I say Bullitt East 38-14 any thoughts?

Who did Bullitt East scrimmage against this season? I can't find anything about who they played and how they did?

BE scrimmaged Ballard Friday. Scrimmage was played like an actual game, Ballard won 20-16. Ballard scored with 2 minutes left to win. That TD was set up by a gift from the officials. On 4th and 20, a BE defender hit the QB right after he let the ball go and was called for roughing the passer. That being said, it was a sloppy game on both sides.

Bullitt East looked good for 3 quarters. QB looked pretty good, Running Back looked strong - knew he'd be fast this year but it looked like he bulked up well to be able to run up the middle. They seemed to alternate WR's. One looked real good caught everything thrown at him except a pass late in the game - over the middle pass and he got drilled. The other WR looked alright, a little short, the one he didn't catch was over his head and if he had a few more inches he could have caught it. He had a nice catch late for about 40 yards that was called back because of a penalty. They need to stick with one, every other drive never works. They seemed to alternate the same two kids at CB also. Put the kid who catches everything at WR and the short kid at CB and be done with it.

 

Offense line struggled, QB was running for his life alot. Defense line looked good. Pass defense was poor, IMO there biggest problem on defense last year also. Soft zones never work.

 

BE looks like they have a great kicker also. I wasn't that impressed with their scrimmage last year and the went 13-1. This year they looked really good for 3 quarters then seemed to forget everything that worked in the 4th. The roughing the passer call was really weak.

Sure they are younger than in the past couple of years, but they have done an excellent job with the JV and Freshmen programs. Very good point ... they have some very talented juniors on this time. A few on the O-Line, D-line. The WR and RB I mentioned previously also. They are also a very fast team this year.

 

Their first 3 games are against teams that went 4-26 last year. They should be ready come time for Central in the 4th week. They need to be, that will be a tough game. Drug testing is being implemented here in Bullitt County this year ... interesting to see if it has any effect at East or North.

I will add this even though it gets off track of the thread a bit. . .

 

Looking at the 4-26 stat that you gave. IMO, The one that could work against Bullitt East this year is lack of a tough schedule. When you have group like they had last season they go out and get the job done regardless of the level of an opponent. Whether they played the Athertons and Valleys or the Centrals and North Bullitts they were exceptional. Young teams tend to "rise" up for better teams and can play worse when they don't play as tough of an opponeent. The simple experience of "rising up" to play those teams is SO valuable late in the season.

 

Obviously, it won't be a factor until the 3rd round or later with this season's playoff situation.

Though I'm pulling for them, in reality Nelson County is still a very long way from turning it around. Some decent skill personnel but some very undersized lineman. This one probably won't be close.

 

However, expect good things from two Cardinal players, QB Jordan Keene and TB/OLB D'Sean Patterson.

Bullitt East-42 Nelson-13

I don't think the youngsters at BE are quite ready to blow teams out yet. I'll take BE 21-14.

O.K., I lied. Nelson County apparently has cultivated at least 2 or 3 offensive lineman who did not play last year that are significantly larger than the lineman they had last year. They will average about 5'11" and about 240 lbs. across the offensive front. If any of these guys can play (and I'm sure Bart Bruner and line coach Hunter Ballard have been busting it trying to get them ready) they may be in better shape than I thought.

 

Nelson County's defense will be more experienced. That have three very good players in LB Brandon Williams, OLB Chad Crepps, and SS Tyler Knight. The DL also has some experience.

 

If the line can perform, and Keene, Patterson, and Cam Downs can run the ball as expected, this may be a different ball game.

 

I'll still give Travis Broughton and the Chargers the edge, but it'll be closer, say 21-7.

Coach Bruner should worry about his coaches being loyal. Some of those guys were the gas on the fire last year.
