State 4 A Final

Featured Replies

For how many years have we heard that the east side of 4A was not as good as the west? In the final 4 , you have 3 from the old East -West format, and in the final , you have 2 teams that usually met in the first round or two. If anything came out of the new format , it shows that the barking about the west being best was just that----a bunch of barking!

Good Luck to TRINITY AND RYLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course it is only one year but Ryle's wins over Meade and Hendo speak volumes about 4A football in that part of the state this year.

Good post BareRock! Proof that you can only play who is in your district and or on your schedule. P.S. Scrap the Litkenhouse Ratings!!!!!

One year out of about ten. Consider yourself lucky that you didn't have to play Male and St X in consecutive weeks and move on.

They did have to play Male and St. X in consecutive weeks.

Male played X, Manual, Prp, X, Rocks. And eight players go both ways.

Male had a great season. But lets clear up a few things. As it turned out X wasn't nearly as good as some thought they would be. Various reasons, check with your X friends. Manual was a scrappy young squad that fought hard but truthfully they weren't that good. PRP? Talk about hype meets reality. PRP was way over hyped. Male played a tough schedule but it didn't turn out to be the meat grinder that some predicted. 8 guys going both ways on a team with 75 plus soph, juniors and seniors? Whose call is that? Probably the same guy that thought up that D that allowed the Rocks to score easy TDs and get back into the game down 11 with 6 minutes to go.

H, from an historical perspective Trinity has played many teams back to back to back that were the best of thier district or region in the state to become the state champs. I suggest that you and all the other West lovers look at the past thirty plus years and then tell me that Trinity had it easy. If resent history shows anything it is that T has taken on the best from the West and Won.

Don't you mean the same guy who runs cover 0 every play?

Thats a myth. He played some cover two in the game. He also played some cover two in the 02 game. It actually slowed down the pass but opened up the run. I just think if the Dawgs were in cover two more in the second half Trinity would have run out of time rather than the Dawgs. JMO.

Not having Male or X on their side of the bracket is a significant factor in the Rocks' post-season success. They are still an extremely well-coached team with fantastic fan support and great tradition, but you can't cruise when you play X or Male like you can when you play a typical playoff team from NKy or Lexington. If you accept the idea that there is a Big 3 and that X, T, and H are far and away the best 4A schools year in/year out (the win/loss shows this overwhelmingly and I think most people agree), you have to agree that your probability of losing a game in the playoffs will be higher if you have to play two of the Big 3 to win it all than if you just have to play one. Simple probability multiplication. I would have loved it if the new 6A playoff format had X and T on the same side of semistate and Male on the other, but alas the Rocks continue to get this subtle gift of favorable playoff bracketing in their favor.

I agree. Not playing 2 deep safeties when up 11 points late was a critical mistake on Redman's part.

True, but they were still a dangerous team in the playoffs and demanded full preparation. I would argue that even this underachieving St X squad would pose more of a threat to Trinity than any other team in the playoffs, except possibly Male (and I say 'possibly' because X's defense is more sound).
