I am sure this thread started as something other than what I am now posting. I will make this my final post in this thread on this topic. We both know how the mind works and also the enticement of such thimgs as the Championship Rings as well as the thought of "scholarships" in high school adds a little "eliteness" to being pursued by high schools. I know all too well how parents react to their kids being acknowledged by X and T. It is a whole different animal, a beast if you will that has gotten to the point currently that has brought adverse reactions by the others. The parents of some of the kids that never thought they could or would send their children to a catholic-private school look at it as if they are special. They should feel this way as not EVERYBODY gets this opportunity. Thus, the enticement is there and not only because the programs,traditions,facilities. Look at Millersburg Military School in the C-J this past week, attracting students from all around to start playing basketball a-la Oak Hill Academy. There is no recent success in basketball or much anything alse for that matter. Formerly just a school parents sent their unruly children that needed regimented programs for more discipline. Tuition I believe neared $20,000.00 per year. Anyway, they will get players attracted there because they will help with tuition and offer them an elite basketball dream. Just an anology, I know that T and X suffered through many years of growing pains before enjoying the successes they enjoy now.

Sorry to have offended you. My wish is for anyone that wants to walk the halls at your school be able to do so, not to be sought out because of abilities that are not being displayed in the classroom. We would not be having this discussion if this were the case, NOBODY would give a second thought to tuition and assistance given for tuition if this were the case. My opinion and again I'll apologize for the mean spiritedness.

Congratulations! On the tuition, living in Jefferson County AND the sparkles. You probably did not want anything else for Christmas. Anyway, just kidding about the billion dollar tuition, that has to be tough enough already, I have a son that started college last year and he does not have a full scholarchip. I pay less for his portion of tuition than X or T parents pay for their kids HS tuition. I also have onother son that will go to college this coming fall as well, OUCH! I feel the pain. Maybe next year I can get some sparkle. :laugh: That might ease the pain a little.

Could not resist since you set the tone. Some wonder why there is an us against them mentality but just reread your post. I am sure it is in jest but after a lot of turning the other cheek, it still is old. I will get blasted for the post but I really wonder if some really understand the effects of the non-stop gloating. I wonder if some of the trite and petty criticisms you have posted (in fun) would be so eaily accepted amongst the T or X faithful. Somehow I doubt it. So here it goes - For X and T - MAY tuition rise to a point where student/athletes would be required to pay their tuitions with no help from an outside tuition assistance fund that is administered by an outside entity or any entity. May they also be required to only field a team that has players from 2-3 counties and Kentucky residents. Let the fun begin! :banana:

I could not see trying to coach a team of this sort and not choosing the absolute best players at any position. Not all players are available to play this game for varying reasons. I saw the game last year and the OL for Tennessee was by far the weaker of O-lines. That may have been because Earl Heyman made most of them look that way. Big and SLOOOOOW! Anyway, I have been involved in all-star games at various levels and let me tell you, the linemen in general are the ones that suffer most when playing games of this nature. Many of these guys may be lifting but I bet that few have been conditioning at that point in the summer. (At least to the extent of playing a game in the middle of summer after being off the field since the previous fall) Combine that with playing in a new scheme for most and you have an obvious problem. I also noticed that linemen tend to be the ones that have the most need for fundamental work as well. Not bashing the big guys, I also played some O-line, just saying that you probably have a few of the OL that still take false steps, hit with the wrong shoulder, duck their heads, leave their feet, stop moving their feet, etc, etc. I do agree that the OL played better in the second half of that game.

That is a pretty good drop for Bullitt East, what do they have coming back? I thought they were still a young team and not too senior heavy in '05.

How is the coach showing "cowardess"? (cowardice/cowardliness) In supporting something he believes is best for his school and team for whatever reason? Isn't that what everyone is claiming to do on both sides of this issue? Besides I do not think that this is the thread topic!

Although I have similar sentiments towards these "all everything" teams, regardless of how it is done, everyone will never be pleased. Yes, Wes Brown is D-1 material with combination size and speed very easily could be considered for 1st or 2nd team. Rico Neal (Central) and Tim Horton (Manual) are hard to see as Honorable Mention but some mention/recognition is better than none at all. As is the case EVERY season there will be all the "what-abouts?" for as long as anyone wants to keep a thread going. Congratulations to the members of this All State team and any other all-area or state teams out there as well!

Agree with a couple posters on Mark Higgs (RB) Owenboro Red Devils (UK-Miami Dolphins), a terror in high school. Watched many games in Owensboro where he was unstoppable. A little Barry Sanders. How many years did Dennis Johnson play varsity ball at Harrodsburg? Joe Jacoby played at Western High School in Louisville. I remember watching a game between Iroquois at Manual in 78-79(?) where it was a classic slugfest between two great backs. Chuck Coleman for Iroquois (Tennessee) and Rodney Francis for Manual (UK) what a game! Motquantae Gibson is at Younstown State after leaving UK. Will Wolford was a beast for St. X. Preston Gray (WR) Manual then Michigan State, Kodak & Playboy All-American in 1982. Aaron Payne (RB) - Holy Cross HS - Ohio State. Tony Lnaham (QB) for Southern High School to Curtis Jefferies (WR) for Southern, that was almost automatic in "83. Not some of the most noted names statewide but I I'll always remember seeing some of these people up close.

I believe that a stiff penalty is due, this IS extreme though. I did want to know if anybody questioned why the chain crew was comprised of students and why the home team was on that side with the chains. Were two sets of chains being used? Not that this matters, just curious. I do believe when such stiff penalties start to get levied on other major infractions, like illegal recruiting, grade tampering, etc. then maybe some of the OTHER problems that plague sports may be remedied. Also, the media should be on more of this type of action and penalty. I think alot of people from parents-players-coaches-boosters could stand a little refresher course in why sports are supposed to be a positive influence on you people. Discipline! Leadership! Sportsmanship! Hard Work! Teamwork! etc, etc, some things that seem to have taken a back seat to other priorities.

Other than David Jones how many others have played or are playing D-1 football? Any go on to professional careers? I am not familiar with the names other than Jones and am curious?

I may be missing something here, is this what the super said or what you are suggesting?

I would like to see some posts from people in other states on some of these issues. I think Title IX has something to do with your gate receipts not going entirely to the football program. I would like to know how programs in some other states handle shortcomings in their budgets. The philosophies that HS sports are operated by in this state are not conducive to developing programs and student athletes. I think it is a shame that the people we have that actually deal with our children the most each and every day are the lowest paid. We also expect these teachers and coaches to do the best job possible with the minimum resources.It is a sad state of affairs statewide. I would be interested to see budgets of some individual departments within the BOE. We can hear how much we are doing this and that for the kids but I find that hard to see actually happening in the public school systems, maybe too much bureaucracy and fat higher up. Forget the field turf and all the ammenities, let's get transportation and funds for proper equipment to some of these kids who are playing sports with less than proper tools and equipment.

Looks like the freshman QB will have a good look. There are two others that played JV, one will be returning as a senior but was really limited this year due to some injuries. Looks to be a wide open race.

I am interested in seeing a reply from someone in the Tiger camp. Personnally, looking at this from an outsider's perspective, St. X does not put a lot of D-! players on scholarship out each year. I can recall Dan Bick in recent years and a few preferred walk ons. Not to say that they do not have D-1 prospects, with their success this is unusual. Having the experienced players that go into their program every year, they tend to know what their roles will be. I can see where they may not have all the inflated egos and parental (my son is the greatest) attitudes that tend to distract some of the more "talented?" teams. I will take a coachable "Jimmy or Joe" (with supportive parents) over a group of all world players any day.

Manual lost to Trinity on a last minute 72 yard TD pass and to St.X (twice 17-7 and 33-18). Also lost to Male (FG with 6 sec. 31-28) and Warren Central (42-35 last minute TD pass). Every loss to a team that went at least to second round of playoffs. I know the thread is "to state champ and runner up" but this is a tough schedule and a terrible way to lose tough games. No solace in looking at the strength of schedule and no such thing as a moral victory. The tough games will prepare the younger players for the future when the taste of victory will be hard to suppress.

Some big boys? Bigger kids coming? Coaches with an All-Pro NFL background? Just like you need all the extra edges :flame: .

Many said similar things about Chris Barclay and he did just fine at RB for Wake Forest. The right fit will provide him opportunity to play in particular situations until he bulks up and proves durability. Not real sure about his his pass catching abilities downfield at WR in D-1 setting. Barclay had uncanny skills, speed and the ability to start, stop and make cuts in a millisecond. I think in the next year Victor may be able to improve some of the few areas that he is lacking in now. (Blocking and pass receiving primarily) Should get plenty of offers to stayat RB at many D-1 schools, the ball is in his hands. Not too many Defensive Coordinators will miss him when he graduates.
