WASHINGTON - The U.S. Supreme Court has turned down a challenge to the Defense Department policy forbidding gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military, granting a request by the Obama administration.

The court said Monday that it will not hear an appeal from former Army Capt. James Pietrangelo II, who was dismissed under the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

The federal appeals court in Boston earlier threw out a lawsuit filed by Pietrangelo and 11 other veterans. He was the only member of that group who asked the high court to rule that the Clinton-era policy is unconstitutional.

This came up at dinner with Dad (retired Navy pilot) on Sunday night. He said that they lost at least 1 or 2 shipmates each year while on long "cruises" because that shipmate would let something like that be known, and the shipmate got pitched over the side. Dad was not joking.

Tough crowd.

Congress must consider that we are fighting also in two wars vs. two religously motivated enemies, openly serving gays could effect the enemies motivation as well.

I hate that argument. They can't hate us any more than they do.

Perhaps we should try it and hope to enrage them more. You know, the tactic where you make your enemy so mad he can't think rationally. It's similar to trash-talking in sports...you try to make your opponent mad, take him off his game and he makes mistakes.

Psychological warfare.
