NKY.com: Can the Bluebirds go 27-0?

Featured Replies

I know some of the bird fans think the streak will go on forever but like Jbwill states there are lessons learned in losing. Even if the Birds dropped the regular season finale the ultimate goal is 4 peating. I dont think whackem is off with his comments, he makes a valid point. Just because some posters dont want to believe they will ever lose again, it shouldnt dismiss or twist Whackems post. As far as him attending games, he goes to all the home games aand sits through all the blowouts. Imo id like to be able to watch more competetive games and not have to feel like a game is over at the half.

I don't think the winning streak will go on forever ,(NOBODY IN THEIR RIGHT MIND DOES). Who is dismissing or twisting his post ? I asked two valid questions , whats wrong with that ?

I'm glad that he goes to all the home games ,but he might have to leave his back yard to see some more competitive games, like HHS vs Lou. or Cin teams. Personally , I don't care if it's a blowout or not , as long as the birds are on top. :D

I wasn't addressing the streak going on forever, as I agree with you. Whackem's point was that the Birds need to lose one or two to get fired up for the playoffs. That is just silly. Of course there are lessons to be learned in losing, but to claim they need to lose a game or two to get motivated is way off.

You don't HAVE to lose to learn lessons ('08 v. L'Ville Central / '09 v. Bryan Station), but when it eventually DOES COME, looking inward individually AND as a team is VERY beneficial and is one of those times in life that "character" is exhibited. Win with class, lose with more class...just don't make it a habit! LOL!

Tell me your kidding .

Fired up ? Have you ever been to a Highlands game ?

Yes, I particularly remember a flat Bluebird team almost getting laid out by Bryan Station.

and who won that game?

Laid out , is the perfect description of that game. BS had a very athletic and above average team that year. The Birds weren't flat , they were just playing a very good team . Good defenses have a tendancy to make teams look flat. The Birds didn't look too flat in the 4th quarter did they ?

I think they were flat...and BS was jacked up! Birds had chances to put the game away and didn't. (interception to the 6 yd line and come away with no points comes to mind). A stellar 3 minute drill, culminating with a Guidugli to Collinsworth TD strike, finally put a VERY talented BS team away. I do believe the Birds learned a valuable lesson that evening...even though they didn't lose.

I still don't believe the Birds were flat against BS. If they were flat against BS , then they were flat last year while playing and beating Cincinnati St. X . It was a very similar game.

Toughest game on the Birds schedule will be that final game vs Ryle an especially if they cruise through the season undefeated. That will be more exciting than the first 3 playoff games IMO. I hope the Birds come out firing, cant wait to see Towles slinging the pigskin.

The only thing similar between those two games were the fumbles by Connor and Collinsworth. Apart from that, they couldn't be further apart. I've never been to a game that had more electricity than that awesome night.

Agree.:thumb:

I have to agree on last year's game. It has a special place in my heart. I told my son that "Big time players make big time plays on big time games". That whole team came ready to play! I guess now I'm going to have to watch it.

I don't want to beat this "almost dead " horse to death but those two games were very similar. Both opposing teams were physically , much larger than Highlands , heck , some BS players were so big , they probably had their own zipcode. As for Cinti St. X , go to the replay and read the size difference "in the trenches". I seem to recall the difference to be about 60 lbs and about 6 inches across the board. The games were not decided until the very end of the forth quarter and Highlands won both hard fought contests , and there was plenty at stake, vs BS (a playoff game that would end the KY. win streak while not advancing in the playoffs, therefore, they would not have a shot at the altimate goal of a state champioship. This Cinti St. X game had no bearing at all in the Ky. playoff picture , but it was awesome that HHS beat a nationally ranked team , that everyone thought was going to whip HHS, even the reporter covering the game thought it was going to be an X over H blowout.

The reporter was mad because he had to arrive at DCMS. extremely early to get a parking spot ,( "swim club") :D ,(he didn't take the bait ). Then he said he wasn't very happy covering this expected lobsided game after seeing the size difference of the two teams , while they were warming up.

In conclusion , he said it was one of the "coolest post game celebrations that he had ever been a part of " and if your wondering who the reporter was that covered the game , it was Rick Broering ,

Ok, now it's you turn to tell me the differences of the two games in question. LOL :D

I still watch it once a week . ( Do I need help ? )

No' date=' IMO the Bluebirds need to lose one or two in order to get fired up for the latter half of the season that will mostly be spent away from home. If they're not mentally prepared by then, it could be a long drive home from Golden Eagle territory....[/quote']

I've read all the posts on this subject, and keep coming back to what I heard a great coach say, "If you have to lose to learn, you're stupid."
