They have 1,000 more confirmed positives than KY and they have one less death than KY.

As of today.

People have still been going to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge.

IMO, I think their timing is perfect. Their numbers now show that they need to go to Plan B to curb it. Meanwhile for the past two and a half weeks we have been living in our bubbles, waiting for some shoe to drop, that may or may not happen for days or weeks ahead.

I honestly believe that had we implemented the prevention measures beginning tomorrow (if our numbers support it) our state of affairs would be better off for it. Nobody is saying that we wouldn't be washing our hands or even "social distancing." BUT until something tells me that it has invaded my space we didn't need to stop living three weeks ago.

Tennessee has it right. They've probably been laughing their tail ends off at us for the past three weeks, and they win. Tennessee Plus Three Weeks of good life - Us Minus Three Weeks of paranoia, lost wages, lost income, lost learning and lost co-existing.

Here is my biggest complaint about the whole thing. This thing doesn't travel through the air. I don't have it. My neighbor doesn't have it, no one in my subdivision has it, and nobody in our town has it, AND we won't have it until someone brings it in to us. Yet we have created this social mis-trust and feeling that the stuff is being spread my me, my neighbors and our townsfolk - Ain't happening.

Do as Tennessee has done and react to the numbers as they present themselves. Learn from Italy and respect it and don't let it overtake us, but don't run, hide, hoard, and restrict ourselves until the actual need arises - but then we are three weeks too late to do something like that.

Let the DISLIKES begin.

American hardheadedness is primary to blame, and will be to blame for our slow reaction. But China’s secrecy contributed to this lackadaisical attitude. We all knew China didn’t report the correct numbers, and this week it was reported that truckloads of thousands of urns were delivered to funeral homes for families to pick up. One funeral home in Wuhan received up to 7000 urns to disperse.

I want to think if we knew that 10k-100k Chinese people died we wouldn’t be more concerned and more active.

Agree 100%.

I saw that same article or something close to it about the morgues in China ordering double the amount of urns they normally order.

It doesn’t matter at this point.

I’ve been given my papers to travel throughout the state with explicit permission to present to the police when I get pulled over so I am protected from any future reactions.

I still work everyday and pull in a steady paycheck. I ain’t losing wages for real. Going to miss how that OT padded my check but I still get a full check. I’ll save a ton of money over the next few months.

My grocery stores have been stocked and I can get black market toilet paper and paper towels if needed.

No one I know has gotten sick. I hope it stays that way but hell, it’s just the flu. I don’t know anyone who has died from the flu so hell, we good.

May as well bring back sports. We good.

I just traveled 60 miles to get to my friend’s house. I’ll catch up with y’all tomorrow.

Wash your hands!!!!!!!

So what if TN is wrong...they got three fun weeks, but thousands die. Heck of a trade off.

If KY is wrong we just look stupid. That’s it.

I’ll take the latter.

Italy did little to start with and has had to go into complete lockdown and still can’t stop the spread. Happening in Spain right now.

Focus on the death numbers, not the number of cases. One month or so after the virus arrives, the deaths start. The deaths would have been noticed just like the Dr. in China noticed them. I trust science and the facts we have all seen many times over now in many places. No cases were here in KY in November or December. If they were, noticeable deaths would have been happening in December or January.

Unless doctors thought the cases were the flu or pneumonia.

But I think you are correct in the spread. I think it is just getting here. The spread is exploding not because we have more tests, but people who have symptoms are being tested. We don’t have the tests for random testing yet.

You keep dodging the question about what numbers would have to be for you to think we should be distancing.

So apparently, you are ok and willing to sacrifice a few (and potentially many) lives for a few extra weeks of fun. In the short term, yes things would have been ok. But the long term effect of not shutting things down early, could have had huge negative ramifications. I can deal with losing some money. I can deal with missing sports. I cannot deal as well with people I know, or even myself getting sick and possibly dying. The method of waiting for the bad numbers to come, is like the old saying of closing the barn door after the horses get out. By the time it happens, it's already too late to have any impact.

So what if TN is wrong...they got three fun weeks, but thousands die. Heck of a trade off.

The thing is, it's clear based on looking at how this thing has spread in Italy, Spain, and places like New York, that we aren't wrong. The only way we look stupid is by going normally about our business.

UK (the other UK) has take COVID-19 off its list of High consequence infectious diseases as of March 19

High consequence infectious diseases (HCID) - GOV.UK

As of 19 March 2020, COVID-19 is no longer considered to be a high consequence infectious diseases (HCID) in the UK.

The 4 nations public health HCID group made an interim recommendation in January 2020 to classify COVID-19 as an HCID. This was based on consideration of the UK HCID criteria about the virus and the disease with information available during the early stages of the outbreak. Now that more is known about COVID-19, the public health bodies in the UK have reviewed the most up to date information about COVID-19 against the UK HCID criteria. They have determined that several features have now changed; in particular, more information is available about mortality rates (low overall), and there is now greater clinical awareness and a specific and sensitive laboratory test, the availability of which continues to increase.

The Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens (ACDP) is also of the opinion that COVID-19 should no longer be classified as an HCID.

Agree 100%.

I saw a couple of things today that indicate there are as many as 21 million cell phone customers in China that are no longer on the grid. There when this all started and poof, gone on the other side. That’s terrifying.

That doesn’t match what is going on since they just started to average 200+ a day.

Is there a greater consequence than death?

Britain had some really controversial plans to start out with. I wonder if some of that resistance isn’t still around.

And the deaths? If it was here months ago, why weren't people dying?

Do we know that people weren't dying? And to be clear you said months ago, I never did.
