  1. They need to find a way to serve the chili and long necks intravenously!
  2. Ninety plus freshman would lead one to think that there has to be something left in the coffers after Beaumont & Co. leave. That is what has made Male the consistant contender they are, just when everyone is glad to see Barclay and Bush leave there is an Anderson, Brown, Beaumont, Williams, etc, etc, etc. stepping in to fill the shoes. I know I saw at least 3 kids playing offense versus New Albany that had me scratching my head saying, "where the heck did that kid come from?"
  3. What did you not understand about my post OX? Did I ever once say that I felt Manual deserved that preseason #5 Ranking? I don't believe I did. I just think alot of people worry about those rankings more than they should.
  4. I do not believe ANYONE at Manual would lose any sleep if they did drop out of the top 5 (or top 10). What the heck does it matter after the first week? If anyone wants to be ranked that high in a preseason poll a year after graduating 30+ seniors, keep competing with the best teams possible and you may experience the same respect. Is it warranted? Probably not at this point in time. But what the heck is the big deal? Most people (in the sporting community) could care less what the C-J says or what the AP poll says until December. I hope they drop us out of the top twenty so some of you can finally get some sleep and stop worrying about Manual. By the way, that Brentwood Academy team would beat alot of top teams in our area. Believe it or not!
  5. After how many cold ones? "Katy-Korner" to Check's?
  6. Thanks for that perspective rollredroll. I had hoped for an angle from someone on that side of the border with knowledge on the football situation in Tennessee. Not just the normal biased responses we ALWAYS get here. I expect next someone will question the strength of TN football due to the recent history in the KY-TN all star game. Then maybe you might also be able to shed some light on other Interstate games played with TN-GA and where most of the elite TN players opt to play their All-Star games.
  7. I would agree with this, especially after seeing them first hand. There is not another team in this area that could match the size, strngth and speed that Brentwood showed last night. In no way am I "knocking" any team in this city, just expressing what I saw on the field last night. That O-Line and D-Line was very impressive with their size and mobility. (Not to mention how fundamentally sound they were). Their skill postiton players were also impressive, a very nice D-1 running back with combination of size, strength and speed. Several other D-1 commits already to the likes of Auburn. The coach (Flatt) is the winningest coach in Tennessee HS football for a reason, so "don't kid yourself" he must know a thing or two about what he is doing. (Regardless of whether he has to play "the real Catholic" schools and the Males or not). Fortunately for a young team, what Manual needs to do now is get better week to week and hopefully not sustain the injuries that would force even younger players into the lineup. On defense there were, at times, 2 sophomores and a freshman in the game (first half, not after the score was out of reach). On offense, of course the QB is a sophomore as was the FB, and Center. Not alot of Varsity experience on the field for a first game against such a formidable opponent. Still the QB tossed some nice passes with a couple being uncaught behind the BA defense. There were enough positives to build on for a young team. I would not be surprised to see this young group bounce back in a couple tough games later in the season due to this experience!
  8. I'll second that opinion. Anybody have bird cages or litter boxes that need to be lined? I have found that to be a very good use for our "SPORTS?" Section!
  9. Looks real consistent to me! The only difference in NC and JH is that JH has North Hardin, Central Hardin to split the county. Nelson loses the city kids to Bardstown. Population of Hardin County is greater than Nelson County though.
  10. Like the Scribe says, the foundation is built and with similar population boon as with Nelson County, JH will be a solid program. Can someone provide season records around the time NC won the state title and the few years before and after to JH?
  11. My opinion will probably cause a little negative feedback and I want to start by saying I am not trying to bash. I think that in the first few years of John Hardin's existence, the early "lumps" paid and off some lumps were delivered in return. The talent that had mostly gone to North Hardin was now being split among the two schools and some of the 8th and 9th graders were now seniors that had been in the program for 3-4 years. Seasoned players! Years like this come around only so often and it is my hope that they will continue to be very competitive. I hope that if there is a stumble and they do not meet the new expectations that the fans will remain patient. The area (Hardin Co./North E-Town) is ever growing and a very nice place to attract many new families and the existing families to stay put. In my honest opinion, I think that JH will be slightly down from this past season but will still give someone fits in first round of playoffs. With the new alignment/format I have to figure that alone should pave a slightly easier path in the playoffs.
  12. Manual scrimmages Ballard then Lincoln County.
  13. First five, last five. Geez! Neither part looks that easy for either team!
  14. Both are really tough. No offense was taken , just kidding with the post. Anyway we better get back on topic!
  15. Peprock, you know where a post like that is going to get you? Anyway, Manual searched the state over for a suitable replacement to fill the spot that Shawnee stepped in for last season. Not very many consider playing much less making a two year commitment would mean playing Male next season. I believe that Brentwood Academy is only committed to this year's Bowl appearance. ram2003 - The numbers look good at this point with a few younger players stepping up nicely. Should be interesting toward the middle part of the season to see how much the younger guys can improve. Looking at the schedule we know we will need to see ALOT of improvement to have a chance of making the playoffs. For xtiger69 - after the first part of that schedule, don't you think we deserve a bye? I don't care who the upcoming opponent should be. I really don't think that St. X played as much into it as you might want to project! :flame:
  16. duPont Manual High School 8/19 Brentwood Academy(TN)-Old Rivalry Bowl at Male 8/26 at Eastern 9/1 at Trinity 9/8 Warren Central 9/15 Meade County 9/22 Open 9/29 St. Xavier 10/6 at Butler 10/13 Pleasure Ridge Park 10/20 at Iroquois 10/27 at Male How is that for a schedule? A Tennessee Powerhouse followed closely by 3 of Kentucky's finest 4A powers and then....we get a shot at the playoffs!
  17. Great game summary, I could visualize the things happening as you stated. The "unnofficial" stats show that the game was VERY evenly played and the 2 INTS for TN should have given the KY boys a chance to win. Any ideas on the fumble comparison? Thanks!
  18. That is quite true but we all know that if a child/parent want to attend that school badly enough, they can get around the "quota". They just have to find the right lawyer.
  19. Once again I will say, post your schedule and the teams you played to get that very impressive playoff record. By the way, going into that game versus PLD in 2004 there was much talk about how Manual would have their rears handed to them. Did you not have a returning stud running back that year? What were the stats and results of that game? That must have been a very heartbreaking loss for you pldgreatno2 to be spouting so much hatred at Manual. Maybe you too were one on the field chanting during pregame in confident anticipation of beating the hated team from Louisville. Overall this is ridiculous banter because you keep coming back with less than impressive answers and stats that do not mean diddly and after being shot down as many times as Snoopy you might just run off and play with another thread.
  20. McBroom was on the team last year for sure, I saw them play at Campbellsvillelast season. Watched him in warmups but never saw him hit the field. Cannot imagine him not being on the field as a slot or deep man on kickoffs and punts.
  21. By the way pldgreatno2, just explain to everyone how open enrollment works. You also seem possess all the great knowledge of this. Open enrollment means that every child has the opportuniy to attend the school of their choice. While this sounds like a bad thing, it actually offers alot more opportunity to kids throughout the county. As this may sound like a good opportunity to corrale kids to build powerhouse teams, it is quite the contrary. You will not see the test scores at Manual drop due to getting an athlete into school, the administration gains too much federal money by maintaing and actually improving test scores every year. So in between labs and science fairs Manual football will attempt to get these kids on the football field to devise ways to beat everyone ALL the time. We may be the smallest, weakest, slowest football team in the world but these kids are smart enough to find ways (conventional and unconventional) to pull out an occasional win every year or so. Seriously, the posturing and positioning for gaining a kids interst in your school is helped by a competitive sports program. Alot of schools offer competitive teams, some are higher profile than others but there are only so many to go around and we all lose kids we would all love to have. There are many playing for lower profile schools such as the McDermottt kid from Holy Cross last year, he could have been a major player for any 4A school as is the case with Justin Collins at Western HS and Corey Goodson at Western the previous year. There are many more and I am stating this because I can hear the claim already that the rich (Male/Manual/St.X/Trinity) get richer and the poor get poorer. There are 20+ schools in Jefferson county playing football and these kids spread out all over the place. It is not open season to go plucking these kids up and automatically adding them to your roster. This actually allows some of the smaller schools opportunities to attract some players that do not want to be a small fish in a big pond. Not everyone can endure the struggle to make it through 120+ incoming freshmen at the big private schools or the 35-50 incoming freshmen at some of the big public schools.
  22. That year Trinity DID start off the season 0-4, ANYBODY have a clue how they ended the season? PLD must not! You say," who didn't beat them?" Evidently there were about 11 others that lost to them after Seneca beat them and made them 0-4. You also seem to be a football genius since you can state the obvious about what these teams run offensively. When are you going to get a head coaching job and show everybody how to beat these teams. You seem to possess a secret alot of people would love to be privy to. Post your schedule and results for the past 2-3 years and let us compare. Then maybe you have some basis for your bashing of a team that consistently plays the best in the state and does quite well. Will they ever get over the hump? Who knows but several years back those same teams were blowing Manual out on an annual basis. If there is ever another meeting between PLD and Manual (or any other "arrogant" Louisvlle school), the players and staff should direct their anger and efforts more to the field than the chanting profanities at the opponent in pregame. Good luck with the season in '06 and who knows, maybe we shall meet again (in a playoff game someday). We will definitely "try" to hold up our end of the deal by playing the Big 3 again. Tell us how we might help you work maybe just one of the Big 3 into your highly competitve schedule!
  23. My prediction if PLD played in district "like" R2D4...... 0 - 5! Plain and simple, and if you think that is a ludicrous claim, contact Male OR Manual for a shot at the Rivalry Bowl in two years. Prove us wrong! (Or Right!).
  24. I apologize for offending anyone with the prior post but my venom comes from the lack of sportsmanship showed by the PLD football team in our last meeting. (In Danville 2004). The team (and staff) stood in the end zone prior to kickoff and totally disrespected the players and program of Manual High School by chanting some things that I cannot repeat on this board. After the game, there was not a lot to get excited about and I guess that is the price you pay for going out into the state and representing the "Arrogant" people of Louisville in a Kickoff Classic. The people of Danville were very gracious and showed very good sportsmanship the previous year as well when they beat the "Arrogant" people from the "big City of Louisville". I find it amusing that you try to discount the arguments that programs in Louisville have while at the same time playing somewhat the same tune.
  25. pldgreatno2, when was the last time you guys even sniffed a run at the semis or state? YOU! need to get off the Lexington bandwagon (because you can't hold up your end of the bargain) and start playing like you "think" you play! YES! Dunbar changed coaches but to back out of a prearranged agreement is cowardice, whether it is MANUAL or MALE. Play the best if you even think you can walk among the best. You taLK ABOUT the Manual faithful hiding behind the "Big 3" but what exactly are you doing? We play the best in the REGION evry year and , YES! maybe we come up a little short. You need to TRY to walk the walk before even attempting to talk the talk. Your lack of knowledge of high school football in Kentucky shows every time you post here but you do a good job of inspiring some dialogue!:fight:
