Big measuring stick for Mercer .... If Mercer manhandles Newport on both lines of scrimmage , rest of 2a is in trouble .. If it ends up being 45 to 38 , same old Mercer ..... Big games are won at the lines of scrimmage ,,, if it wasn't so far , I'd come up to watch , we know the way to Newport and the memories are all good ...

Not even a good scrimmage , bring on the next cupcake ..... Powell really needs to think about it's football future ....

Kasey is an all around athlete influences a game in many positions - RB is just one on them.... likely not his best position ... Kasey is immediate Thomas is a wide reciever , playmaker ... physical to play RB but again likely not his best position in the long run ... Mr Thomas has more long term "potential" upside .. but potential in football especially high school is somewhat overrated .. Both kids can play and Thomas is really coming on ... good for our area

For sure Devils need Sizemore... But resist hurrying back ... Another down is not worth long term health for any kid any place ... This kid is an athlete with three years experience who is thinking while playing. He and Clark compliment each other at safety...

At some point LCHS has to make a stand or season is going to be very long , does it happen this week ? Do dawgs have it in them , varnum ? Is tradition on life support in Lousia ? Let's go Lawrence , rally the troops ... hopefully this game is at home ... Next couple games are critical for the program ... Maybe all the sideline coaches in Louisa should sponsor a bon fire at Yatesville Lake and break out the flip flops .... Good luck LCHS ....

Fleming has had some good teams. Their facilities and following tell me they can play with anyone. Someone made a real short sighted decision that will have kids traveling the roads of kentucky unnecessarily ...

For Russell this means two more scrimmages before the real games begin ... This format puts the season on the coaches .... they have to keep kids focused , tuned and ready. Coaches challenge for Devils is attending many birthday parties, getting presents , everyone singing your praises , eating cup cakes and then having a dog fight in the third game ... variety is the spice of life ...

Last game if Fleming shows up ? Trying to spark someone at Fleming to tell us why they wanted out of our district ? Certainly can't be your coach , according to him , you beat yourselves every year against the Devils ... Fleming has beat the Devils before , why so much frustration ?

Your right about the Devils in 2003 ... Engineers laid a good old fashion butt whipping on us that night. Ran it down our throats again and again ... Even Gross didn't get free very often that night .. We didn't change our defense either base 5 -2 and it wasn't working against the toe to toe version of the wing t estill ran .. What happen to the RB you folks had that year ? How have engineers gone from that to now .. I like Estill - once you get there .. Like the band m the uniforms and the playing field ...

I can't get past Fleming wanting out of the new 3a district with Russell and Mason. How does this make sense ? I hope East puts one on them ,no idea who really wins this ....

Powell underachieves in football ... and it continues this year They do always seem to change uniforms ... always interesting

Russell has alot of talent this year... But talent alone doesn't win state championships ........... Last years team had proven experience as almost all the seniors played both ways at positons they fit very well. This years group of Devils have the talent to match this level of play and by years end they can get there. Right now many areas have some growing to do .... just like last year ... that's the nature of 2a football. I agree with GIAT wouldn't want to play Belfry - red army , especially on the road nor Mercer right now. But both can start packing a lunch for later in the year...

Sat on Morgan side , they have almost as many hurt as in the game ... Morgan played hard ....

Russell parents and community support their kids ( girls and boys ) at all levels in all activities. This support spells success in all activites from sports , band to academics. No Public school in Eastern Ky can boast Russell's achievements and more importantly test scores. These achievements start with hard working parents who support their kids ( boys and girls) at every turn in every activity. This support is both money and time beginning at the earliest of ages ... Only downside , Russell parents and support at times can be percieved as overbearing but the intentions are all pure ...

Having seen Victor Anderson last week on TV and Petrino in 2005 state champ game , both these kids can clearly compete - immediately in the national Army game. Having watched all the state games last year , it's clear the dominate group of kids on each of the smaller Class teams could have played - been on the field at the 4A level. That's about all you can say for sure about the kids from smaller schools. No doubt Kasey as an all around athlete would excel on any of the elite 4A teams in Ky. And that's all you can say for sure right now. Good luck to all the kids , I agree with some earlier post that Kentucky will be lucky to get one kid in this game ... The only thing impressive last year about Jones in this game was his size and speed.

These rankings mean nothing this early. 2A teams are only as strong as their weakest areas and every 2A team is weak in something , ranging from specific postions to depth ... For 2A teams the season is about developing not as much reloading. That's what makes it so interesting. At season's end look for teams who have developed the most and have consistent execution in all aspects of the game. Devils have strengths and weaknesses , established coaches will do the best they can with what they have .... no secrets in 2A football ... coaching is a strength for the Devils ... same at Belfry ....

Where are all the Ashland fans on this one , wade in guys- the waters fine , who is best in 3a ... Behind Highlands ....

Burg hammers Boyd ... Boyd needs to run the fullback ... he came close several times to breaking free against the Devils

Josh Wills and Jacob Sizemore ... both these kids don't get the attention they deserve. Certainly big part of Devils success past couple years ....

Has to be Ashland , they beat Red Army , Devils and Portsmouth West ... ( couldn't pass this up ) Seriously ... Highlands ... without a doubt , head and shoulders above 3A type play I have seen so far this year including Ironton Ohio ... Ashland is improving and I will be rooting for them come playoff time ...

Mercer last year's weaknesses ..... one game view with Devils Offense .... Staying with the run and grinding it out ... Had a good RB last year Running wide on teams with speed Linemen who can drive block a stacked box .. In general offense needs to be tougher minded .. Defense ... Secondary and LB's who will come up deliver a hit and tackle people ( one Lb was good) Defensive linemen who move their feet and make tackles .. In general defense needs to be tougher minded ... If the combined schools produce a tougher minded product on the field , the sky is the limit for the former Scotties ... I wish we could see you folks ... Maybe we are the ones who need to raise our game ...

Likely will not return to greatness until the school and entire system has much more stability. It can be done but alot of dust needs to settle and turn into concrete in Louisa ... too much turnover and turmoil right now ...
