Highlands 41 Lloyd Memorial 30

Final

Two teams that played methodically the entire game.

Not much to report both teams seemed to be content passing the ball looking for good shots.

Hardly any penetration the entire game.

A win is a win! Well done Birds! Who played well?

True in the 1st qtr as Lloyd didnt have anyone over 6'2 it seemed.

Turner hit some shots in 2nd half.

Houliston made all of his FT's.

I was surprised Niko Carter didnt show more in this game. He seemed to be content just passing the ball off and not even trying to score the ball. He didnt show much quickness at all. Seems to have packed it in already.

huh?

It was commentary on one's desire to "get their check" and go see something else.

Two offensively-challenged teams who, by Q's description, never attacked is not something to watch unless your child is playing.

Correct and a sad crowd for Lloyd even on Sr Night for the Girls game that followed.

Alot of Bird fans were checking smartphones during this one looking for updates of the Holmes vs NCC game.

Point Guard play continues to haunt the Birds. Late in 4th qtr point guard can't get ball across half court and gets a 10 second call in a one on one clear out situation.

True controlled the backboard. Turner and Granotte played well. But overall there is too much thinking before shots. Houliston didn't shoot that much as evidenced by no field goals.

Team still plays hard

Disagree, that was one call. Had him beat up the court all night, just hesitated on his initial move and it cost him. That was a ridiculously fast 10 seconds as well. How many turnovers did the PG have in the game?

The problem is the program has not developed a Point Guard in the past 4 yrs whatsoever. This offseason all they did was talk about how Witte was going to be the PG because of his size and strength. The entire pre-season they ran Karl Hinkel there and Witte at the 4.

15 games into the season they abandon that theory and put Witte at the PG spot where he has never played mind you. He is a natural 2 and has prospered at the 4 spot the past 2 yrs because of his ability to mix it up and strength near the basket.

Now his job is to get it up the court and make one pass, go stand on the other side of the court and watch.

Maybe if the staff would have utilized him in the Summer/pre-season at that spot instead of throwing him out there 15 games in he wouldnt have gotten that one 10 second call.

As far as thinking before shots, you are right. Those kids are gun shy and have been all season. The ball is passed around numerous times and there are some possessions where we dont even get shot off.

One qtr earlier in the year we had more turnovers than shots, in fact that has probably happened more often than not.

Just a few more games.

So you are agreeing with me. HHS has been plagued all year by the lack of a point guard. The two kids playing point would be better served playing the 2 guard.

I am confused, what two kids playing the point would be better served playing the 2 guard? and why do you say that? IMO Hinkel and Buten are the only two point guards in the program and both have been injured at various times throughout the year.
