NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- An autopsy report says retired star pitcher Roy Halladay had evidence of amphetamine, morphine and an insomnia drug in his system when he died in a small plane crash in Florida last year.

The Tampa Bay Times reported that an autopsy released Friday shows the former Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies All-Star died from blunt force trauma with drowning as a contributing factor when he crashed his personal plane into the Gulf of Mexico near New Port Richey on Nov. 7.

Another shocking revelation that an incredibly wealthy athlete with the funds and ability to do and get anything he wants is involved in something unbecoming.

Sad but, really, is this that shocking to anyone?

No more or less shocking than the regular folks that die every day from drug related issues... :idunno:

Anyone else think he may have crashed the plane on purpose? Lot's of people do really really stupid stuff once they get hooked on drugs

I don’t think so as there were numerous reports/videos of him daredevil flying in the previous month. I think if he was going to crash on purpose, it would have been one of the earlier times since he was flying the same way when he crashed.

Experts: Roy Halladay likely impaired at time of fatal plane crash

from above:

“He had a drug combination similar to a speedball,” forensic pathologist Burr Hartman

...

A speedball, in street drug parlance, is typically a mixture stimulant (in many cases cocaine) and depressant (typically heroin or morphine). Such combinations have been a major factor in the increase of drug-related deaths in the USA.

That combination of morphine and amphetamine looked 'odd'. And that would lead to sleep issues - hence the insomnia drug (Ambian generic).
