Hoping Miles will be back to action for W-V....

 

This should be a fun game. I know it's December - and a lot will happen between now and March - but this is a great matchup.

I would venture to say Miles will not be back for this game, they will be lucky to get him back in December. More than likely looking at a January return which is in his best interest.

Glad to see these 2 playing each other this year. Without Miles and it being at Oldham you would have to think Oldham wins this one.

Oldham offense (81ppg) against Walton's defense (38ppg). Oldham offense wins, but should be a good game.

To elaborate further on proudgrandpa's comment, above.... Oldham leads the region in points per game at 81.7 per contest..... W-V leads the region in defensive points allowed per game at 38.0. Something has to give....

 

Miles, indeed, will miss this game I am told. (too bad! That would have certainly added to the drama!)

 

These two teams have met just 5 times since the 2000-1 season, with Oldham winning all five. The most recent meeting came on 1/22/2013, when Oldham won, 72-48, in Buckner. The previous four meetings all came between 2003-2007.

 

Both coaches are in their fifth seasons at their school, and one could argue that these are two of the top young coaches in the region. Coy Zerhusen of Oldham County (105-27 .795) is the winningest coach in the region in the past four years, and has won four consecutive district titles. His 2014-15 team was 8th region runner-up.

 

Grant Brannen has had a tremendous influence on Walton's fortunes in his four complete seasons to date. His first team went just 4-20 - worst in the 8th region that season - but his teams have improved each successive season, going 14-14 in 2014-15, 18-11 in 2015-16, and tied for the most wins in the region last year with a 26-7 mark. Last year's team was district 32 champs - only the second district title for Walton since before 2000. Last year's team also won the 8th region all-A and reached the second round of the state All-A Classic.

For Walton, Miles certainly has gotten some POY talk, but without him on the floor, the main Bearcat getting POY attention will be Brennan Stanley, the transfer guard from Williamstown, who averaged over 18 ppg last year for the Demons.

He can Rebound, Shoot the ball, help alleviate pressure, guard 4 different positions on the defensive end. Statistics do not always show the value of a player. A college team that will give Zach a chance, will be pleasantly surprised with his performance. He is a Winner!

No disrespect meant to Zach. You are correct in everything you state except that I will be surprised. I have seen Zach play and he is one of the best in the region, IMO. He will especially be important to WV tonight due to his size and mobility. Not many 6'5" guys in the region who move like he can.

 

I simply didn't have time to mention each and every player that plays for Oldham County and Walton-Verona in the earlier (long) post that are top-tier players. Nor am I intending to slight anyone by not mentioning them.

 

I also didn't mention Zach Larimore of Oldham County, who was all-region last season and received votes for POY in the pre-season polling.
