It seems that this issue, which has sparked so much debate on BGP and elsewhere, will finally get settled one way or the other. Maybe not on Monday, but sometime soon. I've been a member of BGP since 2003 and a BGP follower since 2002, and I can't recall any football-related story that has generated more emotional discussion (on both sides) than the Mike Mitchell eligibility issue and its consequences.

 

Does anyone know if these meetings are open to the public? If so, I wonder if any Highlands supporters will be in attendance?

 

My sources tell me that the issue won't be decided on Monday. It will more than likely be decided at the October KHSAA Board meeting. Highlands will present its case but the KHSAA won't make a decision at the meeting I've been told. With a new Commissioner and new in house counsel on board; with this being a some what off the beaten path request; with the attention of the State Board of Education and some members of the General Assembly on the request; and with the General Assembly having made its strong displeasure towards Mitchell type sanctions well known (they've prohibited the KHSAA from issuing them in the future), the KHSAA is going to carefully consider the request and the points raised by Highlands before it rushes to a decision. Smart move by the KHSAA if what I've been told is true. So any one expecting a decision on Monday will be disappointed. Just relax and take a deep breath. Let's not burn up this board speculating what the decision will be on Monday.

If Highlands does get their wins back, the first game of the year would have been win 800.

I do not see how the Birds could possibly lose a game this year. I do not see a real formidable challenge left on their 2010 schedule.

I can't see anyone on the schedule stopping this team from repeating as State Champs. Defensively they fly to the ball and the only questions on offense appears to be the offinsive line which I'm sure will get better each game. As Dale says every year this team is a reflection of teams before them!!! 20n10.

With respect to keeping track of win totals, I'd say the only organizations that matter are the KHSAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations, and neither of these organizations recognize Highlands' 12 forfeited 'on-the-field' wins from 2004. Perhaps in a month or so, this will change! Stay tuned!

There's a reason the Rocks and Birds are tied atop the heap with 19 rings... Both are great teams with great tradition.... and the scrimmage earlier this year was a real donnybrook.
