Nussbaum was out of control in this game. Beechwood ran mostly the wildcat offense with Nussbaum at QB. The Tigers could not contain Dixie's QB Moore. They had pressure on him all night and he almost always managed to scramble long enough to make a play. Tigers led the whole way but Dixie kept fighting to stay in the game. I can see how Dixie beat Conner. Brossart is doing a good job with a young team but it is all about Moore. Good ball game. It is always nice when a 1A school beats one of the big schools so good win for the Tigers.

Great win for the Tigers, Nussbaum was back to his old form, which is vitally important if the Tigers are going to make a deep run in the playoffs. Drew Moore = REAL DEAL, that kid is a player, plain and simple. For a sophmore he showed poise well beyond his years. This rivalry will continue to offer great games for the next several years.

You are correct, Brossart is doing good things with Dixie, they are going to be tough in 6A over the next few years.

Good game. Nussbaum ran hard. Dixie had both middle backers out for this game. Owens had a couple strong carries. Since this is his first game since surgery on collar bone. With a tandem of Owens Caple (out) and Rodenhausen Dixie will be able to set up the pass with the threat of a run.

Here is your game report:

Beechwood received the opening kickoff and it didn't take long for them to get on the board. Under 2 minutes into the game, Max Nussbaum playing QB in the wildcat formation went 63 yards for a touchdown. Miles Sletto's extra point gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead at 10:07 to go in the first quarter. Dixie went 3 and out and the Tigers marched right back down field on their second possession, starting at their own 37. Nussbaum once again ran it in for the score, this time from 36 yards out. 14-0 Beechwood with 5:41 left. Dixie came right back on their second possession. They moved down field in less than 3 minutes and scored on a 33 yard pass play from QB Drew Moore to senior Casey Cox. Schulte's extra point made the score 14-7 with 2:59 left. Beechwood started their next drive from their own 35 and the drive continued into the second quarter.

The Tigers drive stalled at the 15 and they missed wide right on a 25 yard field goal try. Dixie could not generate offense and was forced to punt. The Tigers started on their 25 and picked up first downs on a couple 3rd down plays. Then Nussbaum exploded again for a TD from 51 yards out. 21-7 Tigers at 3:50 left. The Colonels started on their own 23 and continued to move the ball. However, Jason Suchanek intercepted a pass with 1:08 to go at about the 15 and returned it all the way to the Dixie 35 before being forced out of bounds. The Tigers converted a 4th down to get to the 10 but could not score as Nussbaum threw an interception with 8 seconds left to Ben Owens at the 3. The half ended with the Tigers leading 21-7.

Dixie came out strong to start the second half. They started at their 20 and moved pretty easily down field. Owens scored on a 4 yard TD run with 8:19 to go and the score was 21-14. Beechwood started at their 29 and put together a long drive as well. Nussbaum drove into the end zone from 1 yard out with 2:24 to go. The XP was no good ... 27-14 Tigers.

Dixie's next drive went into the 4th quarter. The Tigers forced a punt but Dixie rushed their punt team on the field and snapped the ball while Beechwood was trying to get their punt return team on field. It was 4th and 4 at the 45 and that penalty gave Dixie a first down. The Colonels took advantage and marched on down field for a 1 yard TD run by Owens at the 7:20 mark. 27-21. The Tigers were in danger of letting this one get away. Their drive started on the 25 and they faced 3rd and 10. Nussbaum threw a ball about 30 yards down field that Suchanek came back to catch. Suchanek then made a nice move, slipped up the sideline and turned on the jets to outrun a couple Dixie defenders and score on a 75 yard reception. The Tigers went for 2 but failed ... 33-21 with 6:05 to go. Dixie wasn't finished. They converted a long gain on a screen pass to Joe Radenhausen to get in scoring position. Moore then worked his magic on a scramble that the Tigers defended perfectly but could not catch him, first and goal inside the 5. The Tigers made them work for it but Darion Washington scored on a 2 yard run with 2:42 to go. XP good, 33-28. Dixie tried to bloop the onside kick but it was fair caught by Cameron Lane at the 35. Beechwood lined up in the power wishbone formation, ran it over the Colonels for a couple first downs and was able to run out the clock. Final score 33-38

Nussbaum had 22 carries for 283 yards and have over 100 yards passing the ball.

This was the Max Nussbaum show...plain and simple. Kid accounted for almost 400 yards of total offense...by himself! At the half he had 10 carries for 179 yards and 3 TDs. You can catch the replay at Nkysports.com under our webcasts link.

For Dixie, Drew Moore made a couple mistakes but overall played one hell of a game. Not too many kids have the ability to get away from and out run Nussbaum and Drew was doing it all night. Kid is going to be a player. Reminds me of a bigger Duran Jefferson...minus the off the field issues and a better passer.

Moore is already a very good player. He will surely get even better as he and his team mates gain experience and continue to mature. Almost all of Dixie's playmakers are sophomores and juniors.

Both teams are somewhat young. Neither is senior dominated like most years.

Nuss simply owned the game. Around 400 yards on the ground and accounted for all 5 beechwood scores. Not to mention he was in just about every defensive play for beechwood. i am curious to see his entire stat line both offense and defense for the game. Anyone have insight on possible colleges? Have heard interest from UK, UC, and EKU. Whatever school ends up getting him is getting the real deal. The hit he laid on Dixie's tight end gave me the chills. Kudos to the tight end for holding on to the ball.

As for Dixie, I was impressed with Moore especially for being just a sophomore. It seemed like every time beechwood applied pressure Moore squeaked his way out of it for positive gains. He only made one bad decision by throwing across field and getting picked by suchanek. This kid is going to continue to get better. His poise in the pocket is truly outstanding. Will be something to watch next 2 years.

Dixie missing their 2 inside LB's really hurt them in this game. I would guess 85% of the rushing yards were between the tackles.

Nussbaum was very impressive as expected. However, I was really impressed with the Thomas kid. He does not go down easy.

Beechwood really needs to work on the passing game if they want to go deep into the playoffs. They didn't have to throw last night, but when they did, it wasn't pretty.
