  1. Very memorable play-Great stop on the 1/2 yard line... it was spotted on the 1/2 yard, right? anyway, why do they have an offensive lineman playing defense? Nice seeing you last week end X grad-FH Dad.
  2. Kind of interesting to hear the green and white version of the "synopsis". I pretty much agree with the Trinity alum but wanted to clarify some points. The "resentment" toward Coach Beatty may be valid but not sure how much of it is that he is an outsider versus just kicking ST X's butt since he's been here. In fact, I think the backers of Green and Gold respect that Trinity went outside the family to get a great coach and are envious on some levels. But compare that with Trinity's prior coach who came from Indiana and the difference is Coach Beatty has probably the best coaching record in Kentucky history. As to the share of the talent, no doubt that St X has 3 battles that they are fighting 1) the fight for the talent within the traditional feeder schools of the CSAA. Trinity made a major haul of the 2008 Toy Bowl champion St Patrick with only Karl Roessler going to St X off what some call one of the most dominant teams ever. 2) X has to get their share of the public school kids as Trinity has dominated with special athletes James Quick, Ryan White, and Jason Hatcher, and the Dawkins RB supplementing an already talent-laden team. Clearly, these are special kids with special talents. 3) While Trinity has enjoyed unparalleled success in football, St X has enjoyed a tremendous run in the other sports during the same time frame. I won't touch the subject of the value of a state championship in football versus another sport, what it has caused is tremendous competition within the walls of Tigerville for the athletes and their time. When X won their last football championship in football, they swept the fall sports in soccer, golf, and cross country, along with swimming and tennis and lacrosse and volleyball. Many of the 100 or so freshmen football players turn into college scholarship athletes in other sports. James Quick is a unique athlete because he plays 3 sports- but a Trinity starting linebacker who started on the baseball team as a sophomore quit baseball to focus on football. The opposite happened last year at St X as the starting QB in football quit football to focus on baseball. I would believe that would never happen at Trinity. Let me comment that I am not saying which way is "better", its just different. As to the fake field goal, its about 100-0 Trinity since the fake, I hope you guys forget about that soon.....
  3. Previous Post about Mr Quick and route 31- I will drop him off. Go Irish! By the way, thank you, Trinity, for those of us married into an Elder family. This won't go over well at the Crows Nest! Maybe I will swing by the Campus store and pick up a Trinity shirt. OX, you want me to pick you up a couple?
  4. Other Scores Ballard 6 Whitefield Academy 3, J-Town 5 Moore 0, Eastern Ballard WEdnesday at 5, X- J-town, 7:30 pm
  5. Tigers get a big 25th district win against the reigning 7th region champs. Not a pretty sight as the the Tigers fall behind 5-1 and come storming back behind Andrew Willinger's bomb. All 3 X pitchers struggled with control as Bulldogs got 9 free passes and 1 HBP. Brandon Allen hit hard by the Tigers but Brandon Gates shut down the Tigers offense late. Tompkins with the win and Clooney with the save. Both teams back at it at Edwards Field at Male on Wednesday.
  6. Last time X had 2 pitchers in the 90's -2008 including current Uof L starter Justin Amlung. We lost to a freshmen pitcher from Christian Academy who had 3 pitches- a slowball that topped out at 65, a knuckleball and an eephus pitch. Baseball is the hardest tournament to win.
  7. Tigers run into a buzzsaw dropping 2 in Indianapolis. They also lost to Noblesville, In Spalding was losing pitcher in game 1. I believe Zach Clooney was loser in game 2. Mighty men of Moe are nationally ranked. Winning pitcher for Moeller was Kevin Brinkman.
  8. In the 6th and 7th region, for putting up with coaches and Twitter, officials get 47.50 for a 3 man varsity game. So all of the LIT games or KIng of the Bluegrass, or any regional game, the lucky target of abuse gets to be there an hour and a half before the game, pay for all of his and her uniforms, and spends most of game fees on ibuprophen and ben-gay and goes out there night after night. And yes, they love it. As to watching game film, every official goes through training every year with observers and most go through self paid camps to improve themselves. imagine if you will, a doctor or a lawyer review every consul on tape or even a plumber or a policeman having a split second decision shown on the 11:00 sports review to see. Imagine this commentary- "Well Brent,, you're looking live and it seems like the plumber has put a 3/4 inch pipe fitting on a 5/8 inch pipe because that's what he had on his truck. It looks like, yes you can see it on the replay, that moisture is forming, and yes, there's a drip, ladies and gentleman, there's a droplet. Wow, he wasn't in the position to even make that work."....
  9. I can say that we received financial aid from St X, because we had 2 at st X, one at Assumption and one at a parish grade school. ( total of 36K/per year for out of pocket tuition and fees and books and lunches) We completed a fairly detailed financial statement similar to the FAFSA in college. When you do receive financial aid at St X, you are required to write a thank you letter to a specific donor or contributor. I don't know if this is a name randomly selected or if the school earmarks a specific donor with a specific financial aid grant. I can see where someone can make the "sponsor" claim, but the contributor I believe donates into a general endowment fund and the need grants are distributed via financial need. With the amount of money involved, I would believe an audit trail of financial documents, and compliance is needed. I will tell you 2 things- not a lot of money ( estimated 5% for one student at St X. ) and secondly- a lot of middle income families cannot afford the Catholic high school route and the publics become a viable option. If the admission gates were open to Male for the Catholic grade schoolers, a lot of the students would go.
  10. Was Boone expected to advance past Holmes out of the region 2 years ago? Seems as though they went as far as they could, had 3 shots to win at the end of the regional final and Holmes won state. Was Boone in the top 4 in the region last year? Didn't they lose in the semifinals of the region last year? Seems like the Tubby Smith complex, "just let them play to their ability" instead of running a coach called play? Get serious...
  11. Lets cut the coaches a little slack here with the scheduling. First, he may not be responsible for the schedule. That could be part of the athletic directors duties. Second of all, all of the teams in 6A are remixing so in the case of 10 games, alot of schools have the 7 out of district games contracts done and had weeks 5, 7, and 9 for the district games. Swap out the 3 new district games and can you fit in Trinity? Does Trinity have the same open week as Ballard does? Serious questions-if you are climbing to the top, would you schedule the top dog or the 2nd or 3rd place team and climb over them first? If you are losing 26 seniors, do you schedule the toughest schedule out there? Let's not always assume it goes Ballards way. I don't have any knowledge of this but lets say that Male is now week 5 on Trinity's schedule. Week 7 is St X. So Trinity has week 6 available and so does Ballard. Ballard says bring it on and Trinity wants week 2. Sometimes, it just doesn't work out.
  12. Congrats Rocks on a Great Year. Welcome to the new district next year with Male, Manual and St X, along with probably Elder and Cincy St X on the schedule as well. Does any of your sophomores need an agent? My buddy Cam Newton knows somebody.....
  13. Trinity is heavily favored but what about the Bowling Green Curse over the Shamrocks? * Case in Point- September 24, 2010 Travis Wright is ill and Jackson Noe couldn't get the high powered offense going as T QBs go 11-24 for about 100 yards and 2 INTs and eek out a 14-12 win over the Purples of Bowling Green. * December 5, 2009- St X wins state championship at first meeting at Bowling Green 34-10. * 2008- Trinity survives wind and rain to beat Bowling Green in a late night- ( i might have this year wrong) * Add to it the September 5th, game in 2005 against Montgomery Bell just an hour south of Bowling Green in a 17-13 LOSS and it seems like Trinity doesn't travel well down south, especially in Warren County. What is waiting for Trinity this trip down Interstate 65? I think a bunch of Male fans and adopted Male fans. ( Highlands plays the game before ) Will more than Marshall Stadium's capacity ( 7K) show up in Bowling Green on Saturday? Based on post #34 and #41, I think not. I have said it before-watch out for Male. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Remember that a bunch of the Male kids played in the state championship in baseball in June so they are not intimidated by the championship run.
  14. Halftime 7-3 Trinity
  15. Just thinking that "brotherhood" only goes so far. Which is more impressive" Who's in your math class? James Quick. or Nicole Scherzinger? " I am sure who I would pick but I am worried about my Catholic brethren's choices. Anyway, this is a feeble attempt to thread jack a topic as inflammatory as I starting a topic on How far could Coach Beatty go before Trinity would let him go? ( by the way, I supported his time out and play calling against Manual.)
  16. That type of snobbiness and belief is driving the separation between public and privates. I am all for Go Tigers and go Rocks but you used the term "better". It comes off as an elitist. There are "better" people in every school. I would submit Nicole Scherzinger, Manual graduate, lead singer from the Pussycat Dolls and winner of Dancing with the Stars is better in her field than most every Trinity and St X grad.
  17. The thrill and excitement that we enjoyed on a cold night in Bowling Green last year was met with nervous anticipation at halftime last Friday. St X had played accordingly to their game plan and had executed it to a 7-7 stalemate, and most importantly, instilled fear that the improbable could come true. But Trinity marched right down the field to start the second half and converted the errors that we made. Hats off to two individual Trinity players who impressed the heck out of me- Ryan White and Travis Wright. St X made a decision to run at Ryan White and time and time again, he took on the blockers and made play after play. I don't know his height and weight but he just threw his body in harms way and stopped the runs to his side. Travis Wright made play fake after play fake and eluded the seemingly slow defensive line of St X when we did get pressure on them. The fourth down throw in the opening drive was huge. I saw one pass thrown behind Quick and the one interception but I thought every play was flawless. He plays well beyond his sophomore years. From the coaching standpoint- Trinity did a good job getting Quick and Daylyn isolated in the flat with passes or sweeps. St X repeated the mistakes inside the 10 that they did in 2005 and 2007 by going on a long count and having an X lineman jump offsides, and then going for it on 4th down. Maybe some year we'll take the 3 points. Defending the X coaches- You scout Trinity's alignment, you practice the kickoff away from Quick, Raque puts the ball perfectly where he was aiming, the Trinity return man bobbles the ball, X is in position just like Seneca and Ballard kickoff returns, and Trinity just makes a move and returns the kickoff to the X 45, instead of the 5-10 yard line where Seneca and Ballard got tackled. That is true talent, Trinity has it and you just have to respect that. Best of luck to the Rocks, and we'll see you in the district next year. Beware of Male this year- NO ONE is talking about them and giving them the credit. They are flying under the radar.
  18. I wanted to jump in and give my 2 cents worth. I would LOVE to bash Coach Beatty on this but witnessing the analytical mind and genius of Coach B, I gotta think that he thought about the first game and thought if he takes a knee, Manual will call time out. He decided to run the ball. The time out? Sounds suspicious but what about the other 10 players on the field for that last play? Did he run in a left guard to get him into the game? Maybe he ran out of time with the play clock and called it to stop a penalty. I don't think that you keep things tight for the whole game and let the offense take a penalty because of not running a play. The "handshake" at the end of the game is always a macho scene-lots of testosterone always flowing. Like I said- I want to give Coach B some grief but I can't comment on exactly what happened and the reasons behind.
  19. Wasn't it 48-0? Flashes of brilliance? Thank you for taking it easy on us....
  20. FB rules is right. The online forum is not a good avenue to voice opinions for registered officials in their sports. Seldom do you see me posting in my registered sports. What makes a good official? I think back to the movie Field of Dreams when Moonlight Graham( Burt Lancaster) is going to the cornfield after saving the little girl from choking. Shoeless Joe Jackson ( Ray Liotta), yells at him, " Hey Rookie, you were good." If a majority of every coach, player, fan and most importantly, your fellow officials thinks that about you, then you have been a good official.
  21. Want to play devil's advocate and point out that the loser of this game could play( if higher seeds prevail) the winner of another district at the higher seeded team's field in the second round of this years playoff. Imagine if you will if St X decides not to move the game. As much as the KHSAA vote seemed to gang up on Male Manual St X and Trinity, it will make district games extremely important next year. For this year, this may be the most competitive game for Trinity against Ky schools. We saw what happens against Bowling Green. Can Ballard repeat that recipe and take the number 1 seed and sending Trinity on the road for the second week?
  22. Thanks for the clarification. Actually if you go back the last 5 years,Glaser has had to compete with other sports. Loehnert plays baseball, Buehner played tennis, Brutscher played basketball, and Zoeller played baseball. ( Sidenote that Zoeller has 16 TDs and one interception for the undefeated Wittenberg and averaging 274 yds of offense for the Tigers) The point I was trying to make is put the parent and the student athlete in the situation of deciding which way to advise your son, play football or another sport. At St Xavier, there are some great options besides football. Take the case of Michael Horrell, starting linebacker on the football team in 2005 (?) and owner of 5 state championship rings. Does the fact that he has more rings than Brian Brohm mean anything? No, but the fact that his International Business degree from Yale with concentration in Chinese studies makes him a great role model for people to choose swimming as another sport and further their education. Same with Kevin Bick, Kyle Schickel, and Kyle Richard, all pretty good grade school football players but chose another fall sports path to IU, Northwestern, and Notre Dame, respectively. I am glad to hear that Coach Glaser encouraged the baseball player to pursue his dream-and making the right choice for him for the next 4 years, not just the fall of his senior year.
  23. Absolutely not true about about "trading a 4-6 titles "cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, volleyball, lacrosse, swimming, and rugby. The term you used is "I believe". That's your point of view. Alan and Peter believe differently than that. It's all in how your measure success. Understand that as a St Xavier student athlete, you can be the second string or even first string on the football team or win a state title in another sport. That's a level of competition that no other school has within the halls for the athletes that are there. (I am not saying there isn't some competition in other schools! )Does Beatty have to compete with fall baseball with a potential starting QB like Glaser did this year? Don't get into a discussion of division 1 scholarships with the cross country coach Medley or soccer coach Schulten! Sticking to this topic- Is Trinity Coach Szabo and the Trinity Lacrosse coach not a success because they brought the number 1 ranked teams into the post season last season and lost? Were they out coached by the Male Basketball coach in the regional? Male had a losing record going into tournament. Was Coach Belicheck from New England being discussed from him being replaced when he took an undefeated 17-0 and more talented team and lost to the Giants in the Super Bowl? Glaser coaches football players from freshmen year to the end of the senior year in football. The bonus you get with Coach is he doesn't stop coaching life skills on the Sunday after the state championship.
  24. Demarcus Smith déroule à sa droite et est abordée par Butler! Translation: Smith rolls to his right and is tackled by Butler. OUI! OUI!
