and follow them religiously. How they play a big time program isnt as important as getting to play them in itself. I just want Highlands to beat one of these powerhouses so all the haters will finally shut their mouths.

Not to quibble with the headline writer, but wouldn't the record technically be 27-(-12) if the ruling is overturned? Not only do the wins get added (15 + 12=27), but the losses get removed (0-12=-12).

I never could understand that " new " math. :madman:

It's about them expecting the state of KY and surrounding areas to treat them differently, because of their successes or "who" they are. It's about the lack of respect for other programs and constant nose towards the sky. It's about mile high egos and them feeling that they can collect players from all of NKY. It's not all their fault though, parents (such as Mike Mitchell's) buy into this and move their boys in to play football. Everyone who hates Highlands, hates them for those reasons.

Then they hate them for reasons that speak more about the hater than the hated. None of these things are true in the least.
