So assuming CCHS does the same drills, same lifts and puts in the same amount of time as HHS they should see similar results? If not then I guess there is something in the water in Ft. Thomas or the kids there are just naturally better athletes than kids from Cold Spring, Wilder, Highland Heights and Alexandria. I didn't say it was the major factor, but a big one, but if you only get one a year and you can replace a weakest link somewhere that one makes you that much better. I'm done with this because there are too many HHS fans on this forum to argue about this with.

I just don't believe that a few (whatever number that is) students who transfer in make all the difference in the success. Sure, there have been some of those kind of players through the years, but certainly not every year, and more often than not, not a predominant number of players on the team. It just isn't in the numbers that some estimate.

 

Lastly, accepting the notion you propose that the major contributor to success is the high number of outstanding athletes who transfer in vs. locals is a recipe for mediocrity. Whether or not Highlands works harder than everyone else around is really irrelevant and hard to measure. As long as they (players and coaches) consistently work as hard as they can (which they do) in all they do, the results will be there.

That's not to say there aren't other programs that have found similar pieces to the puzzle; but you can't make that blanket statement about all teams. This fallacy that HHS is a "NKY all-star team" is just an excuse not recognize the real reasons for the team's success.

Bingo. :thumb: Heck, I'm still trying to figure out all the all stars we had starting on the team last year from throughout N. Ky. Bruns is one, but beyond him I'm at a loss. Admittedly, the 04 team did have a lot of very good players from SK and CovCath. In 97 and 98 there were Lorenzen and Smith. But those three years are the exception not the norm. Heck those players only account for 2 of the 19 state championships. Again, I'm not saying we haven't benefitted from some very good transfers over the years, I just think 2HC is blowing the transfer thing way out of proportion. Heck, when we won state my senior year, I can't think of one starter on my team that wasn't originally from Ft. Thomas. I guess since we didn't have any transfers we just got lucky that year.

I think you missed my point. I gave no hint as to what the reasoning is behind these parental decisions. If it's athletics then fine. Why would you not raise the question to the schools that are losing these kids, as to why is this happening.

I am one poster that agrees with 2HC in some aspects. I also agree with LN about the transfers not playing a big role in Highlands 19 state championships. However, the transfers has hurt their previous schools more than helped Highlands. A kid like Nevels would have helped out SK tremendously and maybe they start their run well before the Simpson era. That goes for many others....but Beechwood and CovCath are guilty also. And by guilty, i am not implying they are at fault, but they are benefactors of these transfers as well. And once again LN is correct, Highlands has supreme coaches vs. most of NKY. It is the responsibility of the schools to coach and improve their team from within but this becomes more difficult when players of extraordinary talents vacate their "home town" to find "greener" pastures.

My point exactly. If I'm associated with a program that has lost one of these "extaordinary talents", I want to know why. Identify the issue with "my" program, and get it fixed. To just throw up your arms and say well, we lost another one to Highlands, CovCath, or Beechwood, why not take a hard look in the mirror and ask the question, why is this happening? If you don't care then there is no sense bringing it up.

I was not on that team and I do not hate HHS, some of the fans annoy me... I'm not sure what you mean about CCHS playing with them that year. That was one of the worst CCHS teams ever and quite possibly the best HHS team ever who thought anyone was going to play with HHS that year? When I started HHS beat us something like 24-10ish and 60something to 6 when they were led by NKYFL Dixie Raider star Justin Frisk.

Not really, how many players talent wise have the the Camels had the last few years that would have started for HHS? Hard work can make an average talent team good, hard work makes a good talented team great and hard work makes a highly talented team unstoppable. Hard work is only part of the equation.

I agree and it is not an overnight process, it involves community involvment, facilities, youth football and tradition. I think CCHS has a good thing going with the CCYFL modeled after the FTJFBL and I've heard Ryle has started something similar. IMO Ryle is the closet team in NKY to having what HHS has, the coaching staff, community involvement etc

I will listen to arguments about HHS's enrollment numbers when they stop being a northern Kentucky all-star team. :sssh:
