The "Kentucky Middle School Football Association" held a conference at the Nike Coach of the Year Clinic in Louisville this past weekend. 1st annul Middle School State Playoff system was a huge success. It has a bright future with many teams looking to join this up and coming football season.

Not sure where the kids come from as far as schools but Cov Cath does have 2 MS teams. They have an A and B team which plays in the same league as the Kenton Co and Campbell Co MS.

Lex Cath does not have a MS but does have a MS football team

CovCath does have 2 teams, but they are not A&B teams.

Both teams are split evenly.

4 feeder schools are St Agnes.St Joe's,St Pius and Blessed Sac.

I did not mean to suggest that the talent was not split evenly. They are listed on the scheduals of the other teams they play as A and B so they would know which of the 2 teams they are playing. Last year was the first year for the teams.

Now the teams in that confrence I do not think will ever play in the state playoff system right now due to how that confrence/league handles things.

Scott Co has 3 feeder schools Georgetown, Royal Springs, Scott Co

Pulaski County has one Middle school (Northern Middle) and one Independent (Science Hill) were the kids can choose to go to Somerset or Pulaski.

Jefferson County Public Schools do not have the money for their middle schools to support youth football. They used to, 25 years ago. They leave it to the Optimist, Independent and Catholic leagues to teach their students the fine art of football.

There were 22 Catholic 7th and 8th grade teams last season (18-35 players per team, average was probably 24). Many of these students attend DeSales, Holy Cross, St. Xavier and Trinity as well as Manual, Male, Butler, Ballard, and several other public schools including the Oldham County schools and the Indiana team(s) send theirs to Jeffersonville, Providence, etc. as well as Trinity or St. X.

I am on the same wavelength here. Raceland is a 1A Independent school with a small enrollment. The strength of our program has become the JFL. We have grown each of the past several years and consequently, so has the numbers in Junior High, albeit minimally. The great thing is the quality of players entering High School football due to their exposure at an earlier age. Flag football starts with Kindergarten and some pre-K, depending on their size. So, I don't know that 1 middle school program hurts a High School, as long as the JFL or whatever league(s) out there for younger kids help them develop skills.
