LEXINGTON, Ky. - Don’t look for a Trinity-St. Xavier matchup in the state 4-A football finals — for the state’s largest schools — this fall.

Don’t look for all-Louisville final at all.

All I can say is I am shocked..

I was just about to post this. Wow is an understatement...

From the KHSAA....

The Board voted to address some changes to the postseason bracketing in football for the

2006 postseason and beyond. The first and second rounds contests will be held within the

same district with the No. 1 seed hosting the No. 4 seed and the No. 2 seed hosting the No.

3 seed in the first round, in an effort to address cost containment and travel issues

consistent with other sports. In the second round, the higher seed will host. In the third and

fourth round, the Board established a rotation plan where the district winners will play in an

alternating pattern for the third round, and then fourth round competition. The Board also

continued the review of the football alignment of teams. In preparation for the 2007 season,

the Board will review five- and six-class system options through its September meeting to

see if these systems are desirable compared to the current four-class system, and in the

event a five or six class option is approved, the Board will study allowing schools to “play up”

in class.

There is one thing I feel very strong about and that is the blind draw should be public.

We don't have all the details yet but this does NOT pass the smell test.

I don't like it at all. I see no positive, other than transportation costs, and I see quite a few negatives.

Come on now guru lets not get paranoid

What do you think is going to happen?

Wow...this is a shocker. It definetly opens the door for several nky 4a teams to maybe get to the state championship. But like it said in the article, this could make the state championship less attractive because the two best teams may not be meeting up in the final game.

How is this going to be any different than basketball and baseball? The best two teams don't always meet in the championship game in those sports. Look at recent Sweet 16 draws.

I'm surprised that the KHSAA would be in favor of this proposal if only from a pure financial standpoint.

Here are some negatives to hear:

1) Less reward for finishing well, particularly in tough districts. Especially R2D4 in 4A, most years.

2) Stale matchups. (Not to mention wounding regular season district play)

3) In 4A, for the immediate future, it certainly lowers the chances of the two most deserving teams meeting in the finals.

Those are the big ones, in my opinion. Not to mention that the travel costs are only defrayed in the first two rounds... after that, they actually will probably be worse for the teams that advance. Like when R1D1 eventually draws R4D8

The "non-Louisville" 4-A schools will like it! Especially those who have been matched up in their region. No one gets banned...no one gets kicked out. You still have to "beat'em all." Now the districts that have been opposite the Louisville 4-A districts just have to be better one time on one night to get to the show. This will change a lot of attitudes. There will be fewer people calling for the split. Good move KHSAA.

If that's the attitude, I would actually prefer a return to "Louisville against the State."
