  1. Exactly, I have never seen so many defensive replies to what was essentially a compliment to the school and entire athletic program. I never once said I had things figured out and that Beatty was anything but a great coach. Just stated an opinion and gets everybody's feathers ruffled....GEEZ! Aren't we a little touchy? I would feel like it was a slap in my face if I was a hard working young man and heard everyone talk about how Coach Beatty does so much more with so much less to work with, that is the insult. That is EXACTLY why it is a tribute to the situation Trinity has built for its current student/athletes and alumni as well. Everyone should have an opportunity to play for such a high quality, Nationally Ranked Football team.
  2. Reread my first statement! I never detracted from Beatty and never said that ANY Tom, Dick, or Harry (Mike or Joe) could replace Beatty. Let us not think there have been some very distinct changes over the years at Trinity leading up to the hiring of Beatty and afterwards. The scope/range of the types of student/athletes has changed as has the facilities and the overall commitment to the football program has. I suspect there has been an overall commitment to athletics in general with the tremendous facilities they now have at their disposal. This is one reason I cringe when others talk about how they are so successful and "doing it with less"(?) Less what? Don't try that talent card or facilities or whatever. Let us all be realistic, Trinity has more of just about everything than most and they have worked to get that. (Not saying than St. X or even Male, just most). I, as well as alot of others, would take six or eight less talented athletes (who are dedicated, loyal, and football savy) over one pure athlete any day. Multiply that by the numbers of football players and you have a team full of warriors ready to lay it on the line for the general. That is not all that bad of a situation to be in. I am sure too that Trinity does compensate their coach reasonably well and that would allow them to "replace" Beatty with someone almost as capable with a little more ease.
  3. I honestly DO think that Bob Beatty is a fine coach, as fine a coach as there is in this area! Please, please do not make it out to be an extraordinary feat that he wins as much as he does at a school like Trinity. He ought to win!!! I think WE ALL can agree that Trinity is not at a loss for much of ANYTHING!!! They DO have some of the best Alumni, facilities, football tradition and areas to draw prospective students from. I AM one of the few who really thinks there are a lot of coaches who could be just as successful there as Beatty has been. Many have done very well at the schools they coach but just do not get over "the hump" and win the games head to head all the time. They just need to keep working harder and nope that they can get that 1-2 wins that CAN turn the tables. I am SURE that I will be blasted for this comment but that is my opinion and I AM entitled to it.
  4. I will go out on a limb and guess that this award will go to a coach who has won games that maybe no one thought they could win and played a tough non-district and district schedule. Right!!!
  5. I really cannot tell if the revised top 5 is genuine or patronizing you.
  6. In my mind I think that Manual deserves a spot in the 4A top ten but maybe not the overall top ten. I am trying to look at this objectively and I know that there are some A, AA, AAA teams who can matchup well with some 4A teams. It would be arrogant to think that all 4A teams are head and shoulders better than smaller class programs. Sure the sheer numbers differences in the smaller class schools would put them at a distinct disadvantage but they could still compete and beat some of the over rated teams in larger classes.
  7. Why would this really concern the T contingent? I would think like Michigan wanting Ohio State to keep Cooper on as head coach as long as possible. Now it looks like Ohio State would hate to see Michigan let Lloyd Carr go. It would behoove the Trinity fans to hope that Beatty's dominance over St.X and Glaser would continue.
  8. I like the teams who "check down" to the RB sitting at the line of scrimmage and "nudge" the ball downfield with plays that would NEVER be made in a REAL game. There were a couple teams who acted like they won the State Championship by winning a "pool" game.
  9. WOW!!! This may be the first time in my short history on BGP that I have gotten that!:thumb:
  10. I cannot believe that a "passing league" comparison is being made while trying to decide on the top teams in the state. While SOME teams try to run their offenses and defenses in these "basketball on grass " games, most run totally different schemes. Just to win a passing league! I can agree that you see quality of your receivers and the composure of your quarterback. I do not think the results necessarily equate to your top teams at the end of the season. I understand that these 7 on 7 games are some of the only heah to head contests we can refer to but it IS a stretch. My top 5, of course I HAVE NOT seen all these teams but: 1. Trinity (of course) 2. Male 3. CovCath 4. Henry Clay 5. Mercer Next Best 5 6. St. X 7. Highlands 8. Russell 9. Danville 10. Ryle
  11. I agree with this point very much.:thumb: BTW, nice avatar!
  12. Man, that is a thread jacking of epic proportions!!! Mr. Football for 2006 and we are comparing Brohm versus Bush from 4 years ago. Argue on!
  13. AAHHH!!! The eternal argument begins again. All hypotheticals and ifs/buts,etc, etc. I do like that everyone can point at the R2D4 again and say, "it wasn't that tough." There are few teams that could play that schedule year in and year out without a possible bump or scare time to time. Yes, Manual was "scrappy"(?) and PRP proved to be a bit overhyped (after the fact). That still is a VERY tough chore playing St.X, PRP, Manual then St. X.........AGAIN in consecutive weeks. I was shocked that Meade made it to the Ryle game but evident;y alot of John HArdin fans were not. I was told that John HArdin could not pass the ball (QB was hurt earlier) and that MEade would be a tough game for them. Was also shocked that Warren Central did not advance another round. The West was a bit down this season but that is an exception and not the rule.
  14. I don't think (personally) that lightening the class load of a "coach" has an adverse effect on the education of students (or show less prority on education). They would still be expected to work as their "job" of coaching does produce a revenue for these schools as well. Now IF they were talking about lightening the class load of the students then you have a more valid argument about priorities. I too would like to have a shot at coaching a team that has that much talent and the resources to do the things (and have the things) Hoover does.
  15. I would say that that is one of the BIGGEST advantages. The other is the facilities to practice and train in. Another is the length of the season on a regular basis being longer than most other schools. That is without getting into some other areas I don't want to consider now.
  16. No question that Male probably has a player or two who could fill the positions Beaumont plays on both sides of the ball. I would beg someone who has watched him play (from the 5th/6th grade) to say that they DID not see him as a potential superstar. He plays every play as hard as anyone I have seen as a "one way" player. I am sure there are others I HAVE NOT been privy to see play as well. I just find it hard to believe there are MANY others who could stack up the performances Beaumont has against like competition. He will be a sight to watch in college. As some have said he could be just as big a star on defense but he has so many tools to offer on offense and special teams. He lays the wood when he tackles on defense and also has that "lean" and ability to break tackles when he runs the ball. You do not see him take on solid shots hardly ever, when you do he usually falls forward. I will get off the Beaumont bandwagon for now, just feel like he is a notch above some of the others mentioned in this race for Mr. Football who I HAVE seen play. (I have not seen them all of course).
  17. It is a numbers game. Plain and simple, you have more to choose from you ultimately get more quality . As RockPride stated you can't sneak all those extra bodies on to the field but it sure helps to have more able bodies to scrimmage against every day at practice. Probably doesn't hurt in getting better efforts in practices with all those bodies vying for some precious playing time on Friday nights.
  18. Unreal!!! He said what was on his mind at the time and what was "politically correct" was probably not the first thing crossing his mind. What was said by the coach to HIS TEAM should have been privileged information, unfortunately someone else heard this and felt compelled to spread the information. It obviously was a tough loss and directly after suffering that loss emotions were still high, I am sure. Obviously some of the critics and others trying to bash the comments have never been in that situation. I would imagine that this is the reason that anyone came on here trying to discount what the coach said. I can fully understand the "angle" of the speech and HOPEFULLY his team that returns next year will play with a "chip" on their shoulders. What motivation this could be!!! The loss hurts and to quote a cliche, "that which does not kill us only makes us stronger." Good luck to the team in their battle to overcome the CovCath advantages. :thumb:
  19. Central is never short on the athletes, but what exactly has kept them from a championship thus far???? I would not be surprised if the Purples come in town and take that chance from Central this week. It would not be a shock, a meltdown is coming just whether it happens this friday or in the Final is anybodies guess.
  20. It would be a very close pick between the Henry Clay over Trinity and the Owensboro Catholic over Mercer. Both Trinity and Mercer would have to be overwhelming favorites at this point. Heck, I would like to see Mercer against the winner of Trinity at Henry Clay. That would be a good game.
