With all due respect, I don't think that the folks at Pikeville are not going to sit and be blindly optimistic based on what what happened at Oldham County. Different kids, different circumstances, etc. It certainly sounds as if they are much more concerned with the here and now. I don't want to sound too much like a jerk. I think ANY program deserves patience at this point in the year.

I think that what Coach Bruner has going is an awesome start. However, the Tigers will have too much speed and should handle the option attack. It must be noted that anything is possible in a rivalry game. Bardstown 28 Nelson 14

I think that Bullitt East's weakness will play right into the strength of Bullitt Central. The O-Line and D-Line play. However, I don't think that Bullitt Central has the horses or confidence to get this win. Look for big plays, special teams, and time of possession to be critical. Bullitt East should have the advantage in all of those areas. Bullitt East 28-7. **Bullitt Central's freshmen got a big win over Bullitt East last night 16-0.

I will add this even though it gets off track of the thread a bit. . . Looking at the 4-26 stat that you gave. IMO, The one that could work against Bullitt East this year is lack of a tough schedule. When you have group like they had last season they go out and get the job done regardless of the level of an opponent. Whether they played the Athertons and Valleys or the Centrals and North Bullitts they were exceptional. Young teams tend to "rise" up for better teams and can play worse when they don't play as tough of an opponeent. The simple experience of "rising up" to play those teams is SO valuable late in the season. Obviously, it won't be a factor until the 3rd round or later with this season's playoff situation.

Bullitt East over Nelson.

Bermuda is by far the best. But, in the climate and conditions in KY it takes a TON of work and upkeep. Basically, there are only 3 months or so that are conducive to prime growing for that type of turf. Most bermuda surfaces begin to turn brown and thin out around the first of October. Usually by playoff week one, the surface is totally dormant.

Bullitt East rolls in this one. I don't buy this stuff about their inexperience. Sure they are younger than in the past couple of years, but they have done an excellent job with the JV and Freshmen programs. The kids now in varsity positions have played and won an awful lot of football games. They are now in a "reload" mode rather than a "rebuild". Bullitt East 35 - Nelson 13

It think those who are questioning a probable move to 6 classes and keeping the amount of teams making the post-season at 4 (using the watering down argument), should consider a GREAT point made by Julian Tackett at the annual KFCA meeting at Centre College back in June. He stated in all of the following: Moving from 3 classes to 4 in the 70's. Taking the top 2 teams to playoffs in the 80's instead of only 1. Take the top 4 teams to playoffs in the 90's instead of only 2. Have any of these moves ever been detrimental to football in Kentucky?? This is one of those things that individual schools must look at for the betterment for ALL of high school football in Kentucky not just one or very few schools. Many folks bashing these changes are affiliated with schools that will compete at the highest level no matter what the number of classes or teams making the playoffs will be. This is a GOOD thing for Kentucky High School Football period. It is change, and change will take time to get used to.

This is shocking. Not the best timing in the world. I hope that Coach Miller is well connected and can get a staff together. Fairdale is only one of two "neighborhood" schools left in Jefferson County. It could be a very strong program with some stability. If even a handful of the the "rumormill" items were true, this was inevitable. Can't say that I blame the adminisration at the school or at the board level on their call, just wish for program's sake it could have been done MUCH earlier.

These look very similar to the way last years standings wrapped up. Don't put too much stock in preseason rankings. They usually are put together with only last season's record and limited knowledge of returning players.

Saw some great games out at U of L. I really don't understand the rule about having to be undefeated to play in the championship tourney. I feel that winner of each pool of 4 should advance and play out from there. Trinity looked very sharp and are obviously getting reunited with Coach Coverdale very smoothly, St. X look more athletic (IMO) than I have ever seen, the Male and Jeff. game was one for the ages. And the Ammons kid from Franklin County is the REAL deal. The two biggest surprises that I have heard about this summer in the Louisville area have been Seneca and Waggener. Waggener went 2-1 on Saturday with their only loss coming to Shelby Co by 3 pts in their first game while they were missing a few who were taking the ACT. Seneca made some noise in the Male tourney getting to the finals on Friday night. They played each other in the 3rd game with Waggener edging it out with an overtime win.

The bottom line is that ANY head football coach must be a good fit for a particular school. Knute Rockne himself could have went into some situations and not have been a good fit. I have heard many successful head coaches state that they would never follow a longtime and very successful coach. Programs that are the most open to change are those that need to rebuilt or are struggling. There were probably many folks linked to the Castle program that felt if "it ain't broke don't fix it". Regardless, its a done deal and its best for all involved to move onward and upward. Coach Coverdale is a phenominal person and football man. If I were a betting man, I would put a pretty hefty sum down that Coach Coverdale's prefix will change from "Asst" to "Head" before he leaves St. Matthews this time. Larry, if you are in the know, then I guess we will have to disagree. I will stand by those points that I made as fact. Male has NO resides clusters. Most schools have a cluster from the west end and one surrounding their school. Male does not. Most schools have to accept a student into their school 1. if they live in their resides areas or 2. if they are kicked out of another and live in their resides cluster. Male does not. Therefore, Male's administration admits 100% of their students on based on middle school academics and attendence. If students are not up to their standards they CAN and are often asked to leave and return to their "home school". Now, which points did I get wrong???

Very true. It sounds from reading the article that, whomever gets this job is going to have his work cut out for him with uniting the kids and communities. **Doesn't this sound like a movie theme???? (Titans??):sssh:

:laugh: A public school with no residential boundries, selects and admits 100% of their student population, and can tell students to leave whenever they choose. Yes, Male "is" a public school. Ha!

Will the Head Coaches in each sport have to apply and interview? Who will be the Head Football Coach?? (Jaggers or Yeast)

That is the whole idea. It is NOT the job of a HS coach to determine if a kid is a good fit to play in college. That is best left up to the guys who are paid to make those decisions . . The college coaches. Combines can give players as well as their parents a clear indication of what their chances to play at the next level might be. The GLFCA does a great job with this event. It is much much more that fund raiser!!

I don't agree with it. I just don't see how it can be justified of using tax dollars in this way. There are 19 other public schools being left out in Jefferson County. It sorta makes the world of haves and have nots grow that much more. I do commend the folks involved for their efforts. But essentially, they have only raised less than 1/4 of the total. The state gave 300,000 and they boosters have raised 90,000.

Wrong. This event is about giving kids who might fly under the radar a chance to be seen and get noticed.

I feel that when players and parents are involved things that should be keep confidential are made public. Lets be brutally honest, a good bit of the job information about coaching hires and interviews on this site come from parent and player sources. IMO, Keeping kids and parents out of this process helps to maintain the integrity of a hire and also can keep emotions from getting to high.

Papa John's is the best site without a doubt. -All chair-back seating. -They do a good job with concessions and cleanup -Easy access to food, bathrooms, exits, ect. -Plenty of options for motels. -The turf. An IMO the best venue for the kids. Playing in that setting is something that they will NEVER forget.
