How about the matchup between Gayheart and Mcmurtrey, probably the best best player in the region against a top 5 player, should offer some good basketball !

Will be a good matchup. Gayhart very good, McMurtrey one of the top up and coming young players in the 8th. Can't imagine they would guard each other though.

Interesting question, but to be honest, the only thing that matters is the outcome of the game, isn't it?

not really, there is a learning experience , bragging rights, indivudual stats........ a little more than just winning.

Really ... "a little more than just winning???" Wow, I guess the KHSAA folks who are planning the this year's Sweet-16 should be put on alert that winning is not important anymore.

Gayheart is obviously one of the top 5 players in the region. However, let's slow down with McMurtrey. She is a very talented player, but I think that might be a little unrealistic. Furthermore, there is NOTHING more important than winning. There are no bragging rights when you get your head kicked in.

McMurtrey is rated as #7 in this years Cats Pause and will probably remain that or higher in most pre season polls so I don't think that is unrealistic at all. As far as Gayheart she's a little better than top 5. IMO and many others as proven by her being named Player of the Year last year she is the best player in the region hands down. I would agree with you in that for these 2 players there team comes first so anything other than a win means nothing.

To project anyone as "hands down" the best player seems a bit biased to me but thats why we have so much fun as fans. The best player can and should make her team alot better and sometimes that means giving up a little in the stat dept. Therefore i choose to give the nod to the player on the best team. Who cares how good a player you have if your not at Diddle. Having watched quite a bit of summer ball I saw alot of improvment from some girls in this region. The girls that have been the best or was the best last year may very well prove to be the best this year but i do say they better not rest too easily.

Concerning past posts about Gayheart and Whitfield. I did not have a chance to see Gayheart play this summer but i did see Whitfield play and she was absloutely a beast. Though very good last year she seemed much imporved during the summer but sometimes you just have to get into the right slots to shine.

That is an answer I would offer as well. Far as I know I've not seen Gayheart play at all but I have seen Whitfield and her play this summer was very impressive.

I'll get to see her again in a couple weeks or so in a scrimmage and am looking forward to that.

I have had a chance to see Gayheart a couple of times this summer she looks like she's taken her game to a even higher level. Her basketball IQ is off the charts. I did not see Whitfield this summer but I'm sure as you say she has improved as well. They are both great players let's just say we are lucky to have them both in the 8th region. I also think that McMurtrey will surprise people by how much she's elevated her game during the off season. IMO she will be top 5 for sure when the voting is finished at end of the year.

McMurtrey must of had quite a good summer for sumrmakesplyrs to think she will knock Gayheart out of the top 5.

That's not what I said Gayheart is rated #1 McMurtrey is rated #7. I think McMurtrey will finish in the top 5 at the end of the year. If she does it won't be Gayheart's place that she takes.

Well you might be right sumrmakesplyrs. Someone 2 through 5 could knock Gayheart out then McMurtrey could take someone else's spot thereby not directly taking Gayheart's spot. But seems to me like you should wait a few games into the season before counting anyone out or in.
