Willie Taggart is a great coach and was a very special talent at QB for WKU. He should be great for KJ to learn from and KJ is a very intelligent, well mannered young man. He ought to be fine at WKU.

I know that EKU has various camps scheduled this year. You should be able to go online to look further.

I guess, from my personal experience there, that the kids probably would like the fact that someone labeled them "misfits." The teachers and administration on the other hand would probably resent that label.

I doubt that the mailbox at Atherton was full of applications waiting to be read. What exactly would a coaches' credentials have to be to get hired at Atherton? We have other coaches in the county AND state that have not always done things by the book and they are head coaches. My point is that if a coach of Russ Gibson's qualifications were to apply for the Atherton job, they would be really missing the boat if they did not entertain the opportunity. By the way, his record at Southern High School as well as Fern Creek High School was impressive enough to qualify him for most any job. That is if your question was truly about credentials as a coach.

I am glad someone finally stated this. We do not know all the circumstances that lead the powers in Fayette County to make the decision. Obviously, there was enough evidence to draw the penalties that were imposed on LexCath by the KHSAA. But, Dunbar cannot be blamed for not playing LC if the district has mandated that they do not. I also agree that if they play MBA that there probably are not too many players in Dunbar's district that are being lured to play at MBA. Not a lot of conflict there. Maybe, just maybe there is a little more to the situation in Fayette County than Public vs. Private. :sssh:

On Nelson County, I surely hope that the parents could step up and tell the administration what they think about the situation. The SUPER needs to hire the "mumblers and grumblers" that led to the Mason firing. They obviously "know how to coach a championship football team." Can there be any more ineptitude at a leadership position as the SUPER has shown these past few months? The kids at Nelson County do deserve better than this from the "so called" leadership. The situation at Iroquois is very fragile year to year as someone already stated about overall numbers, injuries, AND eligibility! The school never has lacked talent, maybe discipline at various times but never talent and heart. Coach Schneider(?) had very solid groundwork laid before leaving a couple years ago. His teams were disiplined and seemed to have more organization than previous years. Size and talent were present during his short tenure. If the talent gets some help from the big guys up front, then a lot of positive things can happen. Just because somebody decides they have a few key elements to run Redman's offense does not make it happen on game night. I honestly hope they pull it together. The coach is a great guy and those kids have a lot of heart and class. I heard that PRP is most definitely the team to watch for next season. Sounds like they have gotten bigger and stronger this off season AND picked up a couple big name players that DID NOT play last season. Should be another "wild & hairy" district battle, :fight: AGAIN!

I do not see how anyone can look at a picture from this angle and determine where the BALL was at the time his forward progress stopped and or his knee came in contact with the ground. Regardless, I cannot believe I read and posted a response to this thread.

Do not necessarily think Beaumont needs any more help than he already has in that regard. Overall and Williams should pose enough of a threat elsewhere to keep defenses from focusing solely on Beaumont. I also thought the asthma would prevent Anderson from playing alot more than what he does already. Is this not really true? Regardless, Victor only seems to need a few carries per game to bust out a hundred yards so a few extra carries a game should only help. Even knowing Victor will carry the ball, your D has to go through a BIG O-Line to get to him. Just face it, X has all the tools! :laugh:

Have not seen too many anywhere that can do what Beaumont dioes each week on Offense, Defense AND Special Teams. He made some pretty physical stops on defense this year on many films I got to see in preparing to play Male. As someone else stated, you know he is their main go to guy (usually 2-3 more as well) and he still breaks for big yardage. Victor Anderson is very good in his own right and should provide enough offense to stake a legitimate claim to Mr. Football.

I am sure that most everyone on BGP has, at many times, scratched their heads in amazment at the recruiting (lack of recruiting) process that goes on here locally. MANY in state players left out to dry and fend for themselves. Many would be shocked at the amount of interest shown to some of the top recruits by our local universities. I think UK does a better job of showing interest in the local talent and good old WKU seems to benefit from the lack of interest shown by UofL. I talked with a former coach yesterday that told me his son ( a well known senior ) is getting very little interest from the D1 schools. This is not a shock as this has been going on for years. A product of Kentucky being known as a "basketball" state. A few big years when there were many talented seniors ready to go to college and still not much action from local schools to recruit them. Nothing bothers me more when you see our local universities signing 2nd, 3rd, & 4th best prospects from Florida, Georgia, UTAH(?) when a blue chipper in state goes to IU or Michigan or NC State. I know a lot of people will respond that the 3rd, 4th best players in FL and GA are that much better but that is yet to be proven. Also, why do we offer these troubled recruits chance after chance and a good kid never even gets one shot. There used to be a time when a recruiter actually asked, "what kind of kid is this recruit?' " Is this kid coachable, dedicated, and a hard worker?" "If I had a daughter would this kid be the kind of person I would let her date?" This is the time of year I think about these things, the fall football season is when I start thinling about the local talent playing out of state.

This depends on what you consider a "scholarship" versus "field scolarships/performance scholarships". While the NAIA teams do offer financial assistance in the form of performance scholarships, they do not offer full ride scholarships. There is the difference. Some of the schools with more resources tend to find the ways to add a little grant here and there to help make up the difference between what the school and athletic program offers and what the student pays. I have coached some of the kids currently playing at KWC and the money that the incoming recruits are being offered is different than what they were offered as top recruits. The transition will be have an impact an those players that are able to maintain their "performance scholarshps" and remain a member of the team. I also have a son playing at another NAIA school now. He received what was considered the most they could offer as a "performance scholarship" and it was about 1/2 of full tuition. Of course there were a couple grants (not loans) and other scholarships here and there to greatly reduce the out of pocket. I can see arguments both ways but I will say that as a DII player I played against some DII and DIII. Seemed like NAIA leaned a little more to DIII in competition at the time as well.

If the trip to Louisville is not TOO long you should look into playing a full season with an amateur (minor-professional) team. 12+ games per season. If interested PM me and I can forward details. Very competitive at this level, played against a lot of recognizable college players from Michigan, Michigan State, Bowling Green, Toledo, Ball Sate, and other schools in the Mid East/ Mid West region. Small college atmosphere and level on the field.

My point is they cannot compete consistently with Georgetown, Pikeville, and other NAIA powers, they will need more talent to be anywhere close in the move to NCAA DII as the competition is more like G-Town, Pikeville every week. In my opinion NAIA as a whole is more like NCAA DIII. Been around both levels and seen many games first hand to base my opinion of this.

Satori was there for 5 seasons, started off with a good group of seniors with alot of promise. Season did not go as well as expected, probably should have won 5-6 games that year against a schedule with Iroquois, Waggener, Bullitt East, North Bullitt, Breckenridge County, Central, Henry County to name a few. Numbers were decent to start but dwindled after the first loss and grades affected others later in the season, a few injuries and so on. Regardless, when the kids do come out, they very seldom are the experienced variety. The mentality of that area where the kids are exposed to some very liberal aspects of competitive (?) athletics is differnet to say the least. There is HYR (Highland Youth Recreation) that runs a non- competitive youth organization. A whole lot of kids involved, they do not keep score and focus a lot of attention to not dwell on "beating" another team but focus on being involved in a "nobody loses" concept. Good idea for 4-5 year olds, maybe the older kids should start thinking about winning a little more. There are actual clubs in the school focused on alternative lifestyles and other questionable clubs that probably should be left outside the confines of a public learning facility. IMHO. Again, I have seen the attitude first hand, it is not an environment that is conducive to winning. Satori spent a lot of time and energy in his first year creating a weight room in the basement of the school, a pretty nice weight room, and improving the locker room. Had a lot of nice things going on but again, until the kids start believing they have a chance to succeed, they have a "we can't win" attitude. A lot of things that are not working in favor of the program over there. Could be a good start for a coach or carreer suicide, I honestly think Satori left at the right time and will be coaching somewhere this year as an assistant or even possibly HC.

Coach Satori actually tried at one time to work a non district schedule but could not work it out. A move to 3A was not as easy as one might think with Central, Bullitt East, Waggener, and others that are consistently strong and could compete with 4A. The administration needs to show a little interest in improving the situation before it can get better. Could be a bad career move unitl the administration decides that football can be better at Atherton. Facilities (Stadium) is not bad, practice fields are plentiful and the overall campus at Atherton is beautiful, college-like. More interest in the school in skateboarding and partying, they also have alot of foreign students and soccer players. A few more wins consistently would help recruit students already in the school to come out for the team. Coach Satori did as good as one could considering the climate AND attitude in the school.

I will have to say that I have seen some very devastating injuries at flag football games. I have seen some pretty ugly things in softball as well. I can;t say that I have seen anything much more severe or frequent in semi pro football. All this depends alot on the conditioning and the level of commitment of the athletes. Not trying to talk anyone into playing just my two cents.

The jump to DII is not going to be that easy. I look for the building process to take 3-4 years. If lucky, maybe a few transfers could get them there a little faster. The competition is a pretty significant step up. Coach Holsclaw does a good job recruiting but it may have been easier if he could have started recruiting for the move up a year in advance. A little shuffling of NAIA talent to make room for scholarship players in NCAA D-II is probably in the cards.

I have experienced playing Minor professional/semi pro ball and have experience coaching as well at that level. There are plenty of negative connotations that go along with semi pro anything. Truth of the matter is that you do get a lot of passionate players that play very hard at this level. Can it compete with professional ball? No! Does that matter? NO! There are very few organizations that can offer a level of competition that is satisfying enough to attract major college level players and retain them over the course of a few seasons. That being said the competition and camaraderie seen at this level is unimaginable. I would not suggest that "alumni" teams try to play too many existing semi pro teams. (Believe it or not, I have been on the field against Major Harris, Ricky Powers, Jack Walker, and many other professional players that sill strap it on for semi pro teams.) Simply, a good idea if there is enough interest in the area. Let us know if you get something going or PM me and I might be able to add little insight.
