I believe Oaks was originally a big day for Louisville natives since Derby is obviously an event for the elite to come into town and enjoy. Once Oaks starting becoming the same way the Thursday before, or "Thurby", came about as a big event for Louisville natives to celebrate and enjoy.

Not that I don't love Keeneland, but Churchill probably darn near doubles the attendance of any single day at Keeneland with the attendance at Thurby.

There was about 55K there yesterday from what I heard. Keeneland when it gets more than 25K inside is extremely cramped. Last time I went for BG Stakes I just stayed in the press box most of the time because I hated dealing with the crowd.

Keeneland is a cute little track.
