That may be easier said than done. How many schools exist in Harlan County? You are talking about the issues in you small corner of the world. There is alot more diversity in Jefferson Ciounty than most people outside of the county can even imagine. I am not ignorant to the fact that there is also diversity in all other counties as well. There are 20+ high schools alone in Jefferson County. Some of these schools offer auto mechanics, aviation, service industry, retail marketing training, etc. Do they all meet the same academic standards? No! There are always going to be schools that score higher in statewide testing than others and rank higher nationally than others. Am I to believe that it is because of the teachers? I believe it is because they are allowed to select the students that best fit the schools' curriculum and have the highest chance to succeeed in such an atmosphere. On the flip side of your coin, is it fair for a higher achieving student to be held back because of a student who cannot keep up or does not want to keep up is in the same class?

I may be wrong (NOT) but money plays NO part in who gets into Manual OR Male High Schools. The fact remains that parents who are active in their childrens' choice for which high school to attend would have no problem chosing Manual and/or Male over Shawnee or Western. That is unless they want their child to get a step up in the aviation or food service industry. For the most part I read the posts by most of the uninformed on this site. I, at times have been an uninformed poster as well. But my concern is... where does the solicitaion end? Insert whatever word you please but a school in central Kentucky is not likely to have questions raised about a student/athlete from Tennessee, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, or Missouri. After years of accepting the fact that a public/private school is admitting a student from a neighboring county or state when will it be acceptable to start accepting student/athletes from other states, countries, etc. It may sound far fetched but that is what made schools like Oak Hill Academy a household name. "All in the name of paying the bills" , as some private supporters may say. Where will it end? As I stated long ago, offer the same privileges to the outstanding tuba player for the band or the tennis player or the biology student. I am tired of seeing the issues pushed aside and other distracting arguments made. The school districts like Nelson County/Bardstown would be hard pressed to "sneak" a kid in from Bullitt County or Washington County. It would not be as easy as say a school in Fayette or Jefferson County could with a neighboring county. I think we can all agree that a potential student that is not from with in the Jefferson County lines can attend a public school if they are able to pay what amounts to tuition in the area of $ 4200.00 per school year (if there is an opening). If that family feels that strongly about doing this then what would be the issue? I would be willing to bet that a student that takes this avenue to attend Manual or Male would not be doing so to play a sport. For the same token, what is wrong with a family wanting their child to attend a private school? Even if that child attended a public school for the previous 3,4,5,6 years? NOTHING! I think the schools should be able to "Showcase" what they can offer the "Students" as a "recruiting" tool in open forums for educational purposes only. The Showcase of Schools allows them to do this. When we start seeing coaches and alumnus attending youth league games and talking about the athletics, I think that is where the "Athletic Recruiting" gets out of control. I am also tired of hearing the comparisons with football and basketball, THERE IS NO COMPARISON! Period! You Do Not Need the same enrollment numbers to field a team of 12-15 varsity basketball players as you need to field a team of varsity football players. That is why the football classifications started. There was atime when the Jefferson County schools were all class 4A. Enrollment numbers dropped at schools and the obvious happened, they could not compete. I can say that I do not hold all schools accountable for what some of the other schools do. I thought it was a joke when the KHSAA disciplined a local coach for some of the same things that all schools did on a regular basis. It was a witch hunt, a scapegoat was found, made an example of (because the governing body was not willing to address the real problem) and a coach was forced out. I am sure a lot of people will say, "this happened" and "that happened" but the bottom line is a small fish was caught and used as an example for what a lot of big fish had also done. (No bias because I know this applies to more than one side.) Think about the real issues, be honest with yourself, and ask, "do we really care if this child comes to our school for His/Her education or are we more interested in how this student/athlete can help us become a better team on friday night?"

Where were you at earlier BIGZIG? I would have liked to see this post directly after the start of the thread. Five pages of name dropping, name calling, stat posting, and nothing changes. The KHSAA made a decision, that like most others is ridiculous and shows how out-of-touch the organization is. This is like fixing the broken down truck with baling wire and tape, patching the hole in the Titanic with rags and bubble gum. Some will like it and some will hate it. Maybe the resolution to more of the problems would be made easier if we fix the the problems by starting at the source.

:mad: This blows my mind. Be passionate about your players but PLEASE try to show some class and leave the player bashing out of it! It is not Garnett Phelps' fault he is on the team and Senn is not. In my opinion, Phelps deserves to be there. I also believe that Senn could be on the roster as well. These lists always bring out the worst in people when all their favorite players are not included. Please remember these young men work hard for opportunities like these so try do not toss names around like this!

This has to be about as tough as one can get. Manual scrimmages against Ballard and Lincoln County then opens the season with Brentwood Academy (TN) - Old Rivalry Bowl Eastern Trinity Warren Central Meade County ST.X PRP Butler Iroquois Male I don't think it matters which are home and which are away, still a "killer" schedule.

There seems to be alot of people denying reality on alot of issues.

What are trying to get at? Of course this "personal training" costs someone some good money. The same trainers that train Trinity kids and X kids and Male kids and Manual kids probably train Anderson as well. This is nothing new since baseball players have been doing this for a long time locally. I am disappointed, that as physically demanding a sport as football is, that it has taken so long to buy into the off season strength and speed training. All the private lessons and camps that are available year round to a sport like baseball statistics prove that kids who are able to afford all the extra training and coaching come out ahead. This will pay off big this season but even bigger when he goes to play at WVU.

I kind of wondered this myself. Being at the KFEC you can count on paying for parking.:mad: Other than that you should be able to come watch. Years past at Ballard there were parents and other people their to watch. I would expect the arrangement this year to be more accommodating for more spectators.

What is the issue with this? There are costs involved and time is worth something to many people these days. There are many coaches in attendance every year. For all the kid who "have no chance to play at the next level", there are the ones that would not be getting any interest from schools if not for a combine like this. I have a bigger concern with the "camps" and scouting services that charge a much larger amount of money for the kids to be looked at by virtually no one in a position to offer the kids any opportunity. I would suggest that any kid that has played (gotten on the field) for their high school, pay the reasonable fee to have the experience of being tested and compared to some of those receiving attention already.

You must not know what you are talking about. I am in no way affiliated with anyone that runs this combine and I will tell you that there is no other time that you can see that many college coaches present at any one function for high school players. The cost for the players is MINIMAL and the results are actually compiled for the players that have not been noticed yet to have available to college scouts. This season the people at Middletown's Metro Fitness have offered to put the combine on. These people deal with speed training as well as strength training. Are they college talent scouts? NO! Do they stand to gain somewhat from providing this service? Probably. I would venture to say that the combine being set at the Old Cardinal Stadium can make this a step toward bigger and better things in the future. The seniors to be will be in (a former) college facility performing for college scouts and a shot at their future in a college program. My hat is off to Coach Mark Catlett and all involved in the combine being produced this way. If it does not work out as well then hopefully we can improve and make things that much better in years to come. You will not see these scouts rubbing elbows with players but you will notice a few talking to the coaches of some of the players that shine. What better could these kids ask for? I only wish this type of service would have been provided while I was preparing for my senior season.

Typical offseason question marks that seem to almost always get answered when one of the many players that wait in the wings finally gets a chance to step up and show what they can do and there will be a "diamond in the rough" that comes to shine. Was that a run on sentence? This is the reason the Ts and Xs will continue the consistent winning ways. They have loaded the coffers with numbers of quality players and through the system develop those players to step up and fill roles when the times come.

Do not know whether this is a one year deal or a two year commitment yet. I know several local (in State) powers were approached and all declined due to prior commitments and "other" reasons. I for one am glad to see a high caliber team come in to replace Shawnee. No knock on Shawnee since they have improved tremendously (under Ken Walker, before he left) in the past few years. The numbers just do not play favorably for any team in the same boat as Shawnee. I understand that they will again play Atherton on opening weekend now. The coach at Brentwood Academy is the winningest coach in Tennesse and has spent many years at BA. Should be a very good test for a young team of Rams!

I saw and talked to Jelly and Justin last thursday night. He looks fine and is running track. A very talented young man, has always played the game hard even as a peewee. If you have not seen him lately, he has grown! Looks to be about 5'10" to 5'11". I have known Coach Green for a long time and I believe the decision to let Justin play (after being cleared by doctors) was still thought through with only his best interests in mind. A young man that has been around the game of football for as long as he has and with it being such an important part of growing up, I would think the kid would not be happy not playing. Everybody that straps it on to play this game takes risks that are equal to his all the time. A lot of these players may have narrowing of the spinal cord, enlarged hearts, asthma and a list of other ailments that are undiagnosed that may cost a player their health and possibly more.

That kind of talk will get you banished from "Crimson Country" :laugh: Do not assume as you know what they say! Anyway, on the Rocks' schedule, It looks like a virtual cakewalk with one or two exceptions. Whether that was jab or not, that is all most backs get in any program. Very rare that a back is in the game for 4 plays consecutively. Quality is better than quantity these days, ask Reggie Bush how many times he played 3-4 plays in succession.

A lot of underclassmen got good experience last season. This is a good bunch of kids coming back, a lot of hard workers that seem to listen and get along with each other. Should be an interesting season after a pretty good winter and spring.

That is the guy, I heard he is very big now. Kind of got the impression that he was not going to be running the ball too much, maybe chasing it.:laugh: I also heard that the Vincent kid, also played RB and LB two years ago, is very strong and going to be a huge addition possibly on both sides of the ball. Of course all this is early speculation and we all know that a lot of things can and can not happen before the season starts.

He has 4-5 guys that did not play last season coming out this season. Some pretty big names that WILL make PRP a force in the district race this season. I hear that Ardis and Vincent both are back.

Now you are saying that they could beat DIII And NAIA Teamssssss ! You bring up a good point as you mention Adrian Peterson. While he was outstanding as a senior HS player, his entire team would have had to been equally as outstanding to keep the superstar fromm getting destroyed whenever he touched the football. Remember the injuries as a freshman and sophomore he endured because of those physical shortcomings, how about Clarett in his season at Ohio State and the injuries that kept him out of a few games? The amount of speed differences in all positions as well as physical maturity level would be the biggest of obstacles. My only scenario of IFs would be like I said earlier a senior laden team with several TOP DI prospects playing against an upstart program with ONLY true freshmen, no JUCO transfers or redshirts. I'm done with this argument.:creepy:
