Bracken Co. Stepping stone coach?

Recommended Posts

How do people feel about a system that hires coaches that stay for a couple years and then head out for a different job? I was talking to a friend from Brooksville, and once again, it seems that the school has hired a coach that is not willing to move into the county. And on top of that--he's a first year coach! :fire: What will it take to get a dedicated coach at BCHS?

Is it a requirement for the head coach to live in the county? I dont know the circumstances but maybe he hasnt found a place in the county he likes.

Unforutunately it's probably going to take a local Bracken grad who is willing to put the program first instead of his career advancement and is willing to be happy living in his home county and get the respect of the community, parents, and players in the lower grades that are going to help developword a stable and consistant program that will be a contender year in and year out. It's a shame that money(but who does'nt need it especially teachers) and for lack of a better word, selfish pride career wise, gets in the way of some schools having a stable coach and program.

I agree wholeheartedly!

An alum who bleeds blue, can earn the respect of the players and community and be relatively competitive with the other smaller 10th Region programs.

Bracken County High School is not a dead end. Like any small school they have their ups and downs, with more downs than ups. The Polar Bears of 1997-98 won the 10th Region "A" Tournament over an excellent Brossart team and a standout Paris team. Were it not for Fleming County having their best team since 1954 that year, they (Bracken County and Brossart) would have pretty much battled it out for the 10th Region Championship that year.

It's also a two way street, the players from the county need to stay home and play for the Polar Bears and those who start as freshmen need to make a full four year commitment.

Tough task, but not impossible.

Good luck to the new coach, but he does leave, what about Brad Riley?

If he's just been hired, why not give him a chance first and not assume.

His coaching abilities, shouldn't have anything to do with where he resides.

Give the guy a chance, Coach Breeze is coming home, he grew up in Maysville and to my understanding is in the process of buying a home in Maysville. He has family living in Maysville, he has a young baby which in turn probably translates to someone close in family keeping his child, so he is just 20 minutes away from BCHS. The young talent that Bracken has if patient will benefit under Coach Breezes system and the players must set their minds toward the committment of his system. Oh and it wouldn't hurt for the Bracken faithful and the town of Brooksville to buy into that thought as well.

Update: Coach Breeze and his family closed on their home of choice just this past Friday. Congrats and best of luck in your career Coach Breeze.

Just because a coach doesnt want to coach in Bracken Co forever doesnt make them a bad coach or person. Coach Fisher left the team after going 1-23 and went into administration but is still there, Coach McKinney did 2 tours, Coach Hammonds stayed 3 years and built the program back up to be respected by most all 10th region teams. Coach Fite had one good year and a down year- like most Bracken County programs they are up and down. In these economic times coaches should do what is best for thier kids and coach the kids they have when they have them to the best of their ability. Just because a home grown person applies for the job doesnt mean they are best person- might not want that person there after 3 years and they dont want to leave and then you have bad blood for years and so on. Lets keep this to 2009 year and what the coach can do this year and how he coaches- if he comes in and wins great- if he doenst then give him time and see. Home grown doesnt mean best!!!

** ALso agreed - if Bracken could keep thier own from going to other counties then they might be better off- but for most of the time they cannot.
