Actually, as of last year's enrollment numbers Highlands is a 4A school. Not by much, but they were 4A.

Seriously. If you ask anyone from Campbell Co.(Bellevue, Newport, Dayton..etc..) Highlands is disliked far beyond football. I respect their tradition and program but nobody likes people who look down on others. You can call me a hater but Highlands is hated because of who they think they are not who they are. Make no mistake, they are a great program and they deserve respect.

 

Do you also have an imaginary friend ? I talked to many people around the area , they said they love Highlands football. I also asked them about you ,and everybody said that they have never heard of you.

I think Highlands would have to request a special waiver to get to move to a different class, which they obviously would not do. I don't believe the KHSAA will move a team unless they request it or there is a change due to schools closing/opening. And I am pretty sure Highlands was 3A the last time they did the districting. They were allowed to go to 5A because there weren't any other 3A schools within a reasonable distance and travel in 3A would have been oppressive for them. They didn't get to play in 5A just because they wanted to. Others please correct me if wrong but I think that is all accurate.

If they were moved back down to 3a, then it would be a lot tougher to win the state championship IMO. It would be very similar to the old 3a.

That surprises me, I figured 4A would be a little tougher fit with Boyle County, Bell County, Lex Cath, and Lone Oak.

Your understanding of what transpired is spot on correct. There has been, as you mentioned, some speculation as to whether teams will continue to be able to move up. However, I'd have to think that the common sense logic that prevailed when re-alignment last occurred will prevail once again. When you think of it, we only have classes because of the affect that size of school has generally on the quality of football team. It bewilders me when a coach or fan of a bigger school objects to a smaller school moving up. I think the KHSAA understands that logic particularly if through moving up a school can save time and costs and reduce safety risks of long district trips. But we'll see in a few months I guess.

We have plenty of our own talent :irked:. We do have a couple of families that have opted to stay clear of the CC coaching carousel and administration circus to come to a school with strong academic standards.:sssh:
