Now Kenton Co. officially has its first (that we know of) Covid-19 death. It’s officially hit “home”.

Which case was it, or have they released that information?

66 year old female.

Those are the growth numbers we have been fearful of.

Incubation periods throw all of those numbers off though. This post makes me no more or less alarmed.

Right. The numbers were always going to take this kind of jump once testing because more available. It’s not as if 1000 new people got it within 48 hours.

Numbers still increasing in KY in spite of restrictions.

At least the death cases haven't grown much at all.

So many of us are following and doing our best, but while I walked my dog today, I saw group of five landscapers and two homeowners discuss the implementation of new mulch in a small circle. Some of us are doing our part, many are not.

As of yesterday it looks like Tennessee had 7 deaths statewide because of COVID-19.

While I'm sure much has been done voluntarily, this is the first weekend that Tennessee restaurants are going to the drive-thru/carry-out option.

Tennessee has not participated with Ohio and Kentucky in the plus-two week shutdown, group restrictions and stay-at-home mandate that their neighbors to the north have experienced. It will be interesting to see how their numbers compare to ours as a result, in the long run.

Kind of expected, we had zero testing taking place a few weeks ago. Start testing for something that's already here and the numbers are bound to soar. It's obviously still spreading at a decent clip but I think it was also here for a while beforehand.

And the deaths? If it was here months ago, why weren't people dying?

They have 1,000 more confirmed positives than KY and they have one less death than KY.

As of today.

People have still been going to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge.

Some KY border folks have been sneaking over and eating in the TN restaurants over the past few weeks. No doubt dragging some infection back with them.

Right now TN’s death count is an anomaly.

Yep.

It’s just the flu. No biggie.

Numbers doubling in days? More testing means more numbers. No biggie.

Screw it. We good. Gonna go hang with some friends today.

American hardheadedness is primary to blame, and will be to blame for our slow reaction. But China’s secrecy contributed to this lackadaisical attitude. We all knew China didn’t report the correct numbers, and this week it was reported that truckloads of thousands of urns were delivered to funeral homes for families to pick up. One funeral home in Wuhan received up to 7000 urns to disperse.

I want to think if we knew that 10k-100k Chinese people died we wouldn’t be more concerned and more active.

We see because we have testing... we didn't then.

Focus on the death numbers, not the number of cases. One month or so after the virus arrives, the deaths start. The deaths would have been noticed just like the Dr. in China noticed them. I trust science and the facts we have all seen many times over now in many places. No cases were here in KY in November or December. If they were, noticeable deaths would have been happening in December or January.
