Louisville area football combines

Featured Replies

Just a reminder, the greater Louisville football coaches will be hosting their annual high school football combine this coming Monday afternoon the 8th, at 4:30 in the old Cardinal Stadium at the Fairgrounds. This combine is for upcoming Seniors only. Players should see their High School coach for details.

Also, scout.com, an internet based college recruiting magazine will be holding a combine in Louisville on Saturday the 20th. Players from KY, IN, OH, TN will be attending this combine. You can go to scout.com for more info.

This combine has traditionally been held at Ballard, I don't know why the change this year.

It is strictly for fund raising.

You must not know what you are talking about. I am in no way affiliated with anyone that runs this combine and I will tell you that there is no other time that you can see that many college coaches present at any one function for high school players. The cost for the players is MINIMAL and the results are actually compiled for the players that have not been noticed yet to have available to college scouts. This season the people at Middletown's Metro Fitness have offered to put the combine on. These people deal with speed training as well as strength training. Are they college talent scouts? NO! Do they stand to gain somewhat from providing this service? Probably. I would venture to say that the combine being set at the Old Cardinal Stadium can make this a step toward bigger and better things in the future. The seniors to be will be in (a former) college facility performing for college scouts and a shot at their future in a college program. My hat is off to Coach Mark Catlett and all involved in the combine being produced this way. If it does not work out as well then hopefully we can improve and make things that much better in years to come. You will not see these scouts rubbing elbows with players but you will notice a few talking to the coaches of some of the players that shine. What better could these kids ask for? I only wish this type of service would have been provided while I was preparing for my senior season.

Wrong.

This event is about giving kids who might fly under the radar a chance to be seen and get noticed.

I think Scout's is by invitation.

It is by invitation only, but a High School coach can contact Scout via their web site and request that a certain player be invited. I do not know what qualifications Scout uses to determine who gets invited and who doesn't.

BTW, I am not promoting Scout or any other combine/recruiting service, but I do think they provide a good opportunity for players to be seen by college coaches who other wise might be overlooked. If possible, I would like to spend some time at both combines to see some of the upcoming players in action before the season starts.

Yes

Thanks.

Here is my two cents on this. This combine is outstanding and run VERY well. I encourage any Senior football kid out their to participate. It is also my understanding the information gathered is put into a book for college coaches to buy.

I also encourage all the T posters out their to tell any interested Trinity senior about this because most kids at T don't know about it and weren't given the information...unless something changed this year.

It seems to be improving with the venue change and the book but when it started it was no more than a fund raiser. It lets you compare yourself with others in the area true but there are so many there who have no chance to play at the next level.

Is the Monday event open to the public to watch?

What is the issue with this? There are costs involved and time is worth something to many people these days. There are many coaches in attendance every year. For all the kid who "have no chance to play at the next level", there are the ones that would not be getting any interest from schools if not for a combine like this. I have a bigger concern with the "camps" and scouting services that charge a much larger amount of money for the kids to be looked at by virtually no one in a position to offer the kids any opportunity. I would suggest that any kid that has played (gotten on the field) for their high school, pay the reasonable fee to have the experience of being tested and compared to some of those receiving attention already.

Open to public? For free?
