I think I would move Anderson County up to #2.

AC too low. Maybe have them 1 and WV as 2 but at the end of the year, I still think AC is the team to beat.

You are probably right. I forgot to add that the top 3-4 could be somewhat interchangable throughout the season. Owen County should probably be #4, but giving them benefit of doubt at the moment.

Just a early opinion as I have seen a few games from each team. Hopefully I see more of them and my opinion could change for what it's worth.

1 South Oldham- Whitfield can create havoc on both ends. Needs their role players to hit shots and Whitfield and Dye stay out of foul trouble. Very good defensively and playing better lately.

2 Anderson- McKee and Brown compliment each other well and are tough to handle in the paint. Cann's length and shooting add to that.

3. Owen- Gayheart can dominate games and makes her teammates better. ALL players can shoot the ball. Solid defensively. Might be the best half court team offensively.

4. Walton- Big inside. Sandlin has stepped it up. They play smart

5. Simon Kenton- Quick guard that can shoot in Stepheson and Owings. Good defensively

6. Collins- As Wells goes they go. Cardwell is a very nice player

7. Gallatin- Young and can shoot. On a hot night may be ahead of Collins

8 Oldham- Missing Melton and struggles defensively

9. Grant- physical and improved

10. Trimble- havent seen them. A guess at this point.

Good luck to all the girls. As mentioned 1-4 are interchangeable and possibly 5-8

Even though Owen has already defeated Walton this season?

Owen might very well be the best team in the 8th. Splitting hairs at this point.

I think any of the top 4 teams can win it. It will be a matter of who gets hot and is playing the best at tournament time. Anyone of the 4 teams can beat the other on any given night.

I see Walton over break and think they are the best and most balanced team. Then I think Owen has beaten then at Owen. South and Anderson are very talented and hard to deal with. So I think you summed it up best madman.

Ho, ho, ho - Merry Christmas everybody! Yes, the 8th region IS wide open with four teams, and another team may be mentioned as a contender - Collins. They are very capable of knocking off any team in in the 8th region on a given night, and maybe more than one team in a week. The week preceding the Sweet-16 will feature some great games in Lawrenceburg - mark in down on the March calendars.

Concerning Walton, Anderson, South Oldham and Owen, perhaps winning the eighth region tournament could come down to who gets the better draw. Each of these agreed upon top four in the region represent a different district. Is it possible that 3 of the 4 get put in one side of the regional tournament brackets? If so, this would create an inconvenient tough first round game for two of these teams and cause one team to have to beat the other 3 consecutively in order to win the region - that is assuming that any of the other three does not get upset. That would be a very tough road. If this is possible, I would definitely like to be the one of the four that is in a bracket a part from the other three.

Assuming that all four win their district, it is not possible for three of these teams to be on the same side of the bracket. Each winner will play a loser. Four teams in the upper bracket and four teams in the lower bracket.

Thanks for the info. I suppose that means that each of those four can control their own placement then and it makes districts even more important. Take care of business in districts or else get an even tougher road in the regional.

If the four you mention win their districts, there is a HUGE disadvantage to having to play Collins or Simon Kenton in the first round.

Bingo, Lt. Dan! Perfect insight, perfectly stated. As it stands right now, these six teams that have been discussed figure into the picture.

But there will be some twists and turns along the road from now until late February that none of us can fully anticipate. For some unexplainable reason, I believe that fate, luck, whatever will seemingly play larger role in this year's 8th region outcome than it has in recent years - at least that's my New Year's prediction. We'll just have to wait and see as it all unfolds.
