It won't be long until we have some good 8th Region games to go to! To me, it's SKLP and everyone else. #2 - #10 could all change over the next few months. I doubt these picks are worth much, but it's fun to read about. 1. Simon Kenton - they are far and away the most talented team in the 8th. It would be surprising if anyone got within 20 points of them. 2. South Oldham - they have one of the favorites for 8th Region player of the year, and a solid #2 scorer. It might be enough for the Dragons to be in this spot. 3. Woodford County - they return everyone from a really solid team. In addition, they return an all-region talent with Gordon. 4. Walton Verona - they return one of the elite scorers in the 8th in Logue, plus have a talented young group coming up. 5/6. Spencer/Anderson - Has graduation finally caught Anderson Co? Losing Johnson and two other senior starters has to hurt the Bearcats. Spencer has some graduation losses as well, but seemed to be deeper than Anderson last season. 7. Grant - Of all my picks, this is the one I'm probably too low on. Grant beat a lot of the teams above, and return Ginn. 8/9 Owen/Gallatin - this will be my favorite match-up in the 8th this year. Owen lost their PG, but return a lot. Gallatin returns the house. I can't wait to watch these two go at it. 10. Oldham - this is another pick that I don't feel good about. They have a really strong young bunch that could figure it out sooner than later. By March, this pick might look BAD.

I have seen her play before. She’s an old school point guard. Congrats to her.

You could make a strong case that Spencer is currently the #1 team in the region with Niece being out.

How would Anderson be the favorite? Spencer brings everyone back and adds Conley.

Anderson was hit hard by graduation. It will be interesting to see how they respond.

I think the 8th will be very competitive with the following being my top 5: 1) Simon Kenton. They are loaded and a top 10-15 team. 2) Trimble. Lots of talent coming back, and will be a match-up nightmare. 3) Walton Verona. They bring most everyone back, with who might be the pre-season POY. 4) Shelby. Martin is the toughest player to match-up with in the region. The supporting cast is very underrated. 5) Collins. You certainly could make a case for Williamstown, but Collins returns everyone from a team that nearly won 20 games.

No disrespect, but Anderson is awful small and inexperienced to be rated that high.

6th: Butler, Bullitt East, and Mercy are all top 10 worthy. It will be a battle to come out of there. 8th: Shelby Co. and Walton are the front runners, with Shelby probably getting the nod due to their overwhelming size. But, watch out for Simon. 10th: GRC is loaded and will be a top 5 team this year.

Bosse was a nice player, but I think they are bringing everyone else back. They have the talent to beat anyone in KY.

SK is a legit top 10 team.

Debating who is/was number 2 is like debating who's the skinniest kid at fat camp. Does it really matter? Marion was far and away the best team in the state. ND played in the championship game and deserves tons of credit for their run. However, if they (or anyone else for that matter) drew Marion in the first round, the season would have ended there. Point is, any team in front of Marion was losing, regardless of the spot in the bracket.

Marion is really, really good. They are top 5 in the nation for a reason.

It was one of the best high school games you will see. Both teams gave everything they had.

The All A is a great tournament for smaller schools that are playing with kids who have come through their system. For those that go out and bring in what they need, it's a joke.

The idea of "unbeatable" teams is almost comical. I think Marion and Manual certainly stand out. However, a bad shooting night and a really good night from another team, and you get beat. That's why they play the game. Look no further to the NFL and the unbeatable Packers. Upsets happen all the time. That's why IMO that sports are so fun to watch. You really never know.

If the four you mention win their districts, there is a HUGE disadvantage to having to play Collins or Simon Kenton in the first round.

I understand what you are saying, but there is no way to really regulate. If I was a parent, and a coach was trying to recruit my child, what makes me think they won't recruit over them? Obviously, loyalty is not a big thing to those people. Its sad that the 8th is pretty strong again, and this is the topic. Just my two cents...

But, where did she go to kindergarten????? This is getting a little silly. Owen Co. was a better team that night. Luckily, we have a full season to see who ends up being the top dog of the 8th.

Gayheart is obviously one of the top 5 players in the region. However, let's slow down with McMurtrey. She is a very talented player, but I think that might be a little unrealistic. Furthermore, there is NOTHING more important than winning. There are no bragging rights when you get your head kicked in.

5 of the top 8 players in the region are on one team? If so, I assume no one will get within 30 of Ashland... OR, there might be a little "homerism" going on.

Great hire for SL! Coach Davis is one of the top young coaches in the state.
