ColonelMike
Lady Colonels came out with fire in their eyes and probably should have won this one. OC pounded the Lady Bearcats on the boards (36-23 for the game) and forced three more turnovers in the first half while holding a confused Anderson team to just 14 first half points. Unfortunately for OC, they shot a paltry 26.7% in the first half, and led just 20-14. A strong third quarter put Anderson back in the game, and AC actually led by three, 28-25, after three. But Oldham re-grouped to take the lead - they led the vast majority of the game - behind 60% shooting in the fourth. Audri Beaudrie had 8 of her 15 in the fourth, and Oldham led by 2 and had the ball with a little over 2 minutes to play. Three consecutive turnovers, however, led to three Anderson County baskets and a FT, giving the visitors a five point lead and ultimately, the win. Lindsey Fultz led Anderson County with 11 points, but was really a non-factor most of the night. Anderson got back into the game largely on the backs of two underclassmen - 6'0" freshman center Sydney Brown came off the bench to score 10 points and grab 5 boards, and 7th grader Eriel McKee came of the bench to score 6. Without those two, Anderson loses this game. Oldham was led by Beaudrie with 15 points, 5'10" junior forward Emily Lape with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and 5'9" Junior center Leah Pehlke, who had 8 points and 12 rebounds. magicfan217
agree with Mike, Anderson didn't deserve to win this one. They played poorly, and Oldham really put forth a scrappy effort. Anderson certainly didn't look ready to challenge SK tonight...... The bench was big for Anderson. Brown and Mckee played great minutes. Mckee (a 7th grader) saw her first significant action of the season tonight and really took advantage. If you can believe it she wasn't even the leading scorer for the middle school team this year....lol....Anderson has a load of young talent at the middle school. Makenzie Cann (another 7th grader) actually led the 8th grade team in scoring this past season, with Mckee not far behind. Their middle school teams went something like 50-1 this past season. Anderson loses a ton of seniors this year, but tonight showed they have the talent to keep it going, albeit young talent, next season. Anderson will likely start two 8th graders next season (Cann and Mckee), and could come off the bench with another.
getalife
Did McKee have an older sister who played a few years ago?
magicfan217
Did McKee have an older sister who played a few years ago? yea.....Erin Mckee and her brother, Eric, won 8th region player of the year a few years back. Athletic Family. Like I said earlier, Anderson is loaded with really young talent. They actually start two 7th graders and one 6th grader on JV....and they are 7-0. Brown is a freshman, and is the old maid of the bunch, haha. Anyone who has seen her play knows she's got enormous potential as well. Cann, Mckee and Brown are going to be quite the trio in the near future....
Sportster
Great game last night!!! Oldham played very hard. Watch out for this team in tournament play.
Mr. Athletics
Did they play in that really old gym at Oldham? If so, that is a real tough place to play. Last time I was there the heat didn't work and the floor looked really slick.
LieutenantDan
They did and it was freezing. It's always hard to play a bad team and come back the next night and play a better team. Not to take anyway from Oldham, but Anderson didn't look themselves. That being said, Oldham is getting better. Mr. Athletics
Why does they Oldham play their home games in that gym? It needs some serious remodeling imo.
getalife
Why does Oldham play their home games in that gym? It needs some serious remodeling imo. Agreed. I froze in there a couple of years ago. Kept my coat on the entire game. If I remember correctly it was rather dark too.
LieutenantDan
That being said, I'd use it too if it was to my advantage.
Lunatic1
I thought that the girls needed to complain about title IV and not having reasonably comparable facilities as the boys.. then someone told me they want to play there.
ColonelMike
In Oldham County, this (the original OCHS gym, built in 1953) is the historic home of the Lady Colonels. Holds about 750. Voted third most difficult place to win in KY girls basketball in the mid-80s by coaches. Lady Colonels won something like 11 of 15 region titles from 1976 through 1991, with one state SF finish, one runner up (88) and one title (86). When crowded, it's an extraordinarily LOUD gym, although it wasn't so loud on Friday night as I expected. Lots of sentiment in OC regarding this gym. Many times over the years, it's been suggested that the ladies play more games in the newer gym (built in early 70s), but the Lady Colonels have always rejected it. The gym needs renovation, but the board has had to put construction funds in many other projects in the district, including almost rebuilding North Oldham HS' athletic facilities (brand new football field and gym), building South Oldham a new baseball field, renovating OCHS' football field and building a new football / baseball fieldhouse, massive remodeling of OCHS proper, and building new schools (Locust Grove Elementary just finished, and the new Crestwood Elementary about to open). So funds have been sparse, to say the least. But as long as the plaque hangs on the wall - dedicated last year - declaring the gym to be the "Dave Weedman Gymnasium", this gym will likely remain the home of the Lady Colonels. (Weedman coached the Lady Colonels during the glory years and just retired as principal) Regarding the game: Brown is a beast. Moves surprisingly well for a girl her size. Oldham really had no answer for her. Anderson lost ground every time she left the game. And McKee has moves that are well beyond her years. Frightening for 8th region opponents... LieutenantDan
Anderson has a nice group of young kids. It will be interesting to see how they develop, especially since the numbers are down in the classes ahead of them.

Thanks for the update, CM. It is still no excuse for not having heat or the floor not being clean.
ColonelMike
Thanks for the update, CM. It is still no excuse for not having heat or the floor not being clean. It's a cold gym, but there is heat. Unfortunately, the gym isn't well insulated. Truth be told, I don't find the gym uncomfortable at all, but many people complain of it being cold. The locker rooms, however, ARE cold. As for the floor, that's just plain wrong. The floor is in fine shape. Someone on this thread indicated that they thought it looked slick. It isn't.
