  1. Ram, Where did these projections come from? I have seen a projection from the coaches' advisory committee and they have quite a few differences. If these are CURRENT enrollments, keep in mind that classification is determined with 4 year average enrollments.
  2. I read the article and have to agree with Brigid Devries. There definitely has to be a finite date. I guess the issue or question is can there be a reasonable finite date other than August 1 that would not penalize kids like the young lady in the story? Also, can this be done without having any sort of a "grey area". IMO, the current rule of turning 19 before Aug. 1 is not an unfair rule. No matter at what age you set the cutoff there will be stories such as this. This current rule keeps the age range in high school athletics from around 14 - 18. 14 year olds playing with 19 year olds seems to be too great of an age gap.
  3. Matt Brown. He was the DC at Waggener this past year. He spent 6 seasons at Oldham County prior to that. He will do a great job. He is young, energetic, and a great teacher. Congratulations to Coach Brown!
  4. Not at all. This project was designed and the fund-raising efforts were set up to not compete with or jeopardize the annual fund. Even with the alum base that X has raising 28 million will take a while. Project X is an animal of its own.
  5. Is this confirmed?? His not moving to Nelson County would be surprising. It would seem that living in the Bardstown area would be one of the attractions to this job. It seems to be a great community. If that is the case the drive probably will get old, but if he is willing to make the sacrifice it won't be an issue.
  6. Congratulations to Coach Bruner and those young men at Nelson County. It is finally time for them to move on and focus and getting better and having a productive spring ball. This job will take time, but they have hired a committed man with great character to lead them.
  7. Whether or not it was "tacky" to post an "anticipated" job is simply a matter of opinion, also one would certainly think that it would not have been done if there wasn't some sort of finality at this point. Even, if things haven't been made "official". I think you have to look at a similar situation to Petrino and Jurich (Giving A LOT of credit here, huh!!) Jurich has made it clear that if Petrino were to go, he would be in immediate coaching search mode and not look back. He has to, that is his job. Henry County is being forced to play the waiting game, and obviously they have decided to control there own destiny and find them a good coach and do it in a hurry. Keep in mind that many school systems are questioned on this very board for not going out and finding a good coach to fill an opening, implying that football is not important to them. The bottom line that I see is, Henry County sees the value of the off-season program and spring football for their kids (A good thing!). During a coaching search, which is typically no less than 30 days, both of those things have a tendency to cease. Therefore, a proactive approach seems to be the right thing to do for the kids, school, and community in allowing them to move on.
  8. Thursday is obviously not ideal, but this is a special situation and hopefully won't be an annual problem. One thing that everyone must consider for a Sunday game is getting the stadium ready to play after the UL / UCONN game. Cleaning the stadium, restrooms, parking areas, stocking concessions, etc.
  9. I can state some facts relevant to Henry County and you may read between the lines. At the Nike Coach of the Year clinic. There was a posting for on the job board for an "ANTICIPATED" Head Football Coaching Opening at Henry County High School. The assistant AD was in attendence to talk to those interested. How that links to North Oldham ? ? ? ?
  10. That sentiment epitomizes why it is so hard to get things going there. The perception that it is "not cool" to be an Atherton football player will be the new HC's first and most important hurdle.
  11. The KHSAA should consider the what is best for all of Kentucky high school football and not a draw for ONE game. What format gives the most exposure for the MOST kids? What format gives equal exposure to all classes? Those two items should be the motivation when looking at solutions and whys to improve the current system.
  12. I don't think the KHSAA or Delegate Assembly has had any formal dialogue dealing with the 2007 realignment for football. The new 6A classification was simply a recommendation from the Football Coaches' Advisory committee. (Who did vote in support) It makes sense and provides some additional opportunity for many schools. From that point, there has not been any dialogue dealing with state finals or their format. Realistically, the only scenario I could see happening if the finals are played at one venue and the state were to have 6 classifications of football, would be a 3 game and 3 game split schedule. It could be Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun. That could definitely change from year to year. The twelfth game for college football will have a lasting impact on these games from here out. The good and the bad with UL being a nationally ranked team is their uncertainty of having games being picked up for TV. I could see that the KHSAA will be forced to determine game times very late in the season. The recent article in the CJ stated that a kickoff time and television coverage for the UL/UCONN game may not be determined until only 10-12 days prior the game.
  13. Coach Glaser became director of admissions in December of 2003. He began the post mid-year. He did work within the admissions area while he taught long before then. He would visit grade schools and work in a very hands-on manner with open house and the placement test. Since he has been given director of admissions duties their freshmen numbers have improved a great deal. He does an awesome job getting students interested in an Xavierian education and not just football or athletics.
  14. The 4A schools in Jefferson County are in two different regions. X plays opposite teams from Hardin, Nelson, Meade, and Bullitt Counties. The regional winner plays the Western Kentucky Regional winner to advance to the state finals. Trinity plays opposite from teams from Northern Kentucky, like Boone, Ryle, Dixie, Connor, etc. Their regional champion plays the Eastern Kentucky Region that does include the Lexington area.
  15. Hearsay, stay positive. Even though this one has been a political and ugly mess, ANYONE who can put a positive spin on the hiring of a new HC needs to do so. Those players are going to need every ounce of support they can get. The bottom line is that there has been a change, there is going to be a new HC, and the kids DO deserve better. But, dwelling on the things that have went down will not help one single young man in that program. Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we respond. Blaming the admins. or the super will not gain the players one thing. The players, parents, community, and school need to try to do their best to ensure that the community is not divided to the point of no return. From what I hear, I don't think that they are to point that point as of yet. There seems to be some optimism that things will get better. Look for Nelson to be anywhere from 4-6 to 6-4! With their improvement at the end of last year to build on and the excitement a new coach will bring, they will get it going!! (But they do play in a very tough district and have a brutal non-district schedule)
  16. Atherton will begin a second round of interviews next week. They are bringing back 3 candidates and plan to hire from them. They should hire someone by middle of next week. It usually takes a week or so in Jefferson County to get a hiring announced. That depends on how quickly it gets approval from the BOE.
  17. The Kentucky Department of Education site has MULTIPLE teaching jobs posted for Nelson County. And, if they are posted there, then they are not anticipated, they are the real deal. One of those positions is Health and PE. Based on what I have heard :sssh: and have now seen with my own eyes (the posting that will end on 2/23). Look for Coach Bruner to be named on the 23rd or 24th. The folks down in Nelson County need to stay positive. It will get better!!
  18. I have heard February 23rd as the magic date. That is the date the teaching position closes. It is Coach Bruner's IF he wants it.
  19. ...draw your own conclusions about why 4A is continually dominated by only 3 or 4 schools and NO school with under 800 boys EVER even makes it to the 4A state finals! . . . great point. Makes the whole "if the public schools would just work harder" argument hard to swallow, maybe even obsurd. Facts are facts, and gives some pretty hard evidence that there is not a level playing field, IMO of course.
  20. Atherton, for an established Head Coach, is a career risk. Yet, the best thing for this job is that there is absolutely NOWHERE to go but up. I truly think that if a guy went in and solely concentrated getting more kids out for 12-18 months and could win 3 possibly 4 games it could change the climate of that program and even the school dramatically. Then, he could begin to raise the expectations in the off-season, summer, and so on. There is a solid administration there and as stated great facilities. Moving down to AAA is a good thing, however Atherton is in a very competitive AAA district. I would say that the biggest negative with Atherton is its location, (the Highlands) is an area where many of the kids are enrolled in Catholic grade schools and high schools. Atherton began preliminary interviews yesterday and will wrap them up today. They are planning on narrowing that group down and bringing back 2 to 3 guys and having more in depth meetings with each. Best of luck to the Rebel program!
  21. Any new word coming from North Oldham? There were rumors that Coach Martin was offered this job a couple of weeks ago. True? Has he accepted?
  22. From what I understand the only real money maker for Manual having X as a tenant is the revenue from concessions. Manual has plans to add field turf and take out the track around the field once X is done playing there. X does pay a minimal rental fee (compared to Old Cardinal Stadium or Papa John's), but I would say that the additonal wear and tear, extra maintainence, and field paint eat that up pretty quickly.
  23. I definitely think that it would be fair to say that X has developed more "bitter" rivalries with Male and Manual over that past 5-10 years. However, anyone from the X or Trinity camps must admit that the X vs. Trinity rivalry is the one thing that can truly effect everything for them. Both schools compete for essentially the same "recruits", and those recruits translate into bottoms in desks. And, bottoms in desks = $$$. Success in athletics for these two schools against one another, largely effects numbers in open-house, how many kids take the placement test, and eventually the freshmen class enrollments. And lets be honest, that is the bottom line for these two schools. X vs. Trinity has always appeared to be more a 'friendly' rivalry, due to many of the students, parents, and alumni from both schools knowing each other. (And they all handle this rivalry with class!) Fortunately X, has developed some very bitter (and healthy) rivalries from within their own district with Male and Manual. This bitterness seems to grow a bit each year. Trinity just doesn't seem to get the same type of perennial competition within their district. There have been some great team efforts for a year or two, but nothing sustained. (Eastern with Joe Prince, Seneca with Lonnie Oldham, Oldham Co. with Mike Jackson, and Ballard a time or two). To answer TigerKat's question, I would have to say even though Male and Manual have both grown into games that are difficult to equal, it's pretty darn hard to match the level of the rivalry of X vs. Trinity. It has lasted and LONG time and will continue to do so.
  24. Where I am at a loss is, that if the superintendent "made" this move, why isn't she movtivated to make the hire happen and create a teaching job. Unfortunately, it sounds as if the "high rollers" and those making the decisions there, clearly don't understand the importance what goes on within a high school football program during the months of January - June. Many "administrative minded" folks simply think football begins on July 15th. Lets hope that something gives very soon! The Cardinal program falls behind more and more with each day lost. :madman:
